not at all. And this new system fits the game a whole lot better. After all you already maxed out all your guns and armor since your working for a top secret organization with massive funds. Also since this is a Cinematic-RPG it makes even more sense. It's all about the story and the feel of the universe. Not about min/maxing and loot grinding. So imho this new system is absolutely... perfect, there i said it.

I do admit that the inventory and item system in Mass Effect 1 was a 'little' too much but I didn't want it totally scrapped out of Mass Effect 2. Ehh. Looks like we'll just have to deal.

I wont miss it. I spent HOURS in that inventory just sorting, turning into omnigel or sell stuff. It didn't bother me on my first playthrough, but it really got on my nerves in the second and third. Especially towards the end of the game --> it pisses me off. :D

The main problem was that I'm usually a very tidy person. And it also bothered me that, when browsing through the list of ammunition types or armor gadgets, the list was always very long.

So of course I made sure to omnigel or sell anything I don't need. My rule was to have only three of every ammunition type or gadget. I think you can imagine how long it always took me to sort my inventory out after each mission. <_<

While the old inventory system was jacked, I miss getting loot.

YES! Very much so!  Most detractors of the new system agree that there were simply too many item drops in the first game. But instead of scaling back and making item drops more prominent, less frequent and more useful, re-visualizing and structuring the inventory interface for easier manipulation, they took the route of inanely throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

This is sort of off topic, but how do you guys feel about the new hacking system?

That's a valid question, but I'd make a new thread on that.

I like it. It's not as simplistic.

Now that one got me. I didn't mind the "Simon Says" approach, but this new one is going to take some getting used to. I just have to remind myself what I'm looking for and hopefully it'll work out for the best.

Im torn, I actually liked spending the time going through and breaking down what I received, then comparing it to the equipment already on my squad, but now that its gone, Im kinda glad that I don't have to go through and do it. Probably why my play time in ME1 was around 65hrs lol.

I found it disappointing that I couldn't outfit my squad members with new armor. That, and I found it extremely implausible that you could survive in vacuum with just a facemask and nothing else to hold your insides in. That was a major issue I had with the game, seeing my squadmates in the game wearing facemasks while I wore a fully sealed hardsuit.

I was like this: "Dude, your brains are gonna get sucked out of your ears."

That's why it's called Sci Fi

Not missing old inventory system at all. Then again I do not enjoy reading and comparing every weapon/armor stat as well.

No. I do still have nightmares about that awful system, though. I'm so glad to be rid of it now.

I wish weapons were more limited, but other than that, not really. I hated having to stop actually playing my game every 150 items to convert a bunch of upgrades to Omni-Gel. I hated that I had to scroll down to the bottom of the list to reach the low-level upgrades for EACH ITEM that I wanted to convert to omni-gel. I don't agree with everything about the new system, but I definitely think it's a great deal better than the old one, and I can understand the decisions I don't completely agree with.

Unfortunately Ginkosu, they had to dumb down ME2 for the console crowd.

Scientists have analyzed the issue of space decompression.  They've concluded that people's insides will not get sucked out, nor will their blood boil, nor will they instantaneously freeze.  Now, until someone has an accident in space we won't know for sure what will happen, but your childhood fantasies of people spontaneously exploding is not a contemplated outcome.

You will freeze to death in the vacuum of space very quickly if you do not have a proper suit. The temperature in space can get close to absolute zero. One of the many little things that just make the game unbelievable and by that I mean the game is no longer a sci-fi game trying to make itself look realistic.

I very much like that the guns feel different, like in mass effect 1 every gun of a certain type felt exactly the same, but I do wish there were more options, and that the mods were more than research projects that could all be applied, but I don't hate this system. I love the differences between the two pistols and the two sniper rifles, nothing like that existed in the first game

I imagine that the reason why they use simple gasmasks is because they are biotics and erected some sort of shield. But still, it feels too far fetched.

But on topic : Yes, I miss the inventory. Swapping between weapons not so much, but customizing my armor and weapon upgrades, yeah.

I still haven't received my copy so I can't comment on the new system. I can say that the old system can be very tedious.
But how can it be dumbed down for the console crowd if mass effect 1 was an xbox 360 exclusive in the first place?

Believe it or not I do not have fond memories of selling 150 items.

I miss the old system in that I miss having options.  I don't miss the old system in teh way it was organized.  I played on the PC and still found it cumbersome.  They could have just had same items stack and grouped like items together, boom there you go, nice and clean.  I agree, the new system is boring, bland, and lacks immersion.

ME1 came out on the PC as well with a better inventory system but it was still clunky.

I can't say I'll miss the system from the first Mass Effect. In practice the inventory system was invasive and a touch impractical.

Despite being a 'dumb ass console player' (thanks for that rather snotty nosed generalisation sjeremy) though, I certainly didn't find ME1's 'overwhelmingly complex' inventory system very difficult to manage. How about that, a non PC player who isn't confused by the nuances of RPG's!

No. I do not. I say this as a Bioware gamer who has been playing since Baldur's Gate. The system in ME1 was ridiculous, it took all day to scroll through all your items to sell or junk the old crap as you kept picking up the new stuff. While customizing your team was neat ME2 has clearly shifted to focus on storytelling and combat and as a result streamlined the equipment and items interface--anyone that "misses" having to scroll through 250 items to find the one you want can play DA:O since that still has the intensive, micro-management system that I didn't think anyone possibly could like. Personally I'm a huge fan of the Diablo/Resident Evil 4 inventory system, which is a grid system--I love that system, it has no clutter.
