For nVidia users:

Unfortunately, neither SLI nor Anti-Aliasing is supported out of the box, even with the latest driver 196.21 (nVidia made an error with their ME 2 profile).

I created a profile which allows to use SLI and Anti-Aliasing with the game.

See this link for details: http://forum.nhancer...p=6064#post6064

Please feel free to distribute this info to as many forums as you want.

Awesome work. Any idea how to fix the really dark shardows present often on characters? I've heard that it is also a problem with nVidia cards...

It's not necessary traffic out with nhancer. You simply could edit the "NvApps.xml" profile for make the entry look like as it should be.

Original entry:

<PROFILE Label="Mass Effect II">
<APPLICATION Label="biogame.exe"/>
<PROPERTY Label="hybrid_rendering_mode" Value="0x00000001" Default="0x00000001" Itemtype="predefined"/>
<PROPERTY Label="multichip_rendering_mode" Value="0x02402005" Default="0x02402005" Itemtype="predefined"/>
</PROFILE>

Updated entry:

<PROFILE Label="Mass Effect II">
<APPLICATION Label="MassEffect2.exe"/>
<PROPERTY Label="hybrid_rendering_mode" Value="0x00000001" Default="0x00000001" Itemtype="predefined"/>
<PROPERTY Label="multichip_rendering_mode" Value="0x02402005" Default="0x02402005" Itemtype="predefined"/>
</PROFILE>

That "NvApps.xml" file are usally located under both's your "C:\\ProgramData\\NVIDIA" and duplicated over "C:\\Windows\\System32".

By the way, you could use the procedure utilized for patch the profile by running the below updater for get the SLI working on Nvidia cards without the need to reboot the machine.

Edit: Added link to mediafire

SLI_Update_v3.5                                                                                                           SLI_Update_v3.5 ( with AA enabled )

Your corrected profile won't help with Anti-Aliasing though.

The profile linked in the first posting is basically the same you posted (plus the AA functionality)- In the end, nHancer is just an easy way to use that profile without having to fiddle with the XML file yourself.

I let anyone decide whether to fool around yourself with the profile database and risking it to stop working (if you accidently invalidate that file) or to use a simple tool for the same task.

For AA just add over;

<PROFILE Label="Mass Effect II">
<APPLICATION Label="MassEffect2.exe"/>
<PROPERTY Label="hybrid_rendering_mode" Value="0x00000001" Default="0x00000001" Itemtype="predefined"/>
<PROPERTY Label="multichip_rendering_mode" Value="0x02402005" Default="0x02402005" Itemtype="predefined"/>
<PROPERTY Label="aa_feature_bits" Value="0x080100C5" Default="0x080100C5" Itemtype="predefined"/>
<PROPERTY Label="aa_default" Value="0x00000027" Default="0x00000000"/>
<PROPERTY Label="gamma_correct_aa" Value="0x00020000" Default="0x00020000"/>
<PROPERTY Label="transparency_aa" Value="0x02400000" Default="0x00000000"/>
<PROPERTY Label="aa_selector" Value="0x10000000" Default="0x00000000"/>
<PROPERTY Label="ws_aa_fs_gamma" Value="0x00000002" Default="0x00000002"/>
</PROFILE>

I would also like know if there is a fix for this.  The shadows are way too heavy, almost completely black in some spots.  Nvidia GTS 250 here.

Not 196.21, that contains the malformed profile only.

The new beta drivers still have the wrong profile entry, and they were released today. I got SLI to work by renaming the game's EXE file to ut3.exe and forcing AA in the NVidia control panel.

The beta drivers only fixed the GPU overclocking bug, nothing else.

Renaming the exe is a very crude way. That's what profiles are there for: To change them.

Renaming the EXE to another game, then changing the profile for that game is very crude but it is simple and can easily be undone. Still, this doesn't change the fact that Bioware should have added such a basic setting to the game.

Thank you very much for the profile fix IKe0s, I really appreciate it. I was searching around last night trying to figure out why my second card was idle all the time, especially considering the nVidia drivers specifically stated support for ME2. This is great!

Awesome, thanks for the fixed profile Grestorn, and for the folks that don't know, that's *the* dude behind nHancer. :)

I actually used compatibility flag 80100C5 already for AA, but I had to force manual profile with 196.21 similar to what needed to be done pre-build 2.5.7 or AA wouldn't apply properly. Is that due to the malformed profile you're referring to in 196.21?

chizow: Exactly, the nVidia's profile wasn't being applied, because nVidia used the wrong executable in their profile.

And, you're welcome! :)

Got AA activated,through "nHancer".
Under "Tab:Compatibilty" use:"080100C5: Unreal Engine 3".

That's it;)

Anyway to turn off LensFlare without breaking object interactions?
LensFlare=False
works, but remove the blue halo rectangles overlaying the objects to interact it with... (Believe it, it is true...)

i used this nhancer sli enable and it ruined my FPS

i am running i7 with 2 x gtx295 and vista 32 bit. nvidia drivers that were released a couple of days ago.

disabling the SLI option for ME2 in nhancer FIXED my fps again. the antialiasing in the nhancer profile works fine tho, as long as sli is still disabled in nhancer also

Hm, I'm playing with 8xSQ on my two GTX 280. And enabling SLI makes a huge difference (positively), giving me about 60-80% better framerates, which I really need with 8xSQ. But I still have to reduce the resolution a bit to 1680x1050.

hey grestorn i noticed someone else complaining about this on your nhancer forum, sounds like the same problem as mine

sounds like if you want to use SLI right now you cant use antialiasing

and btw my nvidia drivers seem to be running me2 in sli once ive disabled it in nhancer profile. both cards are burning hot.

and thats with antialiasing on but without the massive frame drops that seems associated with turning sli on in nhancer

this is with the latest 2 day old beta drivers btw cant remember rev number

to me it looks like by default nvidia is using sli but when you enable sli in nhancer it ruins fps if you have antialiasing enabled

complex stuff, at least we got our mouse lag issues fixed now tho right? (check other thrreads)

anyway i thought this was info you might want to know

cheers

The driver only uses SLI if there's a profile for a game. And the profile has to match the executable - and that's where the profile included in 196.21 was faulty, the executable was wrong, so the profile wasn't even loaded.

To check if SLI is indeed applied in a game, I recommend to enable the SLI indicators (use the control panel for that, it's hidden in the menu on top of the window under "3D settings". If you use nHancer to enable the indicator, you have to reboot the system).

I can't reproduce the slowdowns you have. I tried to play without SLI yesterday, and it wasn't really fun.

What Anti-Aliasing mode are you using?

Great! that allowed me to safely enable AA :) now I'm playing in 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 (depending on the output, 42'' FullHD TV or 24'' 16/10 monitor) with 8xQ AA enabled on my GeForce GTX 260 :)

was just using the 4x that came with the profile, ill try some other ones and look at the indicator if i can get around to it but its not a huge issue for me cos i like my games smooth without aa most of the time anyway

i just tried it again with the nhancer profile and sli enabled etc and same problem again FPS dying. you got a great app and are onto a good thing getting AA going in me2 but theres something screwy going on with some of our setups

thanks for the help tho

edit: seems to be caused by AA and AF mate. no matter whether i enable AF in game or in nhancer doesnt matter. i like nhancer tho ;)

if i disable SLI i can use AA and AF without fps hit tho. isnt that strange

EDIT EDIT: its the nhancer SLI profile that causes the lag. i have to disable SLI in nhancer to fix the fps lag

edit edit edit edit: it might be the 196.34 drivers enabling sli in windows thats caused the lag, giving up for now, good luck .....

this is the last thing ill say, its NOT the nvidia drivers. resetting nhancer profile to default and setting normal sli stuff in nvidia control panel the game runs fine. just not with AA

i just realised i left AF4x on in the ME2 config. so all my testings been ****ed. this is why i dont like to start these things in the first place

i doubt my AF was the culprit anyway, its something to do with nhancer settings
