It's never natural selection. That's what I dislike about the Darwin Award description, these idiots who kill themselves in stupid ways aren't eliminating anything undesirable from the gene pool. Not to mention that half of these people likely have already spread their genes.
In fact I recall a study that showed that people with better education don't end up having kids because they wait too long until they are financially stable. Given the statistics of all the poor non-educated families who have children (and how many they have) I think the survey is right.
