Greetings all.

Does having something like it on mages boost their mana ? Or does it not work and only affects stamina ?

The biggest frustration in playing mage is that there is very little way to raise your mana or mana regeneration.

While we are on the subject of mana and mana regeneration, is there any way to raise mana other than lyrium potions ?

No joy. Stamina is for Warriors and Rogues only. Mages, including Knight-Enchanters, need not apply.

After Skyhold, it gets a lot easier to generate mana. Before, it's a bit more of a challenge. Lyrium is you best bet, but there are also passives that can help, if you can afford the skill points: Rejuvenating Barrier, Mana Surge (sort of), Winter Stillness. The most effective of all, Restorative Veil, isn't available until specializations are, as a Rift Mage.

There are some FT mats that effectively increase your maximum mana. For example, one flavor of Fade-Touched Ring Velvet grants "Abilities cost 7.5% less mana/stamina". Since spells cost less, you get more bang for the max mana buck.

It's worth mentioning that you are often limited more by cooldowns then by mana, depending on what you are casting. If you want to spam high mana costs spells like Energy Barrage or Static Cage, yeah, mana is a limiter, but you'll need to do something about cooldowns as well.

Hope this helps.

Stamina Amulets cannot be worn by mages. That said, Mastercrafting the increased stamina ability onto an item will raise a mage's max mana. Other than abilities like that, and Lyrium potions, no, there's no way to raise a mage's max mana.

Mages have a bunch of ways to increase their mana regen though. Rift Mages are best in this category (and by extension, RM passives on Arcane Warrior in MP). Almost everything in the game can be weakened, and they can still take advantage of Rejuvenating Barrier, and/or Winter Stillness in addition to Mana Surge.

Knight Enchanter has a moderate amount of mana regen. It can always take advantage of RB when properly built, and can make use of Combat Clarity, but even with those combined, you'll still run out of mana.

Necro gets Death Siphon, which is awesome, but needs mobs to work.

I think raising the willpower stat might make spells cost less mana, relatively speaking.  The stamina amulet is good, but I don't usually use it much, since there's other stuff I usually want more.

As other posters are saying, item bonuses, ability benefits, and party buffs are the best ways to get your mana to stretch more.

Willpower doesn't do that, sorry.

What does it do?  It seems to have some influence on the frequency abilities can be used.  Each of the secondary attributes has an impact for all classes, as opposed to the primary ones, which benefit only their target class.  If Constitution increases health (HP), and Cunning increases cleverness (crit hit chance), wouldn't Willpower increase mental fortitude (stamina or mana)?  The number for mana is still 100 without item boosts, but maybe mana is replenished more quickly or spells cost less.  Otherwise, why would there be bow grips and axe hafts that increase willpower?

tl:dr... will power increases attack and magic defense for all classes.

Make sure you always have a mage in your party that has regenerative barriers.  This helps a lot.  Also, the rift mage specialization is designed around the idea of infinite mana pool.  So if you really want to never have mana problems, go with Rift Mage.  Knight Enchanter is designed around infinite barrier.  Necromancer is...eh...designed around infinite health, sort of.

Does that work now? Last I checked it only worked for the mages that had actually put the point into the passive.

You may be correct.  I haven't really played since patch 4 (recently renewed interested in game).  According to this Guide, patch 5 made the passive apply to only yourself.  That being said, I have no idea how it is actually behaving.  I was just going off what the passive reads in-game.

Conflict

In-Game Description:

When you or your allies have an active barrier, the beneficial energy invigorates them and helps the recover mana or stamina more quickly.

Guide:

Rejuvenating Barrier

  • [Bug? - Patch 5] Only applies the stamina/mana regeneration bonus to self. The bonus is applied when any barrier is active on self, no matter who applied the barrier.

I should note that the Guide hasn't been updated since March of 2015.
