A little... a part of me wishes they fixed it rather than take it out completely.

i didnt like the omnigel thing either but what i am trying to say is this. In ME1 you could go buy a gun at the store, it looked cooler then the one u had before which was satisfying, it also was better than the one u had before! IN ME2 im a level 12 and i only have 2 assult riffles, its driving me crazy!

You thought the guns in ME1 looked different?

I miss the old ME1 inventory system very badly. I just don't get how you send your colleagues into battle wearing a t-shirt.

The two aren't necessarily connected. You could easily have the present system and armour for squadmates. Shepard is wearing armour in the new game, isn't (s)he?

I found it disappointing that I couldn't outfit my squad members with new armor. That, and I found it extremely implausible that you could survive in vacuum with just a facemask and nothing else to hold your insides in. That was a major issue I had with the game, seeing my squadmates in the game wearing facemasks while I wore a fully sealed hardsuit.

I was like this: "Dude, your brains are gonna get sucked out of your ears."

No. Of all the big changes since ME1, the removal of the old inventory system is the one I'm most unambiguously happy about. In my opinion, the old system was both annoying in its specific implementation and kind of silly in the general concept.
Annoying because I had to sort through a flood of redundant and/or useless items. Silly because... why exactly is Shepard running around, carrying an enormous bag of guns to sell in the market? (S)he's a spec ops soldier, not some post-apocalytic scavenger or medieval treasure hunter, where such behaviour might make sense.
Good riddance.
Wanting more variety in weapons I can get behind, but gathering them on the battlefield? No thanks.

Well said.

I would have liked it if they gave the items, as is, more game/stat- related descriptions. Right now it's just a "Hey, you have this gun, here's a wikipedia entry about it" I want to be able to quickly choose which weapons to equip based on the situation, not read massive walls of text trying to figure out which weapon is better suited to the task

Gotta love the fanbois attempting to justify the dumbing down of the game.

I love how not liking the first inventory system equates to this.

Scientists have analyzed the issue of space decompression.  They've concluded that people's insides will not get sucked out, nor will their blood boil, nor will they instantaneously freeze.  Now, until someone has an accident in space we won't know for sure what will happen, but your childhood fantasies of people spontaneously exploding is not a contemplated outcome.

But there was only  two weapon models each  in about four different colours.

That wasn't what I was suggesting. I was suggesting that a human body is not capable of surviving in vacuum, even with an oxygen supply, because of other factors that could cause the body to fail in a number of different ways. Decompression is one of them.

No. I hated the old inventory system. Once you had 10 million credits max, it was really, really pointless picking up guns and armor, but you felt like you should anyway because you couldn't see their stats before grabbing them, and didn't want to miss the one or two items in the game that may be superior to your mostly maxed out gear. You also couldn't look in a crate, see that you had no room, exit the crate, and then manage your inventory in order to return to the crate. You had one shot, and if you couldn't fit the loot, you HAD to convert to omni gel. I had so much omni gel by the end of my 2nd play through, Shepard could have retired and set up a cottage industry.

Also, filling up all your items was no picinic. You'd fill up, and would have to go through each item one at a time and hit the 'convert to omni gel' screen, which had an additional 'are you SURE?' screen. Considering you had to do this about 50 times a mission minimum, it was a horrible, horrible way to handle inventory. Didn't break the game, but it was absolutely one of the worst aspects. It will not be missed by most people.

The inventory system was alright during your first playthrough but towards the end began to be a lumbering beast over the gameplay.

In subsequent play throughs the beast just grew and grew taking more time away from the gameplay.

At least thats how i feel about it.

Hmmm, shall we make disparaging remarks about how Sabiancym must be some teenage munchkin who loves pointless loot for its own sake?

I haven't played long enough to forge a full opinion about the inventory system yet. I do like the new system, not having to sell/omnigel your inventory after every couple of fights is a bonus, but until I start researching, I won't know how the new research upgrade system works. If I have one complaint, it is not having the ability to change the armor on my squad, and I feel that's a legitimate complaint. Not only did the armor offer protection, but it altered their appearance, which I like.

It was a hassle. Having 15 different pistols and assault rifles. Selling them or trading them into omni gell. eh. But it does feel like something is missing.

I really do miss old inventory system, with all the better weapons u got over time really made it feel like there was some progression in the game. Now there are hardly any new weapons and I really miss that feeling of progression. Really miss spectre weapons :(

Not a bit! I'd rather "scan" a weapon or armor than have to break it down into omni-gel any day. I was constantly at 999 omni-gel and just wasting weapons and armor since I also had 9999999 credits in ME1.

I sort of agree with you, Ginkosu. I guess I'm an old CRPG fan, and I do miss the feeling of searching for the Predator M (or L or S) X armor for you or your companion and finding it after a long play. Like a lot of people, I don't miss the management nightmare once you reach the credit limit and inventory size, but the notion of "building" characters via your inventory and having that "ohh I found something new" feeling that you get as a by-product of that system is something I miss.

Now, I haven't played this game that long, and so maybe I'll get to like the new system after a while...

I dont know about u guys but i playalot of rpgs and the old mass effect system was more in depth than before. IDK this new one is just... bland. I'd rather have a million different guns and ammo types and armors, then have one gun, one armor and just upgrade those for the entire game. I like the armor custamization, but I miss adding diferent things to each indavidual gun. Thi is prob just me though!

Sorry, no, I don't really miss it.  There wasn't nearly enough difference in the equipment to really make it enjoyable for me.  There were less than a dozen armors and people generally only used a handful of them.  The numbers assigned to them are no different than the upgrades you do in ME2 (except you had less control over them).  For guns it was even less.  There were two guns per type, with a couple color variations and some slight stat differences based on manufacturer.  Again, this just wasn't compelling.  I never got much joy out of upgrading from Stiletto V to Stiletto VI.

And while I have no desire to turn my RPGs into reality engines, ME1's looting ranged from questionable to downright hilarious sometime.  I remember searching the ruins around Zhu's Hope (where the soldiers were armed with low-end assault rifles and mediocre pistols) and finding a Rosenkov shotgun and two upper-level sniper rifles in a sludge pile

That makes sense?  How do you role play that one?  Why are there 100,000 credit weapons just littered around ruins?  You'd think that colony would be rich.  They should be mining that place, considering the pile of credits I got selling stuff I just found lying around the surface.

The new system is a little more believeable and means I don't waste time dealing with boring variations of the same gun.
