While I like the design of the SR-2, while replaying ME3 I'm finding that the ship feels emptier with fewer crewmembers (Squad) to interact with. I'm hoping for 5-7 squadmates at best so a smaller ship or one that feels a bit smaller would work well.

I feel the Defiant is a good example of a ship size I would like to serve on in the next game.

It's not the size of the boat, it's the motion in the ocean.

but it takes a long time to cross the atlantic in a row boat.

Unless you've got an oversized mass effect drive core attached to that bad boy.

TBH I kind of think of the Normandy as a Defiant type class ship so i could see it working.

I prefer small. More detailed and more sensibly designed, but small.

I heard that size does not matters as long as you know how to use it.

About the size of the first Normandy would be fine. No load screens (including elevators) would be great.

How about having an immobile mothership but you go out in a survey vessel the size of Serenity from Firefly?

As people said, it really depends on it's purpose. If Tempest is our base of operations, with troops, vehicles and equipment station there - then we'll certainly need a bigger ship. I personally prefer capital ship with small landing spacecraft, for the sake of variety and cinematic. If N7 guy shows up on his gunboat (I assume he's using some other ship, since his nav screen differs from first concept of navigation map) - s**t got real, if Tempest shows up - you'd better run.

On the other hand, where would colonists take such ship? Ark should very full with other more vital stuff.

No load screens (including elevators) would be great.

If they manage to make loading screens between floors on current gen with 8gb RAM I'll applaud them.

I would like the type of ship to confirm to the setting and the roles assigned to the player.

In a galaxy without fuel depots and spaceports, the ship would have to be able to scavenge resources. Also there is  believed to be a colony and base building element to the game and the ship should try and reflect this mission requirement. It would probably be quite a large ship, filled with gas extraction and processing equipment, mining drones, a foundry for processing ore into metals and an array of industrial scale 3D manufacturing modules. Most of these processes would be automated, so a large crew is not a requirement.

I'm thinking huge ship. After all an exploration vessel can't be to small right? Needs to have everything needed to start new colonies.

So I bet huge ship with perhaps smaller ships we take to pilot down to the surface. Or leave the big ship somewhere and use a smaller one to explore other systems.

Something like Battlestar Galactica as the main ship of all the races and some smaller ones one of them being commanded by the protagonist.

Do you think the next ship our PC gets should be large, smaller, or average?  I think it would be interesting to have a small ship going in to explore Andromeda.  Maybe the size of the SR1 or just a bit smaller.

Well, I don't agree - I think it's time we got ourselves a bigger boat :) (even more considering we are in a new galaxy where we might need all the firepower and protective shields we can get - not to mention if something gets damaged a larger ship has more backup systems!) and we have used the shuttle to go to and from planets anyway (btw. I want a better shuttle - better armed and able to transport heavy equipmen and aerodynamic enough to at least manage a controlled crash if all the mass effect tech fails!)

greetings LAX

ps: I'd have loved if Sheppard would have gotten promoted somewhere in the old games (no: becoming a SPECTRE is not really a promotion as you still can't order captains or admirals around...yes, it puts you outside the law and people (except the council) can't really boss you around anymore either, but that's it!) and given a larger vessel (we could have taken part in some of the real fighting with the reapers that way...I mean that's one of the gripes I have with ME3 (other than the ending, the linearity etc.): We were so disconnected from the action (come on the fleet does hit and runs and we don't take part, the crucible is being built and we are not even going there once? etc. -.-))

It should be Firefly-sized.

Its name should be Serenity.

Ours should be Mal.

I liked the SR-2 because there was room for potty and sleep quarters.

This really depends on how much is taken across to Andromeda in the first place. If the ship was by itself the entire time, then it would have to be a Jack-of-all-trades vessel that has to do everything, but it probably won't need to be if other ships and possibly stations serve as a small infrastructure for us.

Depends on the number of outpost/colony/alien homeworld hubs there are. If a large part of the game is focused upon exploring new and uncharted planets for the purpose of establlishing colonies, then I'd want the ship itself to be a major hub, since that's likely where a lot of the NPC interaction will occur. In that case, a big ship with a large and diverse crew would feel appropriate.

Yeah I agree on the point about how much is taken over to Andromeda. I think the less the better. Would think it rather odd if there was a fleet of ships or an infrastructure that supports it in place.

The sort of space vehicle I had in mind I imagine would be relatively common for humans. We had spread out into a number of colonies that covered a large part of the MW in a very short period of time. Some of the colonies were substantial population and industrial centers. There had to have been a capable system for breaking ground on a potential colony site in use and building the basics for fuelling platforms and HE3 extraction facilities. A company like EAE probably had a number of these exploration ships, self sufficient vehicles able to operate in environments with no infrastructure and it would be far more cost effective to combine the requirements for this role into the mimimum amount of hulls as possible

If your mission is to scout another galaxy, then you need to bring at least enough resources to establish a base. That means it is at least a fleet, maybe even a liveship. If you're fleeing and need to colonize, you'll bring everything and everyone, think Migrant Fleet levels.

I think it's extremely unlikely that we'll just have one frigate in Andromeda... but it is possible that we're in command of one, subordinate to a fleet commander.

There will be two ships, probably. If i were to straight up guess: One, the Tempest, is a Normandy sized vessel and the primary vessel of exploration. Two, the Ark, a large hub ship that serves the function of the Presidium/Citadel from the prior trilogy. You can explore both fully, but only use the Tempest for exploration.

Just give me something the size of the SR-2 or slightly bigger at most one or two more levels or one level and a bigger cargo bay, I need a decently sized ship so its more...realistic in the sense that the crew quarters match the appropriate size of the crew (I have read the hot racking/bunking codex). For example if the SR-2 had another level I would've liked to have seen the mess being slightly larger, another crew quarters and an amoury or something along those lines.
