There are 3-4 decent female human hairstyles, and ZERO even halfway decent male ones. They're all so damn ugly. I may play as a female again even though I want to romance Dorian.
Anyone have any suggestions for a male slightly naive and sheltered human/elf/dwarf thrown into into the big bad world kind of character?

I agree about male hairstyles. I'm still furious, because I can't have normal, short hairstyle like Cullen and Alistair. Not including them is just... rude, because it's the most common men's haircut.
I've never played as female, but I fully understand why femInq players feel screwed over. It's not only about the absence of good, feminine hair. Another issue is receding hairline. They didn't even bother to slightly edit some of the haircuts with it. I just don't get it, because receding hairline isn't normal for females.

I don't mind having baldness options for those who want them, but yeah, I think everyone agrees the hair choice is ridiculously limited. Maybe it's so our Inquisitors feel humble in the presence of the Advisors, who all have lovely hair.

It's not because of the Qunari hair styles. Because the Qunari hair styles are basically horn styles with hair, or no hair, if you want a particular horn style for your Qunari.
I wanted those horns, so no hair for Haya. 
By my lights, there's one decent hairstyle for females (the ponytail), and that's mostly because somebody made a mod for it. In contrast, I like several of the hairstyles for men (the avatar one, the crew cut with the widow's peak, two of the side part styles, and the shaved side). Clearly, "decent" is a relative term. Sorry, but I refuse to give my females sideburns.
