BioWare cancel Shadow Realms, working on Star Wars and new IP instead

Obviously we don't have any idea what the setting will be, and they'll already know what sort of setting they're doing so we can't make suggestions.

But that doesn't mean that we can't talk about what we hope/want the setting to be,

Personally I want a Steampunk+magic setting. I adore Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura, a game

thats setting explores what would happen if a world full of magic, elves, and dwarves still had an industrial era, still invented trains and guns etc. We don't see rpgs like that much.

If you could pick, what setting would you want for a new bioware IP?

Don't have a preference, but the only thing they don't have covered is a cyberpunk like setting.

DA covers the medieval fantast.

ME covers space - scifi fantasy.

Near future post apocalyptic is one area they don't have, also I believe David Gaider was a backer for the new Shadowrun games so that would indicate interest in the genre from Mr Gaider.

Something like Alpha Protocol.

It had its problems, was never close to being bad as critics said. Can't really say "It was a failure", i actually liked it with all its imperfections.

But i think with Bioware's "magic" we can have a nice thrilling spy game in current time setting with choices, backstabs, double agents, betrayals etc.

We have the following from Bioware:

- High Fantasy.

- Space-Fiction.

We do not have the following:

- Paleolithic

- Western (Can't say I'd like to see Bioware tackle a Western setting. Don't think they could pull it off.)

- Modern

- Post Apocalyptic

- Steampunk *shudders*

I like this idea. They're good at character drama:

a team of spies, and at some point the player learns that someone on their team is a double agent. . .but who!? They then have to deduce who this is as subtly as possible, then find the double agent and remove them. . .or KILL ALL THE TEAMMATES TAKE NO CHANCES YOU WERE THE DOUBLE AGENT ALL ALONG YOU PARANOID MONSTER.

Broganisity Approves

Grimdark Steampunk Fantasy, something akin to Arcanum or Dishonored. I'm not sure, though. Part of its charm is that it's pretty underused.

Or, they could do a Jade Empire and pull out mythology from cultures outside the West. I'd love a West African or Mesoamerican inspired RPG.

Hmm. I think something in modern times would be cool. Don't need to save the world or nothing. Just give me an interesting narrative with some morally grey choices.

I'd like to see a developer use modern day Africa as a setting. You got politics, crime, social issues, interesting wildlife, etc -- lots of things to make an interesting story and shed light on some real world issues.

Gothic.

Most likely the new IP is just an MMO, though.

I'm kinda hoping for a dark modern urban fantasy like The secret world. Set it in a large place like NYC or LA.

Ot maybe not. I just want to romance a demon :D

I want an actual super hero/Villain rpg though I doubt that is it also maybe some kinda maybe some kind of post apocalyptic steam punk magic game

Also something where it isn't a complete save the world/universe this has pretty much been the plot to at least 6 of last 8 not counting swtor because I am not sure how to judge it The thing I liked the best about the story of Da 2 is it is more personal where as the entire ME and DaO and DaI are save the world because you're special or no one else is competent to do so or both This is why I want a superhero game where we protect people and make their lives better but if we die life goes on

Do we even know if it's going to be an rpg? It seems like Bioware wants to have something different for there next franchise. I thought the cancelled game they were working on was going to be a multiplayer game.

nnnnnnnnnNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!

Keep them far away from stuff like that. For the love of god we don't need people on here making threads about R'hollar Oppression, White Walker Companions, and Patriarchy in the Night's Watch.

As far as I can tell, bioware works really well when they have a lot of wide open spaces, big boss fights, and a tight knit group going against the large odds.

If they do a setting, they should focus on those aspects. Otherwise you're gonna get a bioware game with none of the charm the current ones have, but all of the problems everyone complains about.

And please, no spy stuff. We've seen how bioware handles espionage and intelligence work with Mass Effect, KOTOR, and Dragon Age Inquisition. It isn't their strong suit, and they really won't do well if they make a game where that's the main focus.

But that's just it. Espionage wasn't the focus in the game you mention so it wasn't all that good. Also I beg to differ when it comes to Bioware not doing well with a spy story. The imperial spy from SWTOR was one of, if not THE, best story in the game. I wouldn't sell bioware short on making a spy game

I think they should make an eastern fantasy martial arts RPG set in a dynasty named after a precious green rock.

That idea is just crazy enough to work.
