To be fair, I was the one who was cool with SP content gated by the purchase of other games or peripherals, not TommyServo.

Edit: What I'm not cool with is a broken promise: They promised that SP content would not be gated by MP, that the two modes would remain 100% separate.

This is what sticks in my craw the most.

As far as the former - I personally don't like most of it. I detest limited time promotional items in a single player game, I detest using them as incentive to buy things like strategy guides, and I detest retailer exclusive preorder items. I would like to be rid of all of them.

I'm very much in favor of a situation like a save import from one game to another conferring special items occasionally, but that's about it (TW2 did this, to name a recent example that I've encountered where I appreciated the implentation). And I very much resent being forced to play multiplayer for single player exclusive content, especially when there is a glaringly obvious single player route to acquiring it.

I am yet to read a statement that would be that explicit ... same with the MEPC or ME2PS3 back in the day  ;)

+ that was some 9 months ago, lot can happen within such a long time.

The tweets that Iakus posted in the other thread are pretty unambiguous. If the way those statements were worded was at all conditional, then you'd have a point. Even if you cling to Flynn's "cool plans for the future" I see three to one in support of no MP crossover.

If this approach has changed in the intervening period, then I would suggest they say as much. Otherwise, I will feel free to take them at their word.

edit: Come to think of it, that may be my problem here. I dont care about dragon props, I dont use them as its out of place as most other decors. I think, I just dont like people being entitled to everything without any effort on their side, while at the same time demanding to take away stuff from those who exersise any skill or effort. This communist poison ruined my country.

If this is what you think the crux of our complaint is, then I don't know what to say.

I don't want them to take this option away from you. Nor do I want access to this content with no effort required on my end (that would negate the very point in my mind). I thought I was very clear on this, but apparently not.

I trust you do see that.

Darrahs comment was true at launch and he makes no promises about future (remember, many games are no longer supported this long after launch), Epler speaks of "experience" which is rather vague amd Laidlaw responds to comment about multiplayer items, whereas dragon props are singleplayer decorations.

They announced and released dragon props...

Yes, they did do that. Hence the entirely justified consternation.

I'll put this here for record:

==============================================================================================
Mark Darrah ‏@BioMarkDarrah 1m
And no, singleplayer content is NOT locked behind MP.

John Epler ‏@eplerjc
To clarify, playing MP vs. not playing MP will have no impact on your SP experience.

Ability Drain ‏@AbilityDrain
Since the characters work for our Inquisitor, will some of the items we unlock in multiplayer become available in story mode?
Mike Laidlaw ‏@Mike_Laidlaw
No, they're separate modes.

@AarynFlynn @dragonage count for SP so my question is, IS the MP going to have ANY effect on the SP at all?
Aaryn Flynn ‏@AarynFlynn
@user @dragonage No gated content. But we do have some cool ideas for the future, even as we keep the experiences distinct.

=================================================================================

I maintain that you're reading something completely different, but I guess we can let other folks chime in to see for themselves.

I don't see why cosmetic content matters. We've seen SP models get pushed toward MP for e.g. character appearances. If Bioware/EA are desperate to push people toward MP because MP (and presumably the microtransactions it has, right? not that I've ever played MP), then this is the best possible outcome for SP players.

One reason it matters to me is because I don't liked getting pushed to do MP/microtransactions.

I can just see these things becoming available in some kind of spoils of the dragons micro DLC or something. Thing of it is if they added some new actual gameplay content to go with it, I'd probably go for it.

A small new area, some simple quests. A little like the BL2 Headhunter packs. could be fun.
Available for all platforms too.

I do support giving this as a reward for killing all the dragons.  Since that is an account-bound achievement, it would be easy to retroactively award, and also not have to rinse and repeat for new playthroughs.

Really?I was under the impression that they would still let MP be connected to single player. It's not like anyone on these forums can say they can't play Multiplayer due to Internet being not accessible.Everyone here is online with Internet.

My PC is connected to the internet, but I played DA:I on the 360 - to which a gold subscription is required for online content; I can't afford to pay for a gold subscription (nor do I play long enough at the moment for one to be justified) - so no, unless I pay up, then I can't get the items.

And to be frank, as much as I adore collecting everything (I'm somewhat of a completionist), as a matter of principle, I won't be forced into MP because that's where EA / Bioware wants to shift players to make more money.

I totally agree that the set should be made available on SP through dragon slaying - it makes more sense to kill 10 and have a room full of stuff than to kill one and end up with loads.

Ideally, I'd love to have it linked to some dragon whacking accomplishment in SP, but I'll pay cold, hard cash for it if that's what it takes.  Happily pay, too.  But what I am not going to do is fire up MP to do it.  And unfortunately, as this is probably the only way to get any attention, I also won't be buying any other DLC until this is available without accessing MP.  That's gonna suck, because I always buy all the DLC, usually as soon as it is released.  Please, Bioware, don't make it suck for me :(

.38 Special - Back Where You Belong

I played around now, I've done some dealing
I found that love should be with you
And so you're gone now, my head is reeling
Don't wanna be with someone new
And so I go, with a feeling inside me
'Cause I know what I'm leaving behind

I know that love, it don't come easy
It took so long, it's been hard to find
So love, you must believe me
Ain't gonna let it slip away
I know I was wrong

I want you back where you belong
Want you back where you belong
Back where you belong

"What are you on about, Roderick Beren?"  Well let me tell you!  I was wrong on the boycott, it's a simple as that.  Bioware comes through with amazing DLCs like they do and I reward them by refusing to buy?  That was stupid and foolish of me.   Yeah, I still disagree with them about  the dragon decor being MP-gated, but I have faith they'll eventually come around and make it right for SP folks.

Bioware, I'm sorry.  I <3 you!  Not as much as I love Cassie, but hey, you can't be perfect like she is.

Spoiler

There's no point boycotting the DLC's they're so inexpensive it probably wouldn't make that much difference anyway, especially being it's the boycotter that loses out more than bioware. Plus they are now looking into an option for SP only fans, I suspect it probably won't be available until they release the next single player patch, which considering windows 10 just came out and is causing issues (started freezing up on loading screens sometimes for me), probably won't be that much longer.

"looking into an option" can mean anything.  Or nothing.  I mean, it sounds very much like a brush-off to me.

Ok it's not looking good apparently, according to Mark Darrah:

"we looked into it. There isn't an easy way (weirdly) because of how we set it up. Still investigating but it isn't looking good"

I'm still hopeful, but looks increasingly like one of the best decorations you can get for skyhold we'll just have to live without. :(

Sounds like an excuse to me. They don;t want to do it simple as that.

The way it was setup was at the end of an MP match it would write an entitlement to your account that you killed the dragon, then when the game launched it would check to see if you had that entitlement and if it did it would make it available.

This is how it works

This is how it works

Then surely the solution would be to provide an alternative method of writing that entitlement to our accounts, maybe like something similar to what was done with some of the unlockable bonus items like the Quest For Red Lyrium Reapers, so that we don't have to do multiplayer to get them. I just want to get every single player content I can get, since I love the game and want to enjoy every single element of it, and feel penalised for the way I prefer to play the game, is why I'm hoping beyond hope that they can find a solution.

However telling us that it's too complicated to implement when as you say all it requires is just writing data to our account, seems a bit strange to me, maybe what's complicated is how they do that writing to the data, since if it was unlockable by killing dragons in SP, not everyone is connected to the internet when they play, so no way of writing the data if that's the case I understand, but still surely they can provide a web based route to getting it?

And could that entitlement not be attached also to, say killing one or more high Dragons in SP?  Or the Wyrmslayer or Dragonsbane achievements?  Or the "Celebrate the Dragonslaying" or one of the other dragon-based war table missions?

Or even adding a new dragon into the game with that entitlement.

Just a quick question if I may - it's easier said than done to add a check for the 10 dragon achievement to that?

No the entitlement is tied to systems that only exist in MP

Also given that the entitlement is written to your online account, what happens when you are playing offline?

I simply cant say, as far as I know there exists different types of entitlements, and this may very well be one of those cases where writing from the game is different from that of a webservice.

Knowing bioware they'd probably much rather include the dragon prop set alongside all the exclusive bonus items and DLC's in an ultimate edition. But yeah I did suggest to Mark Darrah to repackage the set as the 'Spoils of the Dragon' or something.
