Whilst I agree with you on the sleaziness of this move, at the time they probably had no intention of doing this, so no dice.

Why would their intentions at the time matter?  They probably didn't intend dropping old gen consoles either.

I was actually convinced that BioWare had mentioned cosmetic items as unlockable from MP before, but it appears I was mistaken. In any case, my interpretation of what they've said was always that story content was not in play. I never thought that cosmetic stuff was off-limits.

Keep the pressure on. I feel they're testing the waters at this stage. Besides, unless the latest patch dramatically improves the netcode, this could back fire spectacularly. My last DAIMP experience was a horrible mess of black screens, disconnects, laggy gameplay. We then switched to Borderlands 2 for a lag free, glitch free MP experience.

Starts with releasing optional cosmetic content, then it becomes something more tangible such as a weapon or armour schematics, and so on thus eroding the barriers more and more.

You may have been right - I just flicked through half a dozen pages in the twitter thread and nowhere else (hardly an exhaustive search).  Interpretations....mine was that there was no crossover of any kind.  I think both of us were probably reading what we wanted to read.

I'm prepared to believe that that is not the case, for the moment, anyway.

I don't want to give the impression of being raging away at my keyboard (I'm actually working).  This isn't something that bothers me, yet.  I just have a sense of wry bemusement about the whole situation, when remembering August last year.

This whole week has been a pretty spectacular own-goal in terms of PR for Dragon Age.

Still, I really like the SP game, so that's something.

I am going to offer my services as well on PS4. I have a couple of Dragon calls I can use and take people to go kill a dragon.

@AarynFlynn @dragonage count for SP so my question is, IS the MP going to have ANY effect on the SP at all?

Aaryn Flynn ‏@AarynFlynn

@user @dragonage No gated content. But we do have some cool ideas for the future, even as we keep the experiences distinct.

From the twitter thread.  "Content" is an interesting term, very flexible - but if Aaryn Flynn can't be unequivocal and certain, then who can?

And these.  Still room for subjective interpretations, I guess, but that room is getting awfully tight.

All a bit beside the point, though.  It's done, and they won't be changing it.  Just pointing out that the people who attacked those like Iakus and myself and others leading up to and immediately following the MP announcement in August for being paranoid, delusional and anti-social are increasingly looking like they should apologise.  Or at the least, feel bad.

I've read all of those before, and to be honest I wouldn't take anyone responding on twitter as unequivocal. But I am in the same position as CronoDragon. The context of a lot of those tweets was that they were responding to the fears that something along the lines of what happened with Mass Effect would happen in Dragon Age. And that was the key concern at that time. Whereas offering one group of players cosmetic items that another group can't (or wont) access is something they do all the time so I personally have never seen it as a matter of concern.

But I can see how someone could see it differently and I'm not going to argue about it. I just don't think anyone lied or back peddled.

Whee, I had a fun lunch today. Met with a friend who also plays DAI and while I'm 'meh' and 'ugh' over this decision, she's absolutely ropeable! Her internet connection is dodgy at the best of times. She can usually get the DLC and patches since Origin does have a pause facility when her internet drops out or twitches and flickers, which it does every five minutes or so, but it's nowhere near stable enough for her to even think about playing MP. And she's one of these anally retentive types who has to have everything so she's furious they've locked SP content away behind MP. She had some very creative things to say about Bioware today. I wish I'd taken notes. Her creative cursing is an art form and I would have loved to have shared some of her more choice epithets with you.

The agents of the inquisition are based at Skyhold.

You can see them hanging around the ramparts, near the stables, in the garden, and so on.

You can involve them is war table missions across Ferelden and Orlais.

They have been there since day one.

If the agents bring back a few trophies to their base, why is this a problem?

The Inquisitor has certainly brought back enough assorted crap from around and about.

Answer: It's not a problem.

The agents complete multiplayer missions means they have some trophies to take back to base.

They don't complete those missions, means they don't have those trophies. Duh.

Something to whine about?

I don't think so, I have no sympathy for such entitled idiocy.

None.

So what if some MP-related bonuses affect the SP, especially if it's purely cosmetic?

This is a case of misplaced envy given that all DAI players have access to the same bonuses at their discretion.

I empathize with some people's completionist needs, even in the fashion department, but this is ridiculous.

The issue with ME was that MP affected SP in terms of STORY, a MAJOR gameplay element that is completely out of your control. If you didn't MP, you could NEVER see the "best" ending. I don't see how this compares to cosmetics or, potentially, a small trophy here and there.

In fact, this is no different than having to play a facebook game in order to get a DLC that adds an object to the game. Or should we now object that BioWare locks content behind those as well? How dare they use various promotional materials for their own game!!1111!!

Are you REALLY bringing up tweets that were mentioned prior? It was probably a decision made in light of various changes in studio.

If people are insisting that they are "going back on their word", then I recommend you immediately suspend any interactions with BioWare on any form of social media. The reason being that your bitching is only going to make them less likely to communicate in the future.

No really..back off and stop playing the victim given that you have OPTIONS. Ugh.

Why is never the SP who infect MP? I'd like to have stuff unlok in MP only if you do stuff in SP. If MP have to impact the SP, than so the contrary.

The promise was no contenct will unlock into SP playng MP. No matter if is no story content. Is still content. SP content. BioWare flat out lied, no way around it. If they don't know how to be clear in their statemants, is not the player fault.

As with most decors, those things are huge and feel out of place in Skyhold (especially those "fabergé" eggs everywhere).
That said, its nice that MP achievements receive some recognition in SP. Now how about Isabelas alt hat ... or better yet Isabela? ;)

MP has nothing to gain from SP, given that SP revolves around the player character and this is an RPG.

Unless of course you want your MP characters to wear the Skyhold outfit?

That's why she said with an experienced team. No, I don't believe for a minute anyone who's never played MP before could take a Level 1 character with Level 1 gear and go solo the dragon.

It's not gonna happen. I've been playing DAIMP for 8 months and, frankly, I don't think I could solo the dragon with a Level 1 character with starter gear. Honestly speaking, I don't think I'd make it to Zone 5 to even face the dragon with that set-up.

But a new player can absolutely go Quick Match a Routine Fereldan Castle game, stumble on three other people, and if those three other people have been playing this MP at all (highly likely), then they can help you along to victory. And if you hate human interaction, I can almost guarantee you will hear nothing but silence in that lobby anyway because that's largely been my experience and seems to corroborate with many other MP players. So, you can easily think of those three other people as SP party members that you can't control and are running on the AI tactics.

This is also why a bunch of us are posting in here to be nice and offer help. Because if you get in with someone who's already been playing/knows the MP/has better gear, you'll be fine for beating the dragon. If you're on PS4 at all, I'd be more than happy to unlock the content for you. I did so for two folks earlier tonight and - despite neither having any MP experience to speak of - neither one even died tonight. They survived, one even seemed to really enjoy it, and when either got low on health, I tossed a healing mist grenade on them and all was well.

Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Sorry, PC here but thanks. :)

Guys, not sure if this is the right place (I think so, DragonRacer directed us here in the other topic). If someone needs to kill the Dragon on PC and needs help, just ping me. I usually play GMT mornings or GMT later nights (0-1 at night).

Like I said before, I'm mostly indifferent to this so I decided to put it in terms of something I wouldn't be so indifferent about: armour. Imagine if another MP event unlocked a special armour in SP for your character. Given the sparse number of armours and their rather repetitive nature across classes I believe I would be more than a little mad about it. I imagine it's the same for people who really enjoy decorating their castle and, to be honest, there are far more decoration options in SWTOR.

If I'm around at that time I'll PM you. Cheers!

Let's face it, if MP introduced a way to get different hairstyles and different Skyhold costumes

then that might give grounds for legitimate upset.

Though maybe that would be a way to generate some more MP interest BioWare? (cough)  ;)    no, not really...

I tried it solo on routine with a level 6 character with Barrier and I didn't even get close.

I would not call a first-time player at level 6 experienced in the game sense.  You level up your characters in MP just as you do in SP.  You'll see higher constitution, cunning and willpower on MP players that have been playing and promoting.

All this to say:  I'm happy to help anyone who shares platform (X One) and needs it.  I understand how you all feel and have particular empathy for those that truly can't do it due to no live connection, etc.  I suspect it will all eventually be offered without the MP component.

Tell her to send me a friend request. I'm sure we could work something out, like taking the dragon down to 5% health, then letting her join and killing it. She'd have to be in that game for only a minute and since I'd be hosting, her internet wouldn't be a problem.

I can understand console players who don't have a membership for online gaming being upset, but if you're on PC, there really shouldn't be a problem. And I'd like to remind everyone that Bioware has been doing this sort of thing since DA2. There was some casual little browser RPG that you could play to earn items in the game. And if they think it's a good idea, they'll do it again. Your little circlejerk here isn't going to change that.

THere's really no difference between your examples and this. Only whether you personally care about it or not.

And btw, is this the part where I say "I told you so?"   ;)

You can if you like,

though as someone that welcomes this kind of integration it's clearly not troubling me as much as it may you.

I would expect DA4 (and probably ME:A) to be no less integrated and possibly more so.

Oh, at this point I fully expect it.  Heck I've been predicting MEA will be even more integrated than ME3 was.  TO the point where it won't be a "math error" that pushes you into MP for optimal outcomes.

But Bioware made assurances last year.  Which I predicted would not be honored.  And I was laughed at, again (I made similar predictions with ME3, and that EMS fiasco was exactly what I thought would happen)  So now we know precisely how much Bioware respects the SP fan.
