Usually in most Meyers Briggs based tests I get INTP. I guess I've changed a little bit: ISTP (The Virtuoso)

Variant: Turbulent

Type: Explorer

Introverted 47%| 2% Observant| 32% Thinking| 24% Prospecting| 19% Turbulent

 http://www.16persona...stp-personality

Nothing Is as Boring as Everyone Agreeing With You

ISTPs will come to learn that many other personality types have much more firmly drawn lines on rules and acceptable behavior than they do – they don't want to hear an insensitive joke, and certainly wouldn't tell one back, and they wouldn't want to engage in horseplay, even with a willing party. If a situation is already emotionally charged, violating these boundaries can backfire tremendously.

ISTPs have a particular difficulty in predicting emotions, but this is just a natural extension of their fairness, given how difficult it is to gauge ISTPs' emotions and motivations. However, their tendency to explore their relationships through their actions rather than through empathy can lead to some very frustrating situations. People with the ISTP personality type struggle with boundaries and guidelines, preferring the freedom to move about and color outside the lines if they need to.

Finding an environment where they can work with good friends who understand their style and unpredictability, combining their creativity, sense of humor and hands-on approach to build practical solutions and things, will give ISTPs many happy years of building useful boxes – and admiring them from the outside.

Still the same after 4-5 yearish.

INFJ Personality (“The Advocate”)

The INFJ personality type is very rare, making up less than one percent of the population, but they nonetheless leave their mark on the world. As Diplomats (NF), they have an inborn sense of idealism and morality, but what sets them apart is the accompanying Judging (J) trait – INFJs are not idle dreamers, but people capable of taking concrete steps to realize their goals and make a lasting positive impact.

70% Introverted
44% Intuitive
25% Feeling
14% Judging
30% Turbulent

INFJ Strengths

  • Creative – Combining a vivid imagination with a strong sense of compassion, INFJs use their creativity to resolve not technical challenges, but human ones. People with the INFJ personality type enjoy finding the perfect solution for someone they care about, and this strength makes them excellent counselors and advisors.
  • Insightful – Seeing through dishonesty and disingenuous motives, INFJs step past manipulation and sales tactics and into a more honest discussion. INFJs see how people and events are connected, and are able to use that insight to get to the heart of the matter.
  • Inspiring and Convincing – Speaking in human terms, not technical, INFJs have a fluid, inspirational writing style that appeals to the inner idealist in their audience. INFJs can even be astonishingly good orators, speaking with warmth and passion, if they are proud of what they are speaking for.
  • Decisive – Their creativity, insight and inspiration are able to have a real impact on the world, as INFJs are able to follow through on their ideas with conviction, willpower, and the planning necessary to see complex projects through to the end. INFJs don’t just see the way things ought to be, they act on those insights.
  • Determined and Passionate – When INFJs come to believe that something is important, they pursue that goal with a conviction and energy that can catch even their friends and loved ones off guard. INFJs will rock the boat if they have to, something not everyone likes to see, but their passion for their chosen cause is an inseparable part of their personality.
  • Altruistic – These strengths are used for good. INFJs have strong beliefs and take the actions that they do not because they are trying to advance themselves, but because they are trying to advance an idea that they truly believe will make the world a better place.

INFJ Weaknesses

  • Sensitive – When someone challenges or criticizes INFJs’ principles or values, they are likely to receive an alarmingly strong response. People with the INFJ personality type are highly vulnerable to criticism and conflict, and questioning their motives is the quickest way to their bad side.
  • Extremely Private – INFJs tend to present themselves as the culmination of an idea. This is partly because they believe in this idea, but also because INFJs are extremely private when it comes to their personal lives, using this image to keep themselves from having to truly open up, even to close friends. Trusting a new friend can be even more challenging for INFJs.
  • Perfectionistic – INFJs are all but defined by their pursuit of ideals. While this is a wonderful quality in many ways, an ideal situation is not always possible – in politics, in business, in romance – and INFJs too often drop or ignore healthy and productive situations and relationships, always believing there might be a better option down the road.
  • Always Need to Have a Cause – INFJs get so caught up in the passion of their pursuits that any of the cumbersome administrative or maintenance work that comes between them and the ideal they see on the horizon is deeply unwelcome. INFJs like to know that they are taking concrete steps towards their goals, and if routine tasks feel like they are getting in the way, or worse yet, there is no goal at all, they will feel restless and disappointed.
  • Can Burn Out Easily – Their passion, poor patience for routine maintenance, tendency to present themselves as an ideal, and extreme privacy tend to leave INFJs with few options for letting off steam. People with this personality type are likely to exhaust themselves in short order if they don’t find a way to balance their ideals with the realities of day-to-day living.

INFP - "The Mediator"

Hmm.  Reasonable enough, I guess.  I've done these tests a few times, the first two letters are a constant but the last two always seem to be completely random.  "Mediator" seems a close enough description, except when it comes to my own stuff.

So my understanding is that the Myers-Briggs Personality Inventory has fallen out of favor somewhat. Although it still has its defenders, the dominant approach appeals to what is known as the Big Five personality traits, sometimes expressed in terms of acronyms like OCEAN or CANOE:

  • Openness to Experience: Intellectual curiosity, willingness to embrace new ideas, willingness to pursue novel experiences, appreciation for art, literature, etc.
  • Conscientiousness: Discipline, organization, persistence in pursuing one's goals.
  • Extraversion: How much you enjoy interacting with others, level of social engagement, etc.
  • Agreeableness: How much you value getting along with others, the likelihood that you assume others have generally good intentions, generosity, etc.
  • Neuroticism: Likelihood of experiencing negative emotions like stress, anxiety, insecurity, etc.

Also worth noting: The big five are very good predictors of your political orientation: Liberals tend to rate high on openness to experience and neuroticism, conservatives tend to rate higher on conscientiousness and lower on openness, etc. So if you decide to take a Big Five test, that might be something to look out for as well.

I took a test on PsychCentral.net and while I can't vouch for its accuracy, here's what I came up with:

  • Openness: You scored really high on this trait, suggesting you love art and try to keep open-minded.
  • Conscientiousness: You scored average for this trait, suggesting you're somewhere between being well-organized and sometimes distracted.
  • Extraversion: You scored average for this trait, suggesting you lead a balanced life between extraversion and introversion.
  • Agreeableness: You scored really high on this trait, suggesting you are a very friendly, cooperative and trusting person.
  • Neuroticism: You scored really high on this trait, suggesting you're more emotional and more insecure than others.

*Insert a very long rant about how this type of test does not actually test a person's personality, and is instead highly influenced by the way the subject answers the questions.*

Statistically, the test has a very poor reliability rating as well since the mood of the subject also plays a role into how they answer the questions.

I don't have many mood changes... it's pretty accurate for me at least. And I tend to identify with ISFP, I guess (loosely).

From what I understand, MBTI is just about "preferences" anyways. It's not meant to pin things down too much.
