One thing I've noticed while playing as a Qunari is that we don't learn a whole lot about his or her parents. We know they're both Tal Vashoth and seem to be in contact with other Tal Vashoth given that they arrange for one to train their child as a mage should you choose to play as one. We also know they raised the Inquisitor at least until he or she became a mercenary. The thing is when Cassandra asks about your home the Inquisitor just responds "nowhere in particular" and refers to where the mercenary band primarily operated rather than where their parents lived.

We can probably infer that the Qunari Inquisitor moved around a lot growing up, being the child of two Tal Vashoth, which would explain why he or she doesn't particularly identify one place as home. What I want to know is, where are the parents now? Are they still alive? If not, what happened to them? Do we learn anything more about them?

Around? They're probably just having a nice quiet life in the free marches countryside or maybe living in a free marches city like any other person if they can take the bigotry. Honestly, I never really thought much of it even with all the thought I put into my roleplaying. No reason to, they sound like ordinary people that just happen to be really big and have horns. You may as well ask where Cadash's parents are too.

Honestly, I wouldn't mind knowing the answer to that either. xD

I guess it's a little odd given just how much family has played into the backgrounds for some of the other Dragon Age characters. Not to mention these two as Tal Vashoth who fled the Qun together sound like pretty interesting people. I'm curious if Bioware did anything with that.

My own headcanon actually has something to say about that.

"They left the Qun largely thanks to me. They had met and started doing something the Qun doesn't really allow... Dating. Then they did more things the Qun doesn't allow... Having sex, with Qunari who's role was not for it. Then they did something really bad according to the Qun... Mother got pregnant, which is bad because the qun likes to keep breeding very precisely controlled. They wanted to keep me, but knew the Qun would either force her to abort me or would take me from them and give me to the Tamassrans, and they would be split up either way. And besides that they wanted me to be able to choose my own life, which the Qun would never allow. And what if I turned out to be a mage? Even worse for me. So they left together, and never looked back."

Only one thing is certain, though.

The fact that the two fled before the Inquisitor was born as mentioned by Solas pretty much clarifies the Vashoth vs Tal-Vashoth mistake.

Since they really aren't mentioned, my personal headcanon for mine is that she doesn't really get along with them much anyway.  Given both the statements and portrayals we've seen of most Tal-Vashoth as being extremely rigid and headstrong as the real deal, I kind of latched onto the idea that someone raised outside the Qun would probably find them just as hard to deal with as the real deal, assuming they're like the others we've seen.

Despite never having an appearance, the Qunari Inquisitor's parents reminded me of Malcolm Hawke and Leandra Amell. I see it as they concerived their Qunari child under Qun then chose to escape to the Free Marches so could live a free life with their child but possibly on the run from the Qun (agents etc.).

You could say the same about lavellan inquisitors parents. Who I assume are in the clan or another clan (if you're a mage).

Only the human back ground has an actual reference to parents.

In any event, Inky's parent's (or lack thereof) could have been worth while to incorporate into the game. It would have made the characters more fleshed out.

With a war table mission or several? Wouldn't be fair, they already get their mercenary company's missions. And an actual appearance, even more so. No one else's parents appeared either, or the Lavellan's keeper.

I was referring to the Inquisitor of all the races as a whole, not just the Qunari one.

I always thought they died/got killed eventually.

My headcanon for my Adaar Inquisitiors is that their parents are dead, one caught in crossfire of a Qunari and Tal-Vashoth clash (since Tal-Vashoth would be able to provide some of the things a wandering pair of Vashoth would need that they can't get living amongst humans), the other ending up killed by darkspawn during the Blight (they were near the Fereldan border, some of the fleeing darkspawn cut them down).

Mine was living in their parents' cellar, jobless with no aspirations whatsoever. Until one day they had it with his slacking and sent him to "summer camp".

Now they can enjoy their old age and time alone.

protagonist parents and dragon age don't seem to work out to well. They either die, are drunks, or come back as corpses after they die. So do you really wanna know?p
