So I was thinking about the Fade choice today, and was a little unsatisfied with how Hawke/ Warden Contact seems to have their story end... but then I had an idea. What if there was a DLC where you played as whoever you left in the Fade? I don't have very many details thought up in my head, but you would presumably start the DLC by battling The Fear Demon as Hawke/ Warden Contact, possibly killing it (or maybe it would leave for another fight later). Then you would have to navigate your way out of the Fade (with the usual Fade sidequests). They could even make sidequests unique to who you left behind; for example, Hawke could encounter the spirit of Leandra, Alistair could encounter Duncan, etc. That would add replay value.

I also don't imagine it would be too expensive, VA wise they'd only have 5 to bring back (M!Hawke, F!Hawke, and the Wardens). They could also just re-use the Fade map from Here Lies The Abyss if they really wanted to. But anyways...

     Thoughts everyone?

Not sure about actually playing as them, but I'd like a follow-up for that story element for sure. A Weisshaupt DLC could elaborate on Hawke, the Warden ally, and the Hero of Ferelden's cure for the calling, what's going on with the Wardens (civil war?) as well as the deep roads and Kal-Sharok, and more lore on lyrium, dwarves, darkspawn, and the Old Gods all at once. I'd like a DLC like that.

I have to correct you on the number of VAs though. They'd need them for your spirit ideas too.

Haha good point about the VA's. Also they'd have to bring the one back who voiced the Fear Demon, probably.

You know... you might be onto something. But I wouldn't necessarily want to play as the person left in the Fade. Maybe you could play as a Fade spirit who latches onto the person left behind and your task is to help them escape the Fade.

In the first encounter of the DLC, you'd encounter the Person Left Behind (PLB) and you'd have to distract Nightmare to help them escape. Your powers of Fade manipulation are great, however (you are the protagonist, after all), so once the PLB has escaped, you disengage and make your own escape, only to rendezvous with the PLB a short time later. After a short conversation, you elect to guide them out of the Fade. Maybe you're a Spirit of Wisdom and know all about your surroundings but have little desire to leave the Fade yourself. Together, you and the PLB (and potentially other Fade spirit allies) overcome obstacles and complete side quests culminating in the PLB's escape from the Fade. Perhaps you have to defeat Nightmare in a huge Fade boss battle.

Maybe the reward for completing this DLC would be arcane glass for the Inquisitor's quarters (star maps?) and eerie glowing decor for Skyhold.

It would work!

Hmm... yeah, there could be other playable Spirits to join your party too, depending on your Worldstate (The Spirit of Faith who possessed Wynne, and even Justice if you killed Anders back in DA2). And while it would be nice to see the PLB escape (of course they'd have to escape after Cory is defeated), I wouldn't even mind if they died... I'd just love to see some closure. And yes, I love that idea about the Arcane glass, and especially the decor (of course I always use the Tevinter decor, I don't know if I'd be willing to change  :P ).

So a five minute DLC where you get killed by Nightmare?

Not necessarily. The wording on the choice says "(...) will likely die". That leaves room for them not dieing, as I don't believe we see them go down in a cutscene (and even then, in DA combat you tend to get knocked down a lot).

Can you really imagine either of them surviving against what is essentially the embodiment of fear. All it needs to do is to sit down and we have a Warden crêpe.

I... actually imagining that made me laugh out loud

But I think that was why @berelinde suggested you play as a helpful spirit rather than the PTB themself... I would imagine we would distract the Fear Demon to let the PTB escape.

I suggest pepper spray - think about how long it takes for it to clean all its contact lenses.

LOL!

Yeah, the PLB's survivability against Nightmare was the reason I suggested the Fade spirit protagonist rather than playing as Stroud/Alistair/Loghain/Hawke. Then again, I kinda liked the Fade sequence in DAO where you learned different shapes and got new abilities with them. But the idea might be more an investment in terms of resources than they're willing to commit to a DLC.
