It's not a cosmetic addition. It's a principle.

Agreed. It was easy enough for me to unlock this through a Routine solo with a level 18 Avvar, but it is a horrible slippery slope. Next it'll be a "useless cosmetic" unlock behind several Perilous runs, or completing a weekend challenge. Then it'll be equipment or schematics. Hell, they're already trending back to "horse armor" dlc.

Wait, is there actually a discussion going on as to whether a few worthless props/trophies in DA's version of a MySims area is considered "SP content"?

You should know by now that entitlement is a chief hallmark of this fanbase.

There's actually been quite a few requests for further customization options for Skyhold.  Now there are some, but they are locked behind MP.

Haven't they also included customization options through (free) patches and SP-dedicated DLC?

A reminder: these play absolutely no part in the combat or the narrative, the actual "SP content", only in optional homebase aesthetics. I'd see creating a little bit of a stink over this if the presence of the dragon head impacted the judgment sequences or something. But, seriously, like this? This is the peeled skin of small potatoes.

The only other addition I'm aware of are the thrones for having registered copies of other DA games.

"Optional homebase aesthetics" are still SP content.  One that people have complained as being rather spartan I might add.

And this kind of behavior needs to be nipped in the bud now.  Especially in light of their reassurances pre-release.  If this kind of douchebaggery is considered acceptable, it will only get worse.

... douchebaggery? Really? That's where this has gone?

The MP is fun, you should give it a try.

Or just sit here and complain about a cosmetic prop. Whatever floats your boat.

I did.  A couple times (before this "you need to play MP to get SP stuff", even).  It's boring as hell.

Yep.

I could use "dishonesty" if you want a real word.  But I think" douchebaggery" sounds more fun.

It's also kind of douchey to say people who play MP shouldn't get any SP bonuses because you don't wan't to play it.

Bingo.

I'm new to the MP side of this game. I have no illusions about not being particularly good at it. I've got a lot to learn about being a good teammate. I know this, and I'll work at it, and I'll get better (I hope). But a friend and I went and killed a dragon in an old Fereldan Fortress yesterday and I had a blast. Unlocking the new Skyhold decor was secondary to the fun of it.

Not if that's what they promised from the start.

Sure they should.  They should get single player bonuses when they play the SP game.  And they should  get Multiplayer bonuses for playing the MP game.

but they should not get single player bonuses for playing the multiplayer game.  Nor should they get multiplayer bonuses for playing the single player game.

How long did it take?  15 minutes or so?  Less time than a "gopher" mission in SP?

Why not?

Because that's what we were assured going back even before the game was released.  Heck that's a big reason why I decided to risk disappointment again and purchase the game.

I have zero interest in MP.  I don't think my enjoyment of a game should be dependent on others, nor do I think other people's enjoyment of the game should depend on me.  I don't want any SP content locked behind MP, and vice versa.

Now I feel I've been lied to yet again.

No. It's douchery insert SP content to unlock playng MP when it was promised it would not happen.

What of making MP stuff unlock only after completing the game and every side content and side quest in SP for two run? Why this never happen?

I'm really curious to hear anyone from Bioware try and justify this move.

The spin should be enough to make anyone dizzy.

We played routine. My legionnaire was pretty squishy -- level 11 bugged to level 3. I understand this bug is a known thing with the legionnaire, though, so whatever. I wasn't complaining. My friend had a level 19 Keeper, so we got to the dragon in pretty good time, and that took awhile because she kept flying away, heh. I think it took just over an hour all told.

And no, singleplayer content is NOT locked behind MP.

So now we know what Bioware's word is worth.

I had barely played MP before yesterday.

Within five matches, I had found myself with a decently leveled party through a Routine difficulty quick match and killed a High Dragon

This isn't exactly hard to unlock.

Dude, it's a bunch of crap that doesn't touch the combat or the story, the actual SP content.  No bonuses, no new missions, no added consequences.

No impact.

I think the act of calling something so insanely trivial "douchebaggery" carries its own implications.

I love dragons, is the main reason I bought this game series in the first place, and to find that I can't place dragon statues and accessories in my skyhold unless I play a multiplayer that I'm not wanting to play because I'm not into that type of gaming, seems totally unfair to me, especially being that they promised not to link the two things together. If it had been any other kind of content I wouldn't care so much, but it's dragons and that just makes it more painful for me.

My story is similar. All I had was a level 6 Keeper from playing in November until yesterday when I was trying to get the Dragon Decor.  I own my success in getting it to a particularity great Katari player who soloed the High Dragon at the end when out 4-man party went down by 3 members.

First of all, just because something is fun for you doesn't mean it's fun for someone else. I'm pretty sure that there's a bunch of things I personnaly consider fun that you would find boring as hell. I tried MP. It is not fun for me. At all.

Bingo.

I'm new to the MP side of this game. I have no illusions about not being particularly good at it. I've got a lot to learn about being a good teammate. I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I'm not against MP for others, I'm against MP for myself.

And what I'm really against, and I fear is beginning to happen here, is the industry going toward more and more SP/MP mixed game. It's a trend that seems to be really popular and it seems to bring money. Now do I want Bioware to get money to keep working on their games? Sure! Do I mind MP content? Nope, as long as it is separate. But what I'd like, is to keep playing my single-player game without having to bother with multi-player content. If I wanted to play multi-player content, I'd play an MMO.

Now, would I still buy the next Dragon Age IP if it was SP mixed with MP content? I'm not going to be an hypocrite. I still would. Unless of course it also became a huge empty map with lots of grinding and little to no story content, because I play for the story. But would it hinder my enjoyment of the game? It most certainly would. There's a reason why SWTOR is far from my favorite game, despite being in a universe I love.

Another instance of Bioware pulling a d*** move and yet another thread filled with the Bioware Defense Force eager to prove that it's the customer's fault for not wanting to be treated like dirt time and time again.  This is just getting sad.  Look, the fact remains that it does not, effing matter if the items are cosmetic or not.  It is still content for SP that you can only get from playing mutliplayer. Let me repeat that sentence.

It is content for SP you can only get from playing Multiplayer.

Ladies and gents, that sentence should never even be uttered in casual conversation about video games,  let alone  come up in the board room during game development meetings at Bioware HQ.  When in the history of video games, is it ever acceptable for this to occur?  The answer to this question is a resounding NEVER.  You just don't do this.  Multiplayer and Single player should remain unequivocally separate.  No ifs ands or buts.  Stop ****ing devil's advocating this nonsense and realize that this is not acceptable.
