Not really legal does not equal moral.
Agreed. All you have to do is look at past laws (and current laws) to see that.

I've held back on commenting on this, but I feel like giving it my thoughts.
Overall, if Bioware feel they cannot create the content they want to while maintaining support for old consoles, then I think that it is the right decision to stop providing new content for them. Old hardware is holding them back, preventing them from implementing things that they want to be part of the game. If support for last generation consoles is the sacrifice that needs to be made for BW to fully realise DA:I, then, although it is not a good thing, I think it is the best choice.
That's not to say by any means that I don't have sympathy for those who are losing out because of this. Had I been affected then, yes, I too would be very disappointed. While you certianly aren't entitled to any new content, I don't think it is any way unreasonable for you to have been excepcting full access to DLC, particularly given that BW had never said anything about this even being a possiblity before now. I think some of the posts in this thread have gone a bit too far with the criticism, but I can understand why that is.
But the biggest thing overall is how badly BW/EA have handled this. Even from the original annoucement: "Hey guys, we've got this really cool new system that will let you move saves from your old consoles to new ones! (oh, and by the way, we're not making any more stuff for the old ones)" is a horrible way to annouce something like this. Throw in the complete lack of any justifications or explanations as to why this decision was made (a short response on twitter some time later is not nearly enough), and the complete lack of warning that it was even a possibility, and it is frankly little better than pissing all over your customers from a great height. The announcement should have begun with an apology for withdrawing support, it should've had explained why they were doing so and then, and only then, presented the save converter as a "not ideal but the best we can do" option. I'm also definitely in the camp of offering a free - or at the very least significantly reduced price - current gen copy of the game for those who are losing out as a result of this decision.
Whichever way BW went on this issue - whether to sacrifice content or last-gen support - they were going to end up with some disappointed fans. But instead of actually trying to treat those people with bit of decency, to try to apologise to them, to try and explain why they made the decision, they instead came out and tried to push the band-aid of a save converter as some great new feature while hiding the main point, the lack of new content for last-gen consoles, halfway down the annoucement.

Can't possibly agree with this more. If they actually acknowledged that this was very disappointing for oldgen players, and apologized along with an explanation of why they did it, it would be a much, much better situation. And I don't really want to self-promote, but I just want to highlight how easy it was for me to write something exactly like that.
"All future Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One only, so we designed our Save Importer feature to help make the transition to a new console as easy as possible. We realize that this will be disheartening to a number of players, and we sincerely (see, it's just a word) apologize for any inconvenience this causes them. At Bioware, we strive to make the best content possible, and unfortunately, we had to move past the limitations of the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360 hardware so that we could realize our visions for the future of Dragon Age. We look forward to sharing that journey with you when the time comes."
I just can't believe that they really care if they didn't bother even doing this ![]()
Bioware and EA can kick rocks. The damage is done. Funny the apathetic folks here. Probably the same ones who whined and cried about me3 and got a free extended cut for their efforts. Bioware owed them not a damn thing, yet they voiced complaint. This dropped support is much more important, yet the people complaining about horrible business practices are NOW supporting horrible business practices. Lolololololol.
Thank you to the next gen people who have empathy and critical thinking skills. I appreciate you.

This.
I don't see how this is any different. I (personally) was completely fine with the ME3 original ending, but was all for "redo".
A.) MOAR ME!!1!!
B.) Obviously people felt very strongly for their ME experience, that they felt it was jeopardized by a unfilling ending.
But as you say GreatBlueHeron, BioWare owed them ABSOLUTELY nothing, yet they were gracious enough to dish out a second ending.

Iakus, you,re not a hypocrite. I appreciate your support.

Yeah. It's not at all hard. And it wouldn't cost them anything to present the announcement in a way that at least gives them impression they care somewhat about their customers. When it comes down to making a tradeoff between cutomers and profit, I can at least understand when they go for the latter (even if I dislike it). But on something like this, it wouldn't have cost them anything monetarily, and would've likely gone some way to mitigating the customer unhappiness. And yet, nope, we get them pushing their band-aid, while half-hiding the meaningful announcement with no apology or explanation. That this could be done in this way indicats that something is very wrong with the company ethos. This isn't just being "lets make all the moneys". It's getting close to deliberately treating your customers badly when there is no profit in doing so.

The amount of rage going on about that ending/those endings. Man. I was like "whateves". I didn't realize how game breaking an ending was. ![]()
User@Mike_LaidlawIs it feasible to offer new DLC with the game engine only (Like ACIV did) so that last-gen DAI owners don't buy DAI twice?Mike Laidlaw @Mike_LaidlawI don't think we have an upgrade plan for the core game, but previously-purchased DLC will transfer over to next gen instantly.user@Mike_LaidlawIt could be a way to appease angry last-gen DAI owners who refuse to buy DAI a 2nd time. Just an idea - I play DAI on PC.Mike Laidlaw @Mike_LaidlawIt’s a good idea, but I don’t think it’s technically feasible. What a load. I need to make me a twitter account.

That's exactly right. Sometimes, a company has to make a decision between making money and pleasing fans. But sometimes, they can do both (not this situation), and sometimes they can make money and at least lessen the amount of fan displeasure (this situation)... and they don't. Whenever something like this happens, where there is no downside to helping fans out a bit, that's when I'm really perplexed as to their strategy. I thought it was business 101 that you should make your customers happy whenever it has no downside to you
But what do I know, right? I'm just some gamer ![]()

Me too
I'm not going to start a discussion about the specifics, but to give you an idea of how much I cared, well, more than half of my postcount on the left was about the ending, most of that in the Indoctrination Theory thread ![]()

Happy customers = a customer willing to spend money on you & your product.
Happy/pleased customers earns you a customer for life, assuming they never "grow" out of gaming. Look at those fans/customers of CD Projekt RED, you'd think that company just solved/ended world hunger with the amount of praise/love they get. That's one fanbase I wouldn't mess with to be quite honest. ![]()
A customer that's happy and pleased will also spread the word and bring in potential new customers, which ='s more money for that company. It's just smart to, at least try, and make the effort to please your customers.

Well, Bioware marketing has always been sh*t honestly.

Agreed. Still confuses me though. And it's not just at Bioware that I see it.
Biggest problem is fact you cant go from xbox 360 to PS4 or PS3 to Xbox one. Alot of people did not buy the same console or will. I played last generation with most games on 360 just due to fact they looked and ran a little better now with this generation i do same thing with PS4 for that reason.
<-----(Didn't pitch a fit about the ME3 ending and isn't pitching a fit about this)
Atleast we're both consistent
Well I know people who pitched a fit about it but got over it ![]()

Yeah this is the bigger problem. Especially when many 360 users are migrating to PS4. It's like this for all game that allow to move platforms though. I guess Sony and Microsoft don't cooperate.
So, I posted this on another topic, but its relevant here too:
I'm seeing that free upgrades to Windows 10 are being offered for practically all Windows 7 and 8/8.1 owners. And Windows 10 apparently includes XBOX software, allowing you to play XBOX games on your windows PC. So, I was wondering, shouldn't this solve a lot of people's problems with regards to the cancellation of DLC support for last gen consoles for a lot of people? If you are on this forum, you may very well have a PC that can upgrade to Windows 10, essentially getting you an XBOX One for free.
Then you can just wait till DA:I is on sale or buy the game again full price...
Why people wouldn't just get it for PC at that point, I don't know. I mean you can always just hook your PC up to your TV and play the PC version with a controller if you really want to. But still. Just a thought.

Well this could work, but it depends on if people have high-end PC's or not. DAI is quite demanding game and my new PC can't meet even on mininum requirements. This could be case with majority of old gen players as well, cause I'd assume that they would have rather bought the game to PC than old gen if their PC's could handle it.
It's unlikely, but I would like Bioware to find a way for me to transfer my PC save to Xbox One.
DAI going to EA Access vault 'very soon', meaning that anyone with a XBOne will be able to play DAI (amongst other titles) for £3.99 per month or £19.99 per year.
