You are trying to liken CoD to eSports titles like StarCraft 2, LoL, and DotA 2... In reality, it's comparable to Madden and Halo.

Since it's a gaming forum, I have to nitpick: even in the context of the examples that you're giving, Madden doesn't belong in that list. Unless, perhaps, you're referring to a specific edition that I'm not familiar with.

As someone who has put thousands of hours into several different Madden Franchise modes, I'm confident that Madden should be considered a game of tremendous depth. Yes, someone can just jam it in and play exhibition matches in arcade mode, but that ignores 99% of what can be done with the game. Madden set the standard for in-depth sports simulators, and while they haven't been leading the charge for several years, that doesn't change the fact that most games of the genre are still playing catch-up.

Oh, hey, MP Twerks thread is back.

Spoiler

And to answer the new question, you can still get blue armor. I had not crafted all the armor types because I didn't want them all/didn't want inventory issues. And the other weekend, I got a blue Arcane Warrior armor from a chest.

LMFAO fell for it again.

Will you marry me?

I'm referring to the eSports scene specifically. eSports Madden competitions are almost always exhibition games, and are also typically more casual meets. When I played Halo 2 on the MLG circuit in 2006-2007, it was also considerably more causal than MOBA/RTS tournaments I've been to, albeit a bit more serious than Madden.

My point was that Call of Duty tournaments are like Halo or Madden tournaments in that the game that is seen in the eSports arena is quite shallow compared to SC2 or DotA 2. Frankly, it's not really a fair comparison though... MOBA games have gown up in the eSports world and are honestly kind of engineered with eSports in mind (especially DotA 2). FPS games have been around long before then, and are still predominantly a more casual experience.

Note: I don't mean "casual" is the confusingly derogatory connotation. I mean casual as in ease-of-use and low barrier of entry.

can anyone confirm whether potions change has actually gone into effect yet?  REALLY anticipating (and appreciating) that one.

as of this morning it wasn't working.

What I heard is we have to wait until this weekend for that fix as well as the +50 inventory (which is badly needed!)

I'm not familiar with the scene in question, although I knew there were Madden tournaments held, particularly near the Superbowl.

Naturally, I was defending the honour of one of the "old guard" of sports simulators, since NHL Hockey and Madden Football can largely be credited with most of the genre's conventions, innovations, and success. :P

Exhibition games make sense for a tournament, as they would be the fairest game mode for direct PvP competition. If they were to ever do a franchise version of that, I suspect the number of competitors willing to play out a season-to-season franchise mode with all of the extra work and math would dwindle to the point where designing a Franchise MP mode would be a pointless waste of resources (there is a limited ability for players to do this themselves, in the form of local Multiplayer, but it would be very difficult to actually manage a season-to-season tournament involving hundreds of hours locally.)

But I would sign up for it if they ever did it.

I've gotten some blue armor all weekend.

Actually, I'm not sure this answers the question about armor drops for new players.  Let me explain my question.

So there are 4 levels of armor quality, correct?  For example, the reaver can have an armor rating of 76 (common), 119, 138 (both rare) and 184 (unique).  The basic 76 armor clearly drops from chests.  Once you craft the first 119 armor, then yes, you can get the other 119 armor as a drop in a chest.  But can you still get your FIRST 119 armor from a chest?  I suspect that most of the people posting here have at least one piece unlocked in all 4 armor tiers, and are just filling out the missing pieces.  Are those the types of blues you were getting?  Can anyone confirm whether they unlocked a new armor tier in a chest since the change?

Luke's original post above makes it sound like you can't unlock a new armor tier any longer.  And that's been my experience since the change.  It could just be an RNG issue, but I'm just trying to understand Luke's comment.

If you're looking at it as 4 tiers of armor only the first two should be dropping from chests now - I did however ensure that every one of the base 12 classes had all those armors in the loot table as previously some were missing.
