So I just spent about 8 hours leveling an archer from 1-18 and I still don't have the stupid props. The only way I could find a match was by quick match > random and only managed to get to Ferelden twice and one time, I lost my connection and the other time it was just me an another guy and he bailed (or lost his connection) when things got hairy... so no dragon fight yet.
I spent the time trying to get as good as I could so I wouldn't be holding anyone back and it turns out I don't suck for only putting in a few hours and having crap gear. I was even MVP a couple of times on threatening. I tried to stick with the same group but people kept disappearing off or I'd lose my damn connection again. I also tried setting up my own match in Ferelden Castle and waited and waited and waited but no-one came.
As for MP itself, it is sooo repetitive, listening to my character say, "So shall we go for a drink after this? That's what friends do, right?" or "oh...wow. that's amazing." in a voice that makes me think it's not amazing at all... whatever it is he's talking about because I have no idea.
Thankfully most people had their mics off but there were a couple of guys I kept getting stuck with who wouldn't stop babbling to each other about what was going on. They would set up a match and then sit there for five minutes chatting while going through their inventory or deciding whether to change class or comment on the other players in the group once the match was underway.
My conclusions on MP. Not very difficult on the first 2 difficulty levels. It's like being a level 4 character (just 4 abilities) but you get stronger and if you're lucky your gear gets a bit better. It's a slog to be honest doing the same thing over and over and if you lose your connection for any reason you get no XP and can't reconnect to the same group so you might have just wasted the last 15 minutes if this happens during round 5.
On the plus side, I'm not worried about being bad in MP anymore. Even though I play on hard in singleplayer, I didn't know if I would be any good at it. On the downside, it's not really much fun... for me at least. You can't say I didn't give it a good try though. I'll take someone up on that offer of setting a match up in Ferelden Castle now please (if anyone's still willing after this semi-rant!). I'm available from 6pm-2am BST and play on PC. Just PM me a time and either you or I can set up the match and invite the other.
ETA: By the way can anyone tell me what the controller button is to say "Look over here!" I must've missed it during proving grounds and then after pressing all the buttons and scouring the Internet, I can't find a controller layout for multiplayer. It's not even in the damn official manual. I managed to find the "Retreat!" button on the d-pad but that was it.
