Just started this game. I'm a bit confused about arming weapons.
When a weapon is highlighted, it seems to compare it to another weapon, but it's not necessarily a weapon that you already have armed? One is red and the other green, and it would appear to be obvious which is in better shape, but I haven't run into anything in the game that describes the colors and the stats.

If I'm remembering correctly, if you choose to compare weapons, it will compare your currently equipped weapon (I think you can hold a button for offhand weapon) to whichever other weapon is highlighted.
Grey weapons are common, blues are rare, and purples are unique. But that really only tells you how often you run into them. Occasionally there will be more than one unique weapon. Instead, look at the item level (and other stats) to see which is better. You can find a level 10 unique weapon, but it will be vastly outclassed by a level 18 common weapon.
Weapons with red text mean you lack a requirement to use them - usually class or level. Equipped weapons have a yellow/orange edge on their hexagonal icon, and if you hover over them, will say "Equipped by (character)".

The Red and Green text on the bonus effects mean you're losing or gaining in those.
Plus Crafted Weapons are Yellow.

There should be an "Equip" button on the screen. On PC, mine is on a row of actions at the bottom of the inventory screen.
