Though I gave a long feedback thread in the past and shared that I gave up on Inquisition I've decided to at least get my achievements done and finish JoH,

So comparing Mass Effect 3 to Inquisition Learned something.

At Mass Effect 3 the multiplayer experience thought me how to utilize powers, use correct ammo and understand the mechanics of the enemies.

In Inquisition I've learned from the multiplayer (and single player to some extant) that Crafting is the name of the game.

Many unique abilities can be added via masterwork slots, you can abuse certain armor ranks with silverite to remove restrictions, you can gain health and guard with just gear.

I've tried now and on my first visit to haven post prologue I could craft some very good armor and weapons which are much better then anything that drops on first few areas you start with pre-skyhold.

I think that crafting was a double edged sword,

First, it is very immersive and add collection of materials aspect. then you get the HUGE variety of options to min\max most abilities and attributes. and of course crafted items are uber powerful compared to anything else you can normally find.

OTOH,

due to the imba-ness of crafting there is really no point in using drops or loot for gear. the gathering materials for crafting is bit too much (thanks for BE DLC btw it's a time saver) and some of the most expensive items in the game are crafting schematics.

I remember fondly in DA:O and DA:2 where you had to pick from variety of items availble in the game of via DLCs in order to get the desired stats and effects.

Example: in DA:O you could mix Heavy red dragon armor with Evon's chest armor part to get negative fatigue stat and very good bonuses which you could use with an Arcane Warrior to max your sustained effects OR use with a warrior to get boost to stamina.

In Inquisition otoh I could use that nifty Inquisitor Helmet drop or I could instead craft the exact same look with much better stats.

So my point is that instead of trying to figure the mechanics or correct use of abilities the Crafting and Gear took the lead as the most centric aspect which affects the difficulty of the game.

thoughts?

I don't mind crafting, but making it so that a basic sword you crafted is leagues better than some sword of legend you discovered was a stupid decision...

I must admit, crafting or no crafting doesn't really make a big difference to me. (except for the obvious reason of immersion)

The gear you find is more then enough to get you through the game if you spec your character the right way.

However you are correct in stating the crafting can make you incredibly imba from the get go. You can pick up tier 3 schematics from the moment you hit Skyhold, and the rest of the game from there is basically "KILL ALL THE TINGS"

When that is said and done though, i think it puts a grand decision in our hands. If you wanna gear your character to be imba, you can do it. You can also chose not to do so, so nothing is restricted you can play the game as you want. :)

What i really think did lack in the game was more different designs on weapons, not only for crafting, but for gear in general in the game. The only truely awesome sword in the game is "sulivans blade" (or whatever it's called) and i have yet to find a good looking armor. But thats all subjective. :)

yes it is problematic. I usually do save\load to test the looks of armors and it is different for each character.... really annoying.

I usually just stick with the usual trailer style armor and call it a day.

thanks god they added armor tint.

and about crafting...

Started the game > haven > zerged to Val Royux to recruit most companions (missing 2) > crafted T2 armor and weapons for everyone.

now I don't even use tactics... it's very very very easy to kill and smack everything.

I think it's mostly due to the fact drops and loot have 1 or 2 attributes beside armor\damage rating.

While you craft and upgrade you can get whooping 6+ attributes like sundering\healing\resists and more.... so it is very powerful.
