Add me to the list of pissed off fans.  I'm going to have buy a new system and REBUY a game for likely overpriced DLC that is probably not even lengthy?  I'm in no rush to do that.  When I do get a new system I'll patiently wait for Inquisition to hit the $5 bin.  You can just wait around for years for the DLC to be purchased, or maybe I'll forgo it all together by then.  The devs should have made an exclusive disc expansion of some length to pull this if they were going to leave old gen behind.  Its ludicrous.

I see some people are torn, some even have current gen but feel bad. I don't know how many of us have current gen but had the game for last gen I am that category as I've stated when the game came out I didn't have a PS4 and I was perfectly content with the PS3 version...mmm mostly the lack of scars did annoy me, but I digress. But getting a PS4 I had NO plans to buy a new version and now their telling me I have to...I don't have cash lying around for this, and even if I did it's still upsetting because all the time I spent in my game now feels...worthless. Bioware has made my game worthless and all the hours sunk, now I don't know how everyone feels about DLC me I'm not the biggest fan for any number of reasons plenty of people have stated. I feel DLC is a cheap ploy to get more money and I feel patches and fixes are a cheap way for developers to sell unfinished buggy games (this didn't happen often during PS2 era). But Dragon Age and Mass Effect were 2 of the only series I actually ever cared about DLC for because I love the series though, and the add-ons to varying degrees...given that these are two of the only series I care about the DLC for I am going to make a rather big noise about this debacle and I encourage the rest of you too as well. Even if you have current gen and have the game for it, does your friend? I'm sure you know people who love the series as much as you and are STUCK on current gen, the noise isn't just for yourself it's for them SOUND OFF!

They should at least upgrade old gen users for DAI so they don't have to purchase the game again. That's wrong.

Wait, so when is DLC allowed to be an integral part of the game, and when may it rightfully only be an addon that adds nothing to the full experience?

I'm getting confused about the proper sequence of outrage again.

It is integral when you miss out on story and lore that is canon if you don't buy it.

What happens if I purchased DLC packs on my PlayStation®3 system or Xbox 360 console?

  • PlayStation® systems:
    • If you purchased the Jaws of Hakkon or Spoils of the Avvar DLC pack on your PlayStation®3 system, you can download them on your PlayStation®4 system using the same SEN/PSN account at no additional charge.
    • If your savegame from your PlayStation®3 system included these DLC packs, you must have them on your PlayStation®4 system to load your imported savegame data.
  • Xbox consoles:
    • If you purchased the Jaws of Hakkon or Spoils of the Avvar DLC pack on your Xbox 360 console, you can download them on your Xbox One console using the same gamertag at no additional charge.
    • If your savegame data from your Xbox 360 console included these DLC packs, you must have them on your Xbox One console to load your imported savegame data.

sounds like they had/have a back-up plan

yeah with the exception of not everyone can go buy a NEW copy, not everyone can go buy a new console; the back-up plan isn't really a plan if the fans don't let it be.

Companies don't care about last gen because it's always about the current gen and then the future. Pretty soon there aren't even going to be anymore PS3 or 360 games made aside from Madden NFL and the usual NBA games, which aside from these devs and their publishers pretty much already consider last gen obsolete.

Since DLC became such a common aspect of computer gaming that it turned into a form of support for a product.

They're not gonna change their stance if the reason is because last gen can't handle it anymore

That would be their feigned reason, I assure you.  If they got the game itself to work they can get the DLC to work.  If not, then it's a matter of developer incompetence.  Not hardware or software limitations.

Except for the fact that last gen versions had a lot of issue on it's own

And I like how you think you know more about development than game devs

Agreed it appears someone started a petition I suggest we get the word out, hell I suggest we spam Bioware...I would also suggest more malicious things right now but I'm still running on blind fury so we won't go there.

It is bull.  If they put it on the system they should support it for the system.  They charged full price for it.  I would be mad, but I'm done with Dragon Age as a series after this game so I don't care.

What does whether or not they're going to make more dlc for a game have to do with charging full price for the game itself?

Depends on what's done, I can think of a few things that would get their attention...not that I have the ability for what I'm thinking of but you get my point.

The only way to get results is to treat the company with respect. Being immature and rude is absolutely no way to get what you want, and it is (as proven on multiple occasions) a surefire way to get them to close themselves off from fans and respect what you want less.

Regardless, (I believe) the decisions deciding what consoles get what and how things should be sold/marketed are handled at publisher level. Harassing Bioware will get you nothing when EA is the one calling these shots. I'm not going to pretend to know everything about how this works (because I don't), but if EA decides that spending resources to produce content for last gen consoles is not financially worth it, it's not going to.

Yeah, it screws over last gen players; it definitely does that. Your focus should be on minimizing damage. Perhaps a petition so people who have to upgrade consoles don't have to buy another copy of the game? That might get results. To be competitive, developers have to focus on making the best content they can for current gen because that's where the demand is. And if E3 taught us anything, it's that last gen is considered obsolete and Yarny is really cute.

Well it's not like politiness is going to achieve any results either. Have already tried that quite long time with patches and BW pretty much has ignored all petitions etc. made for them. They don't simply care. So getting mad and immature nor being polite and calm will not achieve anything. Only thing that could would be something drastic, getting the issue somehow viral, large scale boycot, or something similar that actually forces BW to act, since otherwise they won't.

To be brutally honest, DAI should never have been made for last gen platforms. Knowing the release date (and it shifted) I made sure I upgraded to a current machine FOR Inquisition. I saved for it, and made sure I got in for the launch.

Making this game playable on last gen machines has pretty clearly had an impact on the game. Just go back and look at those videos from E3, Pax and Gamescom in the couple of years leading up to launch. Just observe how full of NPCs and alive the landscape seems.

Compare that to release. Barren landscapes with a barely a handful of NPCs to be seen. Barely any cutscenes in the game at all. A lot of the gae just feels half-finished and under populated.

The levels of NPCs and other the concepts mooted in development could have been possible on PS4, Xbox One and PC. But not last gen. To maintain parity with the older machines has meant to gimp the game for current gen. When you look at a title like the Witcher 3 - dozens of NPCs with ambient dialogue in ever town or settlement, cutscenes for every conversation - it's easy to see what could have been achieved with DAI. During development the two titles looked on par with each other.

One didn't have to accomodate older machines. One did.

It's a little shitty for those who bought the game on older systems, yes. I personally thing a discount on the base game should also be part of the Upgrade Plan. But really, there was a full year of the new console generation before DAI came out. That was plenty time to save for a new machine. The game mattered that much to me. That's why I saved for a console to play it on.

If they did care about last-gen console gamers then Microsoft would not have waited 3-4 years for the backwards compatibility update/upgrade, which imho should have been accessible from the start considering the steep price people have to save to pay for just one of these machines I don't think being allowed to play a 360 game on an XBONE at launch would be asking too much since obviously they HAVE the technology, they are just being extremely exclusive and selective with how and whom they share it with (Gold $ paying members + only a select list of 360 titles).

Also these companies know that the people with money will continue to buy next-gen regardless of whether or not they played last gen. So as long as they can make money off us by making multi-generation/console launches, these companies will use similar tactics in the future to coerce gamers to 'upgrade' to a next-gen/current-gen console.

Actually that's incorrect. Fundamentally. They did not HAVE the tech, at that time. Xbox 360 games cannot be played natively through the Xbox One's operating system. They have worked fr the past year or so in creating a specialist emulation program which effectively spoofs a fully functional 360. Whilst the emulator is running the console believes this is a genuine 360, and treats it as such. You can unlock achievements. You can play against other 360s (or spoof 360s) online.

It's taken time to come up with this software and get it functioning in a fashion which works. It is also still in the beta phase.
