How important the donation boxes at camp?

As you acquire allies for the final battle with the Dark Spawn, their representatives show up at your camp with donation boxes.  How important is it to give runes to the mages?  Money to Arl Eamon's troops?  Deep Mushroom for the Dalish?  My inclination is to utilize what money I gather to equip my PC and her team members.  Is there any special benefit to making significant donations to the allies?

The only known benefit is that it is a way to gain experience for your character. It does nothing else.

Just FYI, the most cost efficient way to get the xp is to buy elfroot at the Dalish Camp and then give them to the Dalish rep at your camp.

Thanks for the quick response!  Another dumb question on my part, but what's the benefit of XP?  More skills?

With XP comes higher levels.

With higher levels comes more armor, weapons, stat increases, usable skills.

With more everything comes more kicking of the country baked hams.

Saying that, as you level up, so do enemies, so they have access to better talents/spells etc too.

Even if you are at a high level, enemies can seem harder - most notably mages.

The donation boxes also effect the number/quality of allies at the final battle...

They say that they effect the number/quality of allies... but I've never seen that.  I religiously donated my first few playthroughs, but didn't notice a difference in allies and didn't really need the allies much anyway....

-snip- country baked hams.

Mmmm. Baked ham. Sorry, what was this thread about?

So, I guess I shouldn't have tossed the junk I didn't want in the donation boxes. Woops.

There is so much deliberation about if it changes the number of allies, the equipment of allies etc etc.

I can honestly say throughout my numerous playthroughs I have never noticed a difference If donating or not.

A mod? A MOD?! For levelling?

It's easy to level up with these boxes (particularly the Dalish with Elfroot) BUT Where is the fun? Go out and do some side quests - really earn your XP!

i did sidequests, i didnt make it to lv 25 without mod,

i also dont think actually playing DA is particularly fun, its the building of the avatar i find cool,

and that is only possible to build at each new level
