Dual casting

When I play ME3, I tend to use more powers than shoot bullets (you can call me a spammer). This would give me the opportunity to go on the field without any weapon (maybe a pistol holstered just in case), like a caster should be.
Obviously for balancing, dual casting would bring better cooldown and/or more powerful effects (duration, damage, ...)

Well... Mass Effect -is- space magic after all... so... sure, why not?

So how would this work so that the character can engage in combat without automatically drawing the weapon? I'd rather there not be an extra step to do that.

It makes no practical sense if the previous combat systems are any indication of what we might expect in ME:A. Especially if they keep global cooldowns.
And as to dual-wielding weapons... This is absolutely riddiculous. There's a reason, why you won't see dual wielding guns in real life.
And that's because shooting from a hip is absurdly impractical.

Dual casting is not rad enough - I present to you triple casting!!

After all is it said somewhere that you can't cast Biotic magic from a leg or that you can't strap an omni tool to a leg?.. I think not!

Personally, I hope we can play without weapons if we so chose. Not just never using them, but never even bringing them with us.

Stealth gameplay, or something similar to it. I would love to be able to play this game without killing a thing. It seems like it would be hard, which seems like fun.

While that would be interesting, it wasn't what I was thinking of. If I'm playing a power-centric (either tech or biotic) character, I don't want to be forced to carry a gun I'm never going to use.

So what you are saying is..instead of having weapons equipped by default like in Mass effect , to...be able to take them off and just use your power ? wich in a way..would make casting them faster .

Oh ok that would be awesome too.
I hope at least one of our ideas makes it to the final game.

Yeah. You know how in ME3, you can chose how many weapons you carry by unselecting the ones you don't want? Well, make zero weapons an option.

would have liked an Inventory..where you can unequip and carry your weapon . That whole have 4 guns on your back never made sense to me . And I rather pick a crow bar then a gun ![]()

If we can dual wield SMGs, I also want to be able to hold them sideways, like a true 1980s NYC gangbanger. Everything else would disturb the rule of cool too much.
As for powers (and seriously), that would mean going back to an ME1 cool-down mechanic, otherwise it wouldn't work. Not sure, depends on how the new mechanics will work overall I guess.

If you are playing with a light pistol, the cooldowns should be low enough to allow this. It is in the animation where it would be more complicated.

Will it be 2.6x the casting cost for 2.2x the effect?

Yes but you gain no advantage...Yeah. You know how in ME3, you can chose how many weapons you carry by unselecting the ones you don't want? Well, make zero weapons an option.

That's why I mentionned improved cooldowns. You could have a separate cooldown on each hand/omnitool.It makes no practical sense if the previous combat systems are any indication of what we might expect in ME:A. Especially if they keep global cooldowns.
Of course they'd have to balance so you can't make tech/biotic explosion every second

With a light pistol or smg and a 200% cooldown reduction, I can literally spam most of my biotics non-stop in ME3 so a further reduction seems redundant. Not taking a weapon into combat seems like a bit of a foolish thing to do when there's no downside to having it as backup. Even having your weapon holstered while throwing out biotics or tech seems like a silly thing to do. You don't need both hands to cast and the time it takes to get to your weapon (should you need it) could mean life or death.
I'm not talking about gameplay mechanics here but what I imagine it would be like if you were really going up against a bunch of gun wielding aliens hellbent on destroying you, would you really just leave your sidearm holstered while bullets were flying at you? I could maybe get on board with leaving your weapon hand down unless you were aiming/firing. I don't particularly like running around with my gun pointing out in front of me all the time.. although anyone in the military will tell you there is a reason for this too.
This is coming from someone who rarely fires his weapon in game.

you mean eezo bar ![]()
If we can have swords
scientific magic
and guns that cool down why the hell not have duel weapons!?
its a game my loves we don't have to get super realistic
I want to carry twin swords with some kind of element or even eezo coated around because you know (mercenary/ninja ftw
)

On the Paladin (sentinel), I never use my gun, my powers are more efficient (OK Snap Freeze is broken). Why would I care about bullets when I have an omni-shield, and Energy Drain that regen my shields and gives me DR ?With a light pistol or smg and a 200% cooldown reduction, I can literally spam most of my biotics non-stop in ME3 so a further reduction seems redundant. Need to drop shields on enemies ? Energy drain followed by snap freeze for CC
Need to kill an armored enemy ? Snap freeze to reduce armor and Incinerate for damage
Want to melee fight a Geth Prime to death ? Bash him with a fire omni-shield to set in on fire, Energy Drain to regain shield (and DR) and trigger a fire explosion... Rince, repeat, he's dead

Before they broke Snap Freeze, he was actually amazing with a shotgun.

I meant "broken" as too powerful. It's like a Warp that hit multiple enemies in a 10m cone... Across walls...Before they broke Snap Freeze, he was actually amazing with a shotgun.
