Does the rupture (ability combo) DoT work?

I hadn't seen much value in giving up an ability slot for sleep effects as everything dies quickly, but now that enemies have so much more hp in nightmare, I thought (as an archer) that I would try sleep + long shot for the rupture combo.  I tried it several times, and in all cases, there was an initial hit that seemed about half the damage that applied it, and then nothing after.

Example: sleep, long shot for 2200, a secondary hit is applied for ~1000 immediately.  Takes enemy to <10% health.  Kite around for 30s, still chasing me, no new damage displayed at any point, enemy didn't die.

Anyone else having this experience?

long shot will only be a basic combo with sleep.  Rupture will happen from an impact detonator such as mighty blow or stone fist.  The basic combo will only have a smaller amount of initial damage and will not apply any DoT.

Makes sense.  Thanks for the quick answer.

I haven't been able to try it yet but the archers knockout bomb to sleep enemies and the keepers dispel might yield interesting combos. Sleeping enemies does seem much more useful on nightmare and if you pull venatori, then you'll be glad you have dispel on your keeper. At least I was, lol.

Sleep + Long Shot (Precision Detonator) doesn't apply Rupture afaik, and only applies a single damage count (not DoT) to the primary target.

To apply Rupture as a DoT you need Sleep + Impact Detonator

edit: correction, and HeroicMass beat me to it
