Dragon's Dogma ending was sad but not terrible, I thought Skyrim's was okay....I still haven't beaten Inquisition so that's as far as recent as I get
At this point, can you name a great recent game that DIDN'T have a terrible ending?

Well, since the OP is not going to answer my question, I suppose I'll just settle for games since the 10's -- Here are the ones I can think of at the moment.
New Vegas - All of them but I was a big fan of the Yes Man ending.
BioShock Infinite
Bloodborne
The Last of Us
Alice: Madness Returns - Great underrated game with a unique take on Lewis Carrol's world while also having a solid ending
Red Dead Redemption - Shocking and surprising but epitomizes the underlying thematic values of the story -- Violence & Revenge is an endless cycle that will always carry on with more violence. As violence plants itself like a poison it breeds more violence and revenge through John's son as he takes up his father mantle to carry out his spirit and thus prolonging the cycle once more as opposed to the rich life he was setting up for himself.
Red Dead is the best story done by Rockstar, quite simply.
inFamous 2 (The first two games in particular both had incredibly strong endings befitting of good comicbook material, the second one stood out as something that managed to tear me up a bit too)
Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker (Aside from the generally horribly written and uninspired villains like Hot Coldman, the game managed to have an excellent ending that could hamper up with the good Metal Gear games.. unlike 4)
Borderlands 2 (For what seems like a relatively simple loot-shooter, it surprised me with its engaging main villain who initially seems rather one-sided but is actually a rather complex character with flawed-skewered motivations that leads up to some actual tension in the final confrontation with him at the climatic ending. Borderlands has a great lore and world going for it, which is surprising for Gearbox, only slightly held back by the repetitive gameplay)
Catherine - Both the Katherine ending and what I suppose could be summarized as the neutral/freedom ending is great; I think the freedom ending is particularly strongest as it rather poignantly draws out the fundamental complexities of human relations and the nagging stereotypical viewpoints of gender politics and marriage that exist in society -- Essentially marriage has always been this symbol of the patriarchy, the proper and refined figure of one's status. It's still viewed as important, as somewhat of a contract, representing the entry point from child to adult, whereas Vincent figures there's more to life than living of expectations of others.
Persona Q - Heartwarming and sad ending which served its purpose as a farewell to the old characters quite splendidly.

No Devil Survivor 2 Record Breaker? Come on, I know-- Oh yeah. Thanks, Atlus.

Crusader Kings II has a terrible ending.
Death to Spies has a fairly disapponting ending too. But that's a pretty old game now.
Can't say that I liked the ending much for the first Mafia game either.
Wizards & Warriors wasn't too good either. After defeating Malkil you just got the same scene as you got from finishing every other level in the game.
Super Mario Bros 3 is only acceptable because the game actually finally ended. That game was dragging on for too long.

Another vote here for Walking Dead. It doesn't get better, and I'm getting old/played games longer than I care to admit.
Good god. Walking Dead Season 1. Not ashamed to admit that I had a playground worth of sand in my eyes at the end.

Mass Effect 3. One of the few games where I've actually cared about the story to begin with.
Witcher 2, is that recent? *Shrugs*
Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls

I wish I could play that without my laptop feeling like an oven. If I had a PS4 I wouldn't have to worry about all that extra sh*t. Things just work.
The music in Transistor is so good. Probably even better than Bastion's soundtrack. The story is pretty good too. I'd at least look up the OST unless you're waiting to experience it all at once.

I thought that's what Persona 4:DAN was for before Persona 5.

The Dancing game doesn't have the P3 cast -- Q's gameplay also happens to closer resemble that of the main games, being a JRPG and everything, thus it ultimately functions as a proper farewell to the old crew before moving on anymore than those fighting games or the Dancing Game.

All of the Uncharted games on console (didn't play the Vita game) have had pretty good endings that didn't have blatant cliffhangers, yet still left room for more.

I got sucked into the hype that was Tomb Raider 2013 and while the game was good it wasn't great. The ending was nothing spectacular either. Jump, shoot, slash. oooh it's over.............
I did go back for seconds as the game was fun once you got past the first 3 or 4 parts. It could have been more open world in a more genuine way but still it was fun. But I felt the ending sucked a lot of the fun away ... At least it ended with hope of a sequel. Hmmmm now where is that?
I got sucked into the hype of Watch Dogs and my god what were they thinking? Fun in small parts but not fun as a whole game. Ubisoft can't make a decent game can they?

There's plenty of recent games with good endings, and TW3, Halo 4 and Deus Ex:HR hardly had bad endings or do JRPGs not count anymore?

How about Ori and the Blind Forest (2015)?
The whole game was an emotional turmoil that lead to an epic and inspiring ending.
Not to mention such a moving soundtrack.

Definitely, and way ahead of you. I only needed to play it for about an hour altogether to know that soundtrack was flames and looked into it for sampling purposes. And I'm pretty sure no other game has ever had a hum button so that was cool too.

I liked it so much I purchased the OST separate to the game. I love the music to Transistor.
Now if only it didn't look like Red was dragging a cricket bat around....
