Bioware do the right thing- give free copy of DAI on new gen consoles to PS3 & XBOX360 folks.

They should be able to trade in their copy for the current gen copy. GTA5 and Saint Row 4 did that.

That's a good way to do it imo, as long as you get a new copy of what you bought already. I'd hate to turn in my Deluxe edition to get a regular copy in return.

Maybe. But than people would be howling at the moon because  old gen got a stripped down version of the DLC. As I understand it the actual game without DLC was pushing old gen to it's knees.

They basically could do old gen versions that were stripped down enough (more work) or then strip down the DLC in general enough so PS3 and XBOX360 can run it (less work).

So everyone with new gen and pcs should get a stripped down version of a DLC just because you refuse to upgrade?

I don't think there would be problem if they stripped graphics and NPC's without dialogue. The problem is when they strip things they have promised are in the game like scars and then people have unpleasant suprises when they realise what is missing.

Not, because I refuse to upgrade, because Bioware did cross-gen game.

People would still be complaining about how they didn't get the same content as the new gen, when they paid the same price.

But, yea, Bioware should give free copies to the old gen people.

I don't mean taking out content, I mean lowering graphics and so on. So basically what happens when PC is in minimum requirements, but not over recomended one's.

This would be ideal yes, well second best option. Best would be still doing DLC's for everyone.

Trying to make the best of a bad situation?

PR talk mostly.

Wouldn't you still get the content from the Save importer?

It pretty much is PR talk because I honestly doubt their "happy" about this decision

Lowering graphics wouldn't solve it, they actually would have take out content like they did the base game

There might be a small handful of devs over there who had to port to the old-gen as well as next-gen consoles who are very happy they can focus on just one set of consoles now.  Conversely, someone may have lost their jobs if porting to the past-gen consoles was their only job.  They would be very unhappy, for sure.

So yes, I think it's most likely that the developers are not really happy about this.  They know people are bound to be upset.  There is probably a degree of ambivalence since, "Well, people will be angry, but we can make the DLC we want to now and not worry quite as much about whether it will run on people's systems."

Trading in past-gen copies for newer-gen copies is a good idea, but, I remind everyone again, not every player likely is able to or wants to upgrade, for whatever their personal reasons.  So what about those players left in the lurch?  They can't trade up, but maybe they still want the DLC.  What then?  Gift cards?  But that would cost EA too much money so I can't see it happening.

Yep, because I'm still saving up for a PS4 myself :P

Free stuff from EAware

Keep dreaming. This means more game sales for them. Why would they pass up that opportunity?

Sorry about that...

I've been thinking about buying one, for the exclusives.  I've been console-free for years.  I prefer playing on my computer--but it's in need of an upgrade, too, now, so...

Yeah, basically, I feel the pain.  Both in the "How could they do this to us?" sense, and the "upgrading is expensive" sense.

I'm a PC gamer, but yeah, the DAI game license should be transferable when upgrading systems. If I buy a new video card or new CPU, I don't re-buy my library afterall.

As I understand it they paid the same base price as other platforms did for a lesser experience. Seems only right that they should get the update version when upgrading systems.
I guess where it gets complicated is if someone wants to go from say a 360 to PC or PS4. Probably not much that can be done about that situation. Well there is but they won't.

The free upgrade also gets complicated when you factor in retailers

I am unsure honestly I suppose if the same stuff from the deluxe edition then that would be fine.

Sorry if I'm not making much sense I recently took some pain medication coupled with how late it is I'm probably not reading the information correctly.

So, you're an old gen that somewhat support this, and Daisy is a new gen that doesn't.

Where there's a will there's a way I suppose.

All I can do is wish them luck. Sounds like people who bought the game on old systems got a rotten deal all round. I've got no dog in this fight, but hate seeing people ripped off.

Cause they are nice and fair people ;)

Seriously speaking they would get more DLC sales and their reputation would go up.

Can't you get it for a low price these days?

You do have to repurchase it, but it's not still $60, is it?

(I'd support some sort of discount offer, but it's not reasonable to expect a free upgrade; BioWare has already made it so that the DLC carries across generations.)

Depends if you can find bargain of it somewhere. Around where I live PS3 version of the game is still 65 euros.

Sure it may seem as though they'll get more DLC sales, but statistically they won't. There are going to be those whom will buy this game again for the next gen no matter what; brand new even. Plus there will be others buying this game eventually down the line. So I don't think there will be that much of a difference in their DLC sales. As for reputation; again this is EAware, your wallet means more to them than their reputation.

Seems like this presents an opportunity for Sony or MS to gain some new customers if either wants to step up and offer a copy of the 'next gen' version of DAI for owners of the older systems who also own DAI if they upgrade the new system. Hell no reason for EA to not get in either as PC sales on Origin all go directly to EA as well.

As most people know Sony and MS don't make money from the sales of the systems themselves, but the games that are sold after purchase. Anything they lost would be made up very quickly and be a profitable venture in the end I would think.

Someone like me, who is planning on getting an Xbox One in a few months but bought DAI + DLC on the PS3 (the digital version of the main game, too, so I can't even sell the thing to recoup some money), is especially screwed. I don't even get the benefit of transferring saves or getting JOH upgraded for free.

If they had announced that the old-gen consoles would not be supported by DLC, I still would've bought the main game in the meantime for the PS3, but I certainly would not have bought JOH, Spoils of the Avvar and upgraded to the Flames of the Inquisition version. Nor especially bothered with a second, completionist playthrough. I also would have bought a hardcopy that I could later sell.

I'm not going to boycott the current-gen stuff but now I'm just going have to forget about DA for awhile. What's the point of continuing a dead save profile? Once I get a current-gen console I'll probably be too caught up with Fallout 4 and its DLCs and other games. So not looking forward to redoing my canon DAI character and re-collecting things (those damn shards!) and all that. I guess I'll be taking a long vacation from DAI now. I definitely don't want to get spoiled by the new DLC, either, for when I eventually restart again. Ugh.

The surprise was it being released on old gen in the first place.

But they did and now they expect players who brought the Xbox360/PS3 version in good faith because they're selling on those platforms to go out and not only upgrade to new gen at £300+ they also want you to buy the game again.

And adding insult to injury is BW telling us this is a good thing, they're our good pals doing us a favour. No apology in sight.

Yikes.  This is disappointing to hear.  I can understand why they made the choice from a business stand point but it's really unfair to people who are playing the game on the last gen systems.  DA: I was actually the tipping point for me to upgrade.  I bought and played it on 360 and it was just really subpar, so I decided it was time to upgrade.  I'm fortunate that I'm able to make that decision without financial burden.  But I can imagine how many people just aren't able to drop hundreds of dollars on a new console plus another copy of the game.  Last gen players really got a raw deal all around and this is really a crappy end to the journey.  As much as I hate to say it, they would probably have been better off not even porting it to last gen systems if this is how it all ends.  Sorry to hear that this happened guys.  I hope they do something to make it better and not just leave you all in the dust.

I'm with you on this one OP, but I don't believe EA will do the right thing. Most people who were on last gen purchased the game last year and it's already off the warranty, so... Yeah, you got no choice but get the upgrade and pay for the game again.

Checked at my local Wal-Mart two weeks ago and it was still seventy bucks for all versions. Canadian stores.
