Would anybody mind or be in favor of a protagonist with an accent?

Accents are like spices - everyone likes own variety and some hate all of them. It's too hard to add just the right amount of the right taste fitting everyone's preferences.

With regards to the OP...

I personally would like to see them step out of the norm for a voice actor. We usually get Main Characters in games that are either North American or from the UK. I would like to see them take a more obscure sounding accent and use that person for the main character. The world is full of accents that could give us a unique yet easy to understand accent. But this is a low priority for me. I really just want GOOD strong acting from my voice actors. Let them run with the role, too often we get wooden acting because it appears like the direction they get is always 'can you say it again but this time with less emotion?'

Yes. A shining example of this wooden voice acting is Geralt whose level of excitement has about as much life as a corpse.

I mean the character could have been telling Yennifer how much he loves her and then in the next sentence ask her if she had any raw meat and I don't think anyone would notice the difference. The same thing happened with Adam Jensen in Deus Ex: Human Revolution and in the original Deus Ex. That monotone is really creepy. I know the intent is so that the players can make the decision of how the character feels. The character is supposed to be a schizoid brick, except in both cases the character is predefined. He's male, for one thing. I'm female and can't self-insert so I'm an observer watching a bad movie actor. Plus I do like to hear some emotion in the voice acting of the main character anyway.

Maybe I'm not cut out for RPGs.

People bringing up the wooden voice acting do have a good point, one of the reason's I almost always play female Shepard over male Shepard was male sounded much more wooden more often than female, same with me preferring the british voice over the american voice in DAI. That is a legit concern. Not sure how they would fix it though since it's one of those things either way people are going to complain about. Maybe there is a happy middle ground but I don't think the company has found it quite yet but I hope they do since I do like the idea of picking from some different voices if a voiced player character must be a thing.

I guess protagonist with different hmm english speaking area's accents would be most likely like different american accents, british accents, scottish and so on. But personally I'd hope to get accent from countries whose first language isn't english. French, austrian, danish, indian and so on. I'd really like to have voice like that for protagonist, but maybe it would force character to be locked as one nationality based on voice and some might not like it.

For male: Sean Connery

I wouldn't have a problem with him voicing the male lead

For female: Jo Wyatt

A big yes. She did an excellent job voicing sarcastic femHawke

Only if long white hair and facial scars are available in the CC. If so, I've found my NovaGuard.

I don't mind accents if they are good.   Accents can also be rather annoying.   Preferably they give us a couple voices as options as in DA:I.

As for me... She was Ser Cauthrien long before she was Traynor, or Inquisitor.   But she did great in all of those.

I would love to see the woman who does the Sith Warrior voice in SWTOR, personally.

I didn't mind the Canadian accent for male Shepherd or the standard American accent for FemShep, and I think it would be cool to have other options, but I want them to be done by native speakers where the don't sound like a parody.

A big vote no for either an aussie or kiwi accent.  Its bad enough that I have to live with them day in day out, I really don't want them in my video games  ;)

I'd actually like to see an accent that reflects the story, if we are talking about  long distance travel with a contained population then the general accent of that population will merge and take each others quirks to become something new. It would be a challenge for the writers and the voice actors but Id like to see something like that.

For male PC;

Vladimir Kulich: I can't get over the fact that his Viking voice is the bomb.

For female PC;

Martina Lotun. Am I the only one that finds her accent to be very warrior-like?

Oh, we're just listing accents now?

Eh... Give me someone from South Africa. I like the, for lack of a better term, jagged quality of their accents.

Female Russian and a male Tony Montana ish Latin accents could be so much fun. Would be more fun to hear than typical US/Brit ones :)

I agree with myself. Erm seriously here's some examples.

Andre Sogliuzzo for male. Just give him some "yayo" i guess. To get in character :P

Simon Templeman is awesome too. But probably suits to more serious NPC than PC. Hopefully to someone not designed as a "we needed boss so we altered him for the lewt" this time. Still would be an awesome choice for renegade/serious PC, can't think any better on that.

Tara Platt

or Raija Baroudi for female.

Yeah Alix is a good voice actress I hope they do use her in some capacity in Andromeda either as the female protagonist voice or the science nerd on your team. Especially given how well she pulled it off as Traynor she pulled off all that technobabble  just like a Star Trek veteran

It took me awhile to figure out where I've heard his voice; Father from Equilibrium.

Now, I'm not suggesting that both the male and female VA's have accents. I just think it'd be yet another unique differentiation in the experience to have one of them with a distinguishing accent.  (not that it's necessary in anyway whatsoever)

Whether it'd be a bad ass British chick we speak through, or a grizzled Tom Hardy clone, I would definitely be down to experience ME:A with either.

Depends on the accent.

I was just about to suggest Amrish Puri, until I read that he died in 2005. He played Mola Ram, the main villain in Indiana Jones and The Temple of Doom.

Shame...he had a Javik tier badass voice, and would have been good casting as either a squadmate or a villain.

On the one hand I would love this because it would spice things up.

On the other hand I'd have a hard time trying to figure why my black or asian pc might have a scottish accent, for example.

So, there would need to be choices in accent. But that would entail 4 different voice actors again.

I would like an accent, but I'd also like there to be only 1 male, 1 female VA. So, the accent would need to be from a part of the world whose population was diverse enough to reasonably account for a variety of PC's to have it.

I don't see what the problem is.
