Just a little question as this is my first time on a Bioware hype train. I it usual for Dragon Age or Mass Effect games that the actual romances or squadmates are confirmed before the release? If so, I would really like to avoid it.

All romances and squad mates/ advisors for DAI were confirmed pre-launch.

Squadmates are generally a big part of the marketing in these games, so we'll certainly know a lot about them before the game's release. I do hope they tone down the romantic aspect though.

N7 day will likely reveal more.

Which was steeeeeyoopid, in my opinion. Leave a little bit to be discovered this time, BioWare.

We learned about Miranda and Thane before Mass Effect 2 was released, we learned about Javik and EDI before Mass Effect 3 was released. The trailer already showed us that one of our squadmates is an N7 graduate trained in Heavy Pistols. I am fairly certain that we will learn more. Most likely on N7 Day or at Gen Con 2015.

To be fair, while we did know all of the companions and romance options prior to release for DA: I, I think that this was the only game that this happened.  Of course, since it's also the most recent game, perhaps it will happen this way for ME:A.  For me, I like knowing.  I can understand why people don't.  In a perfect world, they could announce the information and then it could live safely behind spoiler tags so those who want to avoid it can, but I recognize that this is probably not realistic.

Well, I would like to know what squadmates we have, but romances no. It would feel more realistic to not know. For example being turned down by a character who reveals to be lesbian would be awkward.

If memory serves correctly, every BioWare game that I've played allows you to romance or get into a relationship with somebody.

Characters are a important part of BWs games. The guys from marketing will not forget that. Also, every squadmate (or in that case, every companion) from Inquisiton has been revealed before launch. Hell, there were trailers, teasers, companion days, etc.

All of which I missed because I totally wasn't intending on buying the game. I stumbled upon 'the Keep' like a week before release, and then I pre ordered.

I think missing out on the pre release hype made me much more content with the game.

I should leave these parts of the forum. Hmm.
