I just got 3d max 8 and all the tools to import/export nwn2 files.

1. I imported a nwn2 skeleton and changed its idle animation a bit.

Then used the granny exporter to export and named it p_hhm_O2hT_idle (to replace human staff idle). I also just to be sure, made another one called p_hhm_dosomething and a script to fire it.

It didn't work.

Any idea why?

2. I have no idea how to actually mesh up everything- lets say there's a skeleton and an idle animation - aren't those 2 files for one thing? plus - lets say I wanna add a new character animation -   How do I make it compatible with cloaks?

1) What didn't work? The new O2ht_idle animation or the p_hhm_dosomething ?
First thing to check: was the skeleton you imported p_hhm_skel.gr2?
Second: did you save the new animations in the My docs override directory?

2) Yes, the _skel.gr2 file defines the names and hierarchy of the bones, whereas the other files define the rotations and positions of the bones for each animation.
To add a cloak to the idle animation, you'll need to include the cloak skeleton in your new animation (so, yes, there'd be two skeletons to animate).

1. Both didn't work - I even went as far as to override P_hhm_idle..

2. I imported the p_hhm_skel.gr2 yes

Then I edit the position I wanted and saved it using the granny addon as  p_hhm_O2ht_idle, p_hhm_idle, P_HHM_dosomething ext..

Nothing happened when tried this even though all those files are in the override - they still used their normal animations ingame..

Actually, it should work better with O2hS, or with a different type of staff.

I know the wiki says

O2HT – Open 2 handed thrust (poles, staffs, spears)
O2HS – Open 2 handed slash (axes)
but it looks like the staves (model wield #4 = two-handed) don't use the same combat stance as spears (model wield #12, not described).
