At this point, can you name a great recent game that DIDN'T have a terrible ending?

ME2's ending and boss battle was still better than ME3's ending

From a literary and writing perspective both suck, but I'd still argue ME3's ending is the most disasterous because it literally closes the trilogy story on what was almost complete nonsense and still is largely vague gibberish.

Spec Ops The Line. In the end you can't really forget the experiences you had, totally memorable. Stay like a bullet in my brain. Probably has one of the best endings ever. (2012)

Kinda older but New Vegas had good endings and you could alter them by your choices and actions.(2010)

Again kinda older but Heavy Rain has some nice endings which again tailored by your actions.(2010)

Also yeah i agree to The Walking Dead(2012) and The Last of Us(2013).

PS: Sorry but i liked ME 3 ending aswell.(2012)

Edit: To the Moon had a nice really emotional ending aswell.(2011)

I think RDR's ending was excellent. As Jack you take revenge for your family and in the process become entangled in the outlaw lifestyle that John never wanted for him. It fits the bleak narrative of the game very well.

Also Far Cry 3 had a good ending.

Spec Ops The Line. In the end you can't really forget the experiences you had, totally memorable. Stay like a bullet in my brain. Probably has one of the best endings ever. (2012)

Indeed.

All four endings are incredible.

Ha, I probably can't OP. Not from the triple A sphere at least.

Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation spring to mind from my recent stuff. They weren't terrible per se (okay, Mordor's end boss 'fight' was laughably bad), but suffer from obvious sequel baiting rather than choosing to just fully wrap up the game's story.

Luckily, both those games were also thoroughly enjoyable. So the lacklustre endings didn't matter all that much to me.

Journey (2012)

Transistor (2014)

Bloodborne (2015) -- although I may be in the minority on Bloodborne

Three good ones that haven't been mentioned yet. But yeah endings have been kind of meh. Portal 2 and The Walking Dead are probably my two favorite endings since Skyward Sword (2011).

Bastion (2012) had a good ending too.

But IDK I may have lower expectations than yall because I thought TW3 ending was decent and not bad. It had some pacing issues tho.

Yeah, the ending to Spec Ops was pretty haunting.

It's hard for me to remember games like New Vegas in these discussions when they have that many ending permutations, but the variety and versatility there is indeed great.

I'd also include the entire narrative/setting of Alice: Madness Returns, and the dark place that the ending takes it all.

I thought The Witcher 3 had good ending scenarios.

It just suffered from a really weak villain that only has 12 lines in the entire game.

Let's not forget about The Stanley Parable's broom closet ending. That one's my favorite.

Great/good endings?

Witcher 2&3

All Bioshock games.

Fallout: New Vegas

Far Cry 3

Dishonored

Plenty of games have good endings.

I completely disagree with Witcher 3 having a bad ending - it explains what it should explain, finalizes Geralt's story, finalizes Ciri's story and shows political repercussions.

The rest is explained during in game Geralt's animated monologues.

Don't think ME2's ending was that bad.

I mean, yeah, the Reaper was silly.

But jeez is that Suicide Mission one of the best things BioWare has ever done.

I haven't played it yet, but I heard about that ;)

I'd generally say that it's mostly BioWare, that recently has problems with endings. I was mostly satisfied with endings to major titles in the last couple of years, apart from Fallout 3 or Skyrim (which doesn't have an ending).

I really get the feeling this is more sort of a Modern BioWare  hate thread.

Grand Theft Auto V had a great ending, presuming you weren't a coward. Using the magic of friendship got the best damn ending of any of the GTA's, at least in my opinion. Saints Row IV was also great, from beginning to end, and had a solid ending that provided at least some level of closure. Metal Gear Rising in my opinion had a great ending, even with the tease they had at the end, the story wrapped itself in a neat little bow of closure.

In fact, most of the games people seem to take uber seriously and put on some kind of great pedestal seem to always fall. Meanwhile games that don't take themselves as seriously seem to be able to pull off the good endings and stories people like.

Which psyhco? The one who feels complete and total resentment of themselves and tries to bury down their guilt with materialistic possessions and surrounding themselves with a miserable life with the excuse that its supposed to be the dream? Or the one that doesn't want to follow the law but also doesn't want to be a criminal and thus ends up in an endless loop of dissatisfaction and self-aggrandizing?

Or did you mean Trevor? Because if you honestly look at things from a viewpoint that isn't insanely warped by societal norms and practices, Trevors honestly not only the least crazy of the three, but also the one who through the sheer ability of giving no fucks, does the most good.

After all, Micheal and Franklin don't go around killing massive meth dealing operations, international criminals, corrupt domestic security officers, crime bosses, or organized gangs. And they got no problem working for the same folks who do worst atrocities then trevor and get to get away with it because they technically work for or benefit the current government in power.

It's a weird and sorta fucked up reality of the situation. One that I enjoy is explored in GTA V, while still making a character who would go on murderous rampages in good old GTA fashion.

i think Michael says it best "There's got to be a limit, kid. You know? A point where even assholes like us say enough is e-******-nough...Human stew...that's my limit"

a human/AI/robot hybrid is my idea of a perfect life form, so any game that lets me do that is awesome in my book
