Can't say I'm surprised by just how tasteless the image is, that's the aim of such publicity stunts. Of course they have no appreciation for the men who fought and died in that brutal fighting. Another example of that white cisgender male privilege.

What's disrespectful is treating the 1000+ gay soldiers who fought in the Battle of Iwo Jima as second class citizens for the last 70 years. If any of them still survive, I suggest you ask them how they feel about it. Don't hide your bigotry behind false outrage about a war you had nothing to do with.

There were 70 000+ US Marines. 1.43% is a conservative estimate. It was likely more.

The indignity they had to suffer after fighting for their country was criminally unjust.
