Just found out about an upcoming RPG.  I assume everyone here is into single-player, third-person, Western-style, open-world, story-driven action RPG.  It has a unique and very interesting post-apocalytic setting.  It is a PS4 exclusive.  The trailer includes introduction and gameplay:

From its Wikipedia entry:

Horizon Zero Dawn is an action role-playing game in which players take control of Aloy, a hunter and archer, as she progresses through a post-apocalyptic land which is ruled by mechanized creatures, such as robotic dinosaurs. The game is set in a future 1000 years from the present, in which human civilization has collapsed, and that world is dominated by robotic creatures, which have become the strongest creatures in the world. The component of these creatures, such as electricity and the metal they are composed of, are vital to Aloy's survival, and she can loot these creatures' corpses to find these useful resources.

Players can use a variety of way to kill enemies, such as setting traps like tripwires, shooting enemies with arrows, utilizing explosive and melee combat. Silent takedowns are also available. Players can also craft new items by collecting materials and machines parts found in the world.  The game also features an open world, which can be explored by players when they are not completing missions. A dynamic day-night cycle and weather system be featured, and Guerrilla Games have also stated that the game will feature no loading screens.

"PS4 Exclusive."

I stopped reading.

Well, the trailer is still a good watch.

BTW, I currently do not own a PS4 (or Xbox One.)  I have already been planning to buy a PS4 for Uncharted 4, (and the remastered Uncharted trilogy and The Last of Us.)  This new RPG could be an added incentive for me to buy a PS4.

I currently have no plan to buy an Xbox One... or another Xbox, ever again.  Had a horrible experience with Xbox 360. More importantly, Microsoft does not offer anything at all that could entice me to buy an Xbox one, like  a true exclusive that is not a shooter.  Xbox used to have an edge over Playstation because Micrsooft used to have BioWare as its exclusive developer.  Xbox used to be the "go to" console for exclusive Western RPG.  Now it seems to me that the situation is about to be reserved.

Also, the stealth and archery gameplay in Horizon Zero Dawn seems very similar to Rise of Tomb Raider.  IMO, Uncharted 4 + Horizon Zero Dawn effectively make Rise of Tomb Raider "fake" exclusive a moot point.  Microsoft seriously needs to up its exclusive game.  And I'm talking about real exclusives, not fake exclusives like timed exclusives, console exclusives or exclusive DLC - those are not real exclusives.  Something that is not Halo or Gears of War or yet another shooter.  Seriously, Xbox does not need any more sci-fi or shooter game.  Xbox exclusives could use a bit more,  variety.

Agreed trailer looks cool.

Apparently its post-post apocalyptic setting. Looks interesting but I don't own a PS4 so doubt I'll ever play it unless it comes to PC (very very doubtful). Plus it Guerilla Games who have heard make okay games but nothing spectacular and are more know for their shooters.

It does look up my street though so maybe I might have to finally pick up a next-gen console to play it when it comes out, if its turns out to be spectacular with the Uncharted trilogy and 4 which I have also have never played, coming out soon and everyone praises and having to wait an extra year for tomb raider. I nearly took the next-gen plunge with Destiny but its quite lucky I didn't now even thought I'm still surprised an online-FPS shooter MMO didn't release on PC.

It looks pretty but I don't own a console and "robotic dinosaurs"?

I could go for it if the setting had a strong sense of parody and humor ...it doesn't seem to be the case.

The story , if there is any , is probably crappy as hell.

Could be a great action game though , who knows.

It looks like someone took Monster Hunter and gave it the controls of the Tomb Raider reboot. Might be good, early days still.

I'll pretty much buy anything from Guerilla games. Love the Killzone series, to bad it never got the popularity it deserves. So when Horizon and Uncharted launches next year i will finally get a PS4. Horizon was the most interesting new IP at E3 imo.

It is a full-fledged RPG with XP, perks, skill trees, etc.

No wonder Xbone sales suck.

PS4 is obviously getting the best exclusives. I cannot remember any noteworthy Xbox exclusive game in last couple of years, and PS had The Last of Us, Bloodborne (both generally considered 9-10/10 games) and now this.

Looks interesting, pity I won't be able to play it.

I stopped reading after "Action-rpg". Usually means action game + some level up choices here and there.

So... Dragon Age 2/Inquisition, Witcher series, and Mass Effect series don't appeal to you?

Because they are all described as "Action RPGs".

IMO, Sony fanboys have been too busy talking about Uncharted 4, The Last Guardian, Final Fantasy VII remake and Shenmue 3 from E3.  They have completely overlooked this new gem.  This one intrigues me more than even Uncharted 4.

I stopped reading after i registered to the forums. :P

Anyway this is one the games that i'm glad to have a PS4 with my PC. Seems close enough to Dragon's Dogma which means tens of hours will be spent.

Robo dinos aren't that bad on paper. People talking like they have complained about how AT-ATs or AT-STs had dino look And they were transport vehicles, totally ridiculus and out of place.... Or not? Sometimes stuff works.

They might be "semi synthetics" too. 50% of the concept of Mass Effect. And 90% of Deus Ex Human Revolution. See? Not that bad ^^

If i was a developer of HZD i'd tie that to "Humanity relearned everything from old scrolls and drawings on caves x years after the apocalypse"

PS: I think it looks alike Shadow of Mordor aswell.

Looks fun but I don't expect much from the story. Though Guerrilla are good at building settings so they could do something with that.

Well, apart from occassional gems like Divinity: Original Sin, or Pillars of Eternity, the "pure" RPG genre is almost dead. If we count only AAA releases, then it's truly dead. Everyone shifted to Action RPG.

Last gen? No AAA title will appear on the last gen.

Ever again. This system is simply too old.

But yeah, exclusives are pretty annoying. I always wondered, is Sony/Microsoft paying the developer enough, that releasing a big budget title on one platform is profitable?

I mean, if they released say, Bloodborne on Xbone and PC, it would double the sales (provided they made a decent PC port).

It's not that much about me complaining, and more about me not understanding the business strategy.

I only need one or two good RPGs a year. And production quality is the lowest of my concerns. So this type of gameplay (which is basically an action game with leveling) seems boring by comparison.

I realize that I'm not the majority, who find turn based or more statistically based game design boring, but if I want to play an action game, I'll play an action game. If I want to play a story-centric game, I'll play that. Games that try to be RPG and Action and Story all seem to want to chase five different elements of game design instead of doing any of them exceptionally well (in my opinion).

It seems these days that RPGs are being developed by (or, at least for) people who don't like RPGs.

Most exlusives are tied up in first party studios though, there are some exceptions with third party ofc. All in all it would be better if every game came out on every platform, but then how would they sell consoles? If i could play God of War and The Last of Us on PC with 60 fps, why would i buy a PS3?

That is precisely what they do. They pay publishers/developers a huge sum of money to not develop their product for other platforms.

Da2 and DA:I were button mashers. They did not apeal, no.

The witcher had superb roleplaying in it. A sick amount of consequences and story. That one appealed.

ME crashed and burned in the third act.
