Hi All....Lately I've been replaying 1-3 here and there, but I've always been curious about DLC from ME2, namely "Arrival" and "Overlord" and how they really fill in the story about the Reapers and the pending invasion.. But I don't have any BW points on my account....So in order to get both of those DLCs I would have to spend at least 20.00 (CDN) first to get the points....then whatever they cost......And I am not sure I really want to spend that kinda money.  I mean, potentially all that could add up to what the game cost in the first place (ballparking 60.00).

Opinions are welcomed....

Thanks!

ALL the story dlcs for mass effect 1-2-3 are worth it.

you can skip the skins (namely something like "Alternate appearance X")

Arrival pretty much is last thing in Mass Effect 2 and shows why you start where you are in Mass Effect 3.

Overlord is great as well.

but really try and get all the story oriented dlcs for the trilogy.

I thought Arrival, Lair of the Shadow Broker are awesome. Overlord and Kasumi Stolen Memory are well done. Zaeed - The Prince of Revenge so so.

Arrival connects ME 2 to 3, kinda a must have.

LotSB is one of best DLCs for any game ever.

Overlord is well written and different from the game.(You use vehicle on a planet and it has a nice emotional story)

Kasumi is again well written, you can get best SMG in game and arguably one of the best casual clothing in game. Kasumi is a nice character but not much interaction.

Zaeed is a nice character but in overall it lacks to bring much to game. I think it was free though so no complaints :)

PS: Here is a reddit FAQ about DLCs, might help you : http://www.reddit.co...effect_dlc_faq/

I highly suggest getting the DLC for the Mass Effect trilogy. Lair of the Shadow Broker is a must for ME2. Overlord and Arrival are very good as well. As for ME3 Leviathan and Omega are okay but Citadel is a must have if you are even remotely a Mass Effect fan.

Arrival is a must have since it connects ME2 Plot with ME3 Plot and explains lots the beggining of ME3. (It's centered around the Reapers and their Invasion on this galaxy)

Overlord is something you need to have if you like the HammerHead Explorations available in the Firewalker Pack DLC and it has nothing to do with Reapers, but with a Cerberus Cell that their experiments went wrong. The experiments? Creating Obedient AIs. If you like this certain stuff, you may want to download it and IMO is very worth it, especially at the end Scene of the DLC.

Edit: Of course, I'm writing based on what you asked, but I can put up my opinions about the other DLCs here as well.

In short, get all the Story DLCs, they are a definite adition to the game.

Have to second Lair of the Shadow Broker - it's terrific, maybe my favorite DLC in a game since RDR's "Undead Nightmare" DLC.

I have to say that Mass Effect was unusally well-served by its DLC. It's all high quality, and Kasumi and Zaeed are probably my two favorite squadmates in ME2. It's nearly all worth picking up.

My Thanks to all of you for your opinions and posts.  I have considered everything that has been said and decided to splurge- so I picked up both Arrival and Overlord after watching some of each of them on youtube.  Not sure I like the idea of the Hammerhead...I remember I downloaded that DLC pack when it was originally available and I found the controls for the Hammerhead in the firewalker pack to be very clumsy-- even more so than the Mako. (To be honest I didn't think the Mako was all that bad to begin with), but I really didn't care for the hammerhead.  That being said, however, I am still looking forward to the story aspect of Overlord after talking with Bryson during....that Mission in ME 2, and I've always been intrigued by what he said. This is a good way to explore that side of the story, and I also find that it relates a lot to at least one of the novels.

I am also looking forward to playing Arrival because I am very interested in how it ties 2 to 3.  I just really like anything that evolves/explains the story and characters of the Mass Effect Universe....

Thanks for all the advice!

What is it about the Hammerhead that people find hard? I don't get it at all. It is ultra-easy to use on the xbox. Tell it to turn, it turns. Tell it to go forward, it goes forward. Tell it to stop, it stops. Maybe it takes just a bit of practice, but it is ultra-responsive to your commands. If you think the Mako was easy to use, then the Hammerhead should be a breeze. Maybe people find it is too responsive; too agile?

The Hammerhead is not that enjoyable to be honest. It is overly sensitive I find, and is basically useless in a fight, which usually revolves around hiding behind a rock, popping out firing a few shots then waiting for the shields to reload again, it would actually be easier not to use the thing. Luckily it isn't used extensively.

Do not download Arrival until you have finished the game because it forces a cutscene to start that breaks the immersion as it is best completed after the main story and other dlc. Or use the delayed Arrival activation mod. Enjoy.

For me, it isn't just this. But the missions are a pain in the ass..

For example, you are almost completing a mission, only to die because it can't take a few hits, like the Mako. Then, restart, repeat same process, restart again.

Plus, I can't even see the damn Geth shooting anything at me (For example, those Assault Rifle Geth) until the Hammerhead is on fire.

It's boring, really. Take a few hits, hide, take a few hits, hide and so on.

Well, ok, I can see that the Hammerhead could be boring. Pop up, shoot, drop down, and if damaged, wait until repaired, repeat. But frankly, I will take boring over frustrating any day.

The hammerhead just makes me want to use the Mako. Not only is the mako easier to repair, but it has two weapons instead of one and it looks cooler.

I'd recommend Overlord for the music alone, epic.

Arrival allows you to solo as Shepard which was cool imo as I always wanted that option, as if Shepard needs two side kicks backing him up all the time.

the only one I don't think would be worth it is Omega in ME3 [I personally loved it, but I don't think it is $15 worth of fun unless you just adore Omega/Aria]

I'd say they are worth it, but then again I am a ME fan. Still, the DLCs are well done. From Bring Down the Sky and Pinnacle station from ME1 to Arrival, Overlord and lastly to Citadel, probably the best DLC in the ME franchise. Some you can skip, like armors and weapons or alterate costumes, but I just got everything and don't have an ounce of regret.

Overlord is my favourite DLC, for alot of reasons. It has a satisfying conclusion in Mass Effect 3, it has a story that makes you think and question humanity, the music is insanely good, the combat is fun and engaging. Overall just a good buy. Lair of the Shadow Broker is a must have aswell and the same with Arrival. I would go for Kasumi and Zaeed aswell as they have interesting missions and extra content in Mass Effect 3.

Skip the firewalker dlc - its useless. Replaying now, and there is no point to it. Probably the weakest DLC Bioware has every done. Rest are decent or excellent

I would say none of it is worth it for the cost. Charging what they do for DLC on a 5 year old game in unconscionable. 4 years ago it was a great deal, 3 years ago it was meh, now it's a rip-off. Makes me regret my decision to stop torrenting but I won't let EA's greed decide my ethics for me.

Bring down the sky was ok but was the intro to the Batarians.

Pinnacle Station is a slog and not worth it.

Lair of the Shadow Broker is awesome. Get it.

Overlord was pretty good but has nothing to do with anything.

Arrival was also pretty good but not only does it not actually have a purpose, but what purpose it could have had was destroyed by ME3.

I can't speak to the ME3 DLCs.  I don't have any and haven't played it a second time.

Mass Effect 1 DLC:

- Bring Down The Sky: It's a mission separate from the main plot. It introduces the Batarian race. The Normandy (your character's ship) receives a SOS from an asteroid, where Batarian terrorists have captured a human science team. The mission is no longer accessible if you have reached Ilos.

- Pinnacle Station: It's a Spectre training ground, with its own set of competitive challenges and leaderboards. If all objectives are completed, Shepard receives his own apartment on the Pinnacle Station asteroid. The mission is no longer accessible if you have reached Ilos.

Mass Effect 2 DLC:

- Lair of the Shadow Broker: Shepard receives unique intel on the Shadow Broker, a mysterious individual or organization which deals in the galaxy’s secrets. Information is his currency. Knowledge is power, and he has eyes and ears in every corner of the galaxy, on every world. It's an action-heavy DLC in which you team up with "an old friend" to take down the Shadow Broker.

- Zaeed - the Price of Revenge: This DLC adds a new squadmate, Zaeed Massani, a battle-hardened veteran mercenary and the founder of the Blue Suns mercenary group.

- Kasumi - Stolen Memory: This DLC adds a new squadmate, Kasumi Goto. She is a master thief without second, capable of cracking the most complex technology.

- Project Firewalker: Your ship acquires a new exploration airborne vehicle called the “Hammerhead”, with several Geth-related missions included.

- Overlord: An action-heavy DLC in which a hybrid AI has taken over a secret research station and is attempting to upload itself off-world and take over the galaxy’s machines, resulting in technological apocalypse. The Hammerhead is the main means of travel in this DLC.

- Arrival: This is the final DLC for Mass Effect 2 and It bridges the gap between the conclusion of ME2 and the beginning of Mass Effect 3. Reminiscent of "Bring Down The Sky", Shepard is instructed by his superior, Admiral Hackett, to rescue a personal friend of his from a Batarian prison on the planet Aratoht, deep inside Batarian space. Her last report stated that her research team discovered an ancient artefact on an asteroid in the Bahak system, which gave her proof of an imminent invasion by........giant space monsters.

*ME2 also includes several cosmetic/weaponry DLC.*

Mass Effect 3 DLC:

- From Ashes: Returning to Eden Prime, the planet where it all began, Shepard attempts to recover a Prothean artifact from the enemy faction. This DLC adds a new squadmate, Javik.

- Extended Cut: Originally meant to be released as paid DLC, the Extended Cut expands the ending sequence of Mass Effect 3. It is free.

- Leviathan: This is a lore-heavy DLC, which delves deep into the origin of the Reapers and introduces the Leviathans.

- Omega: Cerberus has invaded and taken control of the Omega space station. Aria T’Loak, Omega’s deposed ruler, recruits Shepard to help take Omega back. This DLC introduces the Adjutants: horrific Reaper creatures created by Cerberus which convert their victims into more Adjutants. It also has a DLC-exclusive bonus squadmate, Nyreen Kandros (female Turian).

- Citadel: Taking some much-needed downtime, Shepard is unavoidably dragged into battle through the Citadel wards by a new enemy who is dead set on eliminating him once and for all. Once the mission is concluded, Shepard throws the mother of all parties and spends quality time with every surviving squadmate he recruited in all three games (excluding Aria). Citadel is the final DLC for Mass Effect 3 and serves as a farewell to the trilogy and Commander Shepard’s story.

It also has an arena with its own optional side-missions, where you can fight against computer-controlled enemies. It's a much-improved version of Pinnacle Station.

*ME3 also has several weaponry & alternate outfit DLC.*

Whether you prefer action-heavy or lore-heavy DLC, each one is a piece of the story so I'd recommend all of them. The alternate appearance/weaponry packs are hit or miss.

All story oriented DLC's for all Mass Effect games are great bonus content. I actually have all DLC's for ME3, all story dlc for ME2 (including pack with mattock), and bring down the sky for ME1.

All are fun and worth buying. they will expand your experience greatly, it's just up to you if you buy anything.

My opinion on the story DLCs is that they're all worth it.

BTDS makes ME1 feel complete by having the Batarians make their first appearance. If you felt it a bit annoying that they got an codex entry, but didn't get any appearance in the standard game, then download this DLC.

I have never played Pinnacle Station. It's regarded by most as the worst DLC for the ME trilogy. It's very combat-focused, and takes place on Pinnacle Station, an arena-sort of place. Since I often enjoy things most others don't, I might have liked this DLC, but i'm not sure. Shepard also gets his/her own apartment in this DLC.

Stolen Thief and Price of Revenge adds new squadmates. Thief adds Kasumi, a master thief. Revenge adds Zaeed, an elite mercenary. Zaeed is free, so you might as well download that. Both squadmates come with their own loyalty missions, so you get some new locations too!

Normandy Crash Site is a free DLC that let's you explore the burial ground of the original Normandy. It's a short DLC, and the mission itself is just a "collection mission", but if you want a little ME1 nostalgia, you should try.

Firewalker adds a new vehicle to replace the Mako. People are pretty divided on this, but it won't cost you anything.

Overlord adds a nice little story, and is a MUST if you love exploration, like me.

LOTSB is highly praised by most, and lets you have Liara as a temporary squadmate. You also finally find out who or what the Shadow Broker is.

Arrival bridges ME2 and ME3, and builds up suspense to the Reapers arrival. Without this DLC, there is no buildup. The Reapers just arrive at the start of ME3, and thus, the experience feels lesser for it. That's at least how I felt. Note that Arrival is a solo-experience though, so Shepard is going in alone. You can't take your squadmates with you.

From Ashes adds Javik, an actual living Prothean. The mission itself isn't great, if you ask me, but the permanent squadmate it provides is interesting, and has a lot to say if you bring him to the Thessia-mission.

Leviathan goes in-depth to explain the reapers origins. It is a very lore-focused DLC, and it attempts to foreshadow the ending, so it doesn't come so out of the blue.

The atmosphere of the DLC is very mysterious and creepy. If you felt that ME3 lacked that mysterious atmosphere from the previous installments, especially ME1, then you should probably try this DLC.

Omega is an action-oriented DLC, which you may or may not like. Personally, I loved it, but I like Aria and Omega, so i'm biased. Note that you can't take your squadmates with you on this mission. Instead you get two temporary squadmates: Aria and a female Turian. If you have ever wondered how a female Turian looks like, then you might like this DLC, just for that.

Citadel is, in my not so humble opinion, the best DLC for the ME trilogy. In this DLC, you say a final-goodbye to your crew from all three games (Aside from Legion, Mordin and Morinth, who does not show up in the DLC - Mordin still has some content though).

This DLC adds a new hub-area, lets you have Wrex as a temporary squadmate through the DLC (Seriously, the DLC is worth it just for that!), and gives you the opportunity to throw a party with your friends from across the three games!

In the Armax Arena, you can join up with some of the ME2 squadmates to combat other enemy factions (including the Collectors from ME2!).

This is the ME trilogy's final DLC, and it is a pure "have-fun" DLC, with a lighthearted tone, and your squadmates as the focus. It really adds so much to the ME3 experience.

That's my opinion on the trilogy DLC.
