I can tell it's a Java problem and I've read the PRC forum that other's have had the problem too, but no solutions have been found. I also posted on the new vault page, but nothing has come of it yet. Does anyone have either an older version (I checked the links, they all seem to link back to the newest version) or a way to make it work?

Here's a link to the program in question.

No. I never used any advanced character creator or stuff like that. I´m realy just into creating things rather then "ENJOY" some stuff :D ;)

I would love to learn but have a time-sink on my hands in the form of a two year old. XD

I had a problem with LETO once that I opened the bic file by "open by" and choosing LETO.

It's a long shot, but do you first start your leto and then open .bic?

I will try looking through .xml databse of other in NWN to see older versions of it.

EDIT: how about: http://neverwinterva...wn1/other/1417/

EDIT2: or http://neverwinterva...nwn1/other/707/

maybe: http://neverwinterva...nwn1/other/795/

perhaps: http://neverwinterva...nwn1/other/961/

Did you right click on the CC and run it as an admin? I found after some java update i had to start running the program that way in order for it to work properly.

I ran as an admin and I also tried compatibility mode. I also tried running the CC and the actual program, both as admin. It doesn't work on either of my computers, win 7 or win 8. I'm sure it will work no probs in an xp machine, but I don't have one anymore.

Werelynx, I haven't tried Leto yet. I will try it soon, but the PRC Character creator was so much nicer to use (well if it worked hehe).

Mines running on a win 8 machine under compatibility mode as an admin and it works fine. Is java up to date?

Compatibility and admin usually work fine. Java being up to date, however, isn't always benificial to programs that were coded to work with an older version of java. It's been a number of years since CC was created and the version of Java in use at the time was Java 6. You could try going with the latest update of that particular version (different versions will run on the same machine separately without taking up much space).

Won't that open my system up to a potential threat though?

Well... if China has showed us anything, is any system ever really safe?

Oracle has always urged removal of older versions of Java. They even tell you to encourage the coder of whatever program you're using to update their program to work with the latest version of Java. Their official stance is: some Java applications (or applets) can indicate that they are dependent on a particular version, and may not run if you do not have that version installed. If an application or web page you access requires an older version of Java, you should report this to the provider/developer and request that they update the application to be compatible with all Java versions.

The unfortunate reality of abandonware is that this is not feasible or possible unless you are willing to reverse engineer and take it on yourself. The only reason I suggest it is because sometimes it's the only recourse. Java sometimes removes certain features when going to a new version. More often the case, some functions get a slightly different behavior, which breaks some applications that relied on the old behavior.

Older versions of PCGen ran into this - you couldn't switch to the updated version of PCGen and use the official data sets for 3.5e, but the older PCGen showed issues with newer versions of Java. I couldn't even tell you if it would work in your specific instance but it's an available option that has worked for some.  It also shouldn't be too big a deal except within a browser environment, which should be using the newer version anyway or, at the very least, can be set to do so.

I think I've found a solution. I've emptied out my override folder and now can finalize the bic. Thanks everyone for your help.
