Of course in mass effect I, we can romance kaiden or ashley. It looks like in mass effect 2 - that is not possible? Can anyone fill me in on how they transitioned out of that for the sequel?
It likely will shed light on Dragonage and how they handle that. Thanks.

There are new romance options. Those two are no longer possible party members (due to one or the other being dead, depending on your choices) and they don't factor into the story much other than to make cameo appearances.

I think the appearance of Ashley or Kaidan is decided by which character died in your playthrough, and I think you get to decide at the start of the game if you didn't import a game (something about being asked questions to check that you're fully recovered, like they do when you're in hospital.)

Yeah it looks like if you were with kaiden..hes now on a top secret mission and you have a picture of him on your desktop in your quarters, if you had a romantic reationship with him.

You can't have Ashley nor Kaiden in ME2 because Casey removed them along with Wrex and Liara.

Those Questions are for the People who haven't played ME1. It's the same thing Obsidian did in KotOR 2.

Really? EXCELLENT! I really don't want to have to create a 5th ME1 playthrough just to end up with a character who was unromanced, but I really, REALLY don't want to be unfaithful to my love interest from ME1.
If there's a way to break up with/let them down gently before pursuing a ME2 love interest, that's music to my ears.
