It's likely a small Frigate like the Normandy SR-1, but in terms of Alliance naming schemes, the closest there is to a 'Great Historical Battle' with the name Tempest would be the Battle of Stalingrad. An operation codenamed 'Operation: Winter Storm' or Winter Tempest by the Germans was an attempt to help their troops already at the fight who were trapped there. . .note that Winter Tempest failed in the end . . .

It's a bit of a stretch, but would you want to be on a ship with the name Stalin in it?

. . .it's also the name of a British Fighter Ship, the Hawker Tempest. Used in World War II.

that;s interesting to know.

it also reminds me of a dream i had abt two years ago. i was in this setting that was real cozy. these ppl were there all talking and laughing. it was like the kitchen area in firefly.

then there was this tunnel i went thru for some reason. on the other side were these people that were in stasis, sleeping pods. something went wrong, though because there were bad guy soldiers on board. these people were vulnerable because they were in stasis. and i cared abt them.

i was almost caught spying, too. then i scurried back to the firefly side to get help for them. we were gonna go get them.

as far as the ship size: something cozy would be nice. something with more of a lived in feel, too.

Depends on the space hole we're going through

Isn't it obvious? We're going to a new galaxy and presumably doing that manifest destiny thing that's so unfashionable right now.

"This island’s mine, by Sycorax my mother,
Which thou takest from me. When thou camest first,
Thou strok’st me and made much of me, wouldst give me
Water with berries in ’t, and teach me how
To name the bigger light, and how the less,
That burn by day and night. And then I loved thee
And showed thee all the qualities o' th' isle,
The fresh springs, brine pits, barren place and fertile.
Cursed be I that did so! All the charms
Of Sycorax, toads, beetles, bats, light on you!
For I am all the subjects that you have,
Which first was mine own king. And here you sty me
In this hard rock, whiles you do keep from me
The rest o' th' island." (II.i.337-47)

You know, The Tempest, Shakespeare's colonialism play.

Fast, nimble, silent - like the Normandy. Give me type 1 - I liked the dark atmosphere.

I'm wondering if maybe the ship isn't part of the Alliance, but rather some sort of multi-species organization formed in Andromeda. That might explain a frigate not adhering to previous Alliance naming conventions.

It would also be cool to have a multi-species crew.

A multi-species crew is pretty much a given. Heck even on an Alliance ship, most of our crew members were aliens, and there was even one manning a station in engineering. I don't think BioWare would ever give us a setting where there were multiple species that coexisted in society and not give us a group comprised of a number of them.

I should have probably have clarified that to mean the people actually crewing the ship, rather than the squadmates. While there were alien squadmates in all three games, the crew of the Normandy in all three games was human.

By a ship with a multispecies crew I mean for an example a ship with an Asari pilot, a Turian gunnery officer, a Salarian engineer, a human Comm Officer, ect.

That could be super interesting to have a mixed crew working together to find a new home for all of their species but I personally think it'll be more alliance focused.

You might be right.

If the Tempest not adhering to past Alliance naming conventions isn't because the ship is not part of the Alliance, I'd bet on it being from a different class than the Normandy. I don't think the unusual name is random, considering how closely the first three games stuck to the lore when it came to ship names.

I was just reading your post and thought to myself doesn't the trailer even through it apparently doesn't show the main protagonist show an all human crew assaulting the desert world? Well I was wrong I saw a Krogan on that assault team so if anything it makes my hunch less likely and your theory more so.

I dont want a big or small ship. I WABT A GALACTIC FLEET BIG ENOUGG TO SIEZE A GALAXY.

On a serious note. Since we are supposedly going to be a "Pathfinder" of sorts, if you believe the leak, i would assume its going to be a smaller ship. Though i velieve it will be a bit bigger than the normandy. And thats pretty much exactly what i want.

I really think a small ship, carrying 7 squadmates, and a crew (pilot, navigator, engineer, etc) would make the game feel a bit more personal in my opinion.

I would like to see a sort of Starbug/submarine combo in terms of interior, cramped, often being on top of each other, aside from the captain everyone sleeps in bunks, privacy is minimal.

With crew, I could see it as captain (not the PC), who stays aboard all the time, pilot, an engineer or two (not all of them companions), doctor, a personnel officer who is combined HR, legal, counselling etc, everyone else is companions who fill other roles on the ship (armoury, battlestations, etc) allowing the ability to get to know your crew.

Depends on crew size amd job status of the ,main character, if we play a "pirate" type character and only have around six squadmates then I'd love a ship like the Ebon Hawk.

I could go for that. It would definitely have a Star Trek-y feel.

I really want a cranky batarian engineer.

Depends on it's purpose in-game.

As an Explorer it could be a smaller ship, as something that jumps in and take over an area of space it would be bigger to boost that kind of firepower and endurance.

I'm thinking somewhere normandyish for the Explorer ship. But I expect you to have a fleet of ships or you would get overrun immediately. I also expect the fleet to have Thanix cannons or Blueprints for Thanix cannons and other Tech that's actually ahead of what the natives got to give you a fightign chance when they outnumber you ten to one, or worse.

Otherwise they would just fly in, tear you to shreads, blast every planetary settelment you create to smitherenes from orbit.

Still, their numbers means you have to be careful, and they are somewhat careful about engaging you Zergstyle due to the risk of Heavy losses on their side.
Being a small refugee fleet with at least 1 enemy Alien faction that's native to the galaxy and far mroe numberous with several developed Worlds pouring Resources into their military... Then you need something extra to stay alive or it's game over Before it starts.

Unless the natives never learned to build starships and only got a few old relics and "Stargates", that way the only thing that matters is ground battles.. and guarding chokepoints on planets.... This isn't Mass effect: Stargate though.

Least not to my knowledge.

The game will be about us starting with a technological advantage, but a severe numerical and population dissadvantage, kind of how the Human Alliance made it into the milkyway Community.
Our job will be to aquire Resources for "our" people the "colonists"/refugees, to make Alliances where possible to ensure our safety and the possibility of trade and an influx of Resources and capital. Handle security against new threats, like that species that sounds like it wants to kill "us".
In order to boost the defences and omprove on the current situation you will start explorign the "Remnant of an old lost civilisation known as the remnant.
Hoping to learn something and boost your defences against this hostile species that threatens the safety of the refugees.

Obviously, there has to be some reason the other speices arn't digging into their ruins, some dark past or history that kind of made them taboo.
This could also be the reason you find your self at war early on, you might have touched something and drawn their ire. Now they want to destroy you. That or they are just nasty and want to destroy you because you're vermin in their Eyes squating on their galaxy.

I expect a an exploration vehicle, and a collonial fleet consisting of a mixture of vehicles... Kind of like the Quarrian flotilla in the old Trilogy. Perhaps an ARK ship, or maybe not.... If there is an ARK ship, then it would be HUGE, and possibly an old relic or the greatest grandest thing the Council ever built.

If we are really going on some colony ship designed for trips that are years long, capable of sustaining itself, then I expect it to be really crowded (in both equipment and living beings) kinda like a submarine or an aircraft carrier. Space (as in the free space of rooms) is really valuable and they don't have the luxury to waste space.

I'm hoping that the ship will land on planet (with actual landing struts) and deploy the Mako ground-side.

If there is a massive "Ark" ship, I would suspect that would be the main hub world but it would gradually move through territories in the galaxy map.

ME1 had a human only crew. While you did have non-humans on-board, they weren't part of the crew of the ship - they were non-combatants that Shepard recruited into the fire team(s). In ME2, the crew was also primarily non-human (apart from Mordin, Tali and Garrus).

Honestly besides the size I want a lot more crew at their stations, in the mess, etc and to understand their roles better.

I would want something around the SR-2's size. being able to fit multiple vehicles seems like a must to me. also it should be big enough that it can without a resupply for a while.
