I'm sure it exists somewhere but I can't find it. Is there a frame-by-frame of the images you get from the beacon on Eden Prime? Or any of the beacons, for that matter?

I like this and thank you, but something that either slows it down or shows the individual images. Other than a couple of images, it's mostly just a blur.

Its much easier if you play the game and record it yourself. I usually delete all my recorded gameplay after I make the gifs. But you can use regular video editing software on these gifs but it won't be in good quality.

btw, if you're using PC, you can use Bik player to watch through all the cut scenes without playing the game. But you'll need Fraps to record the vids or a Bik converter. Honestly it was a hassle for me but its doable.

Yeah, same, and same with a discussion of the fram-by-frame version.

So, I was curious and decided to dissect the very first vision Shepard gets, on Eden Prime:

Spoiler

This was really interesting. I missed plenty of those while just watching this in the game. I might do it with the others if I have time.

Woah. Those Protheans sure did show us the Citadel a whole bunch of times, didn't they? And thank you for this!

No problem! It was a great suggestion. I couldn't stop thinking about it since I saw this topic. I can't believe I didn't think of that before because I've always had trouble to understand the visions. Now it makes more sense why Shepard was so sure about the Reapers. While it's hard to make sense of it all in that speed, the beacon really pushes the message. I assume that somebody who got it burnt in their brain as knowledge or experience rather than just a bunch of images would understand it a little better.

Also, the Citadel images, for example, appear for so much less than a second that if anybody caught that I really admire their eyes.

I wonder what the weird fleshy things are. When going through the individual frames, it made me think that perhaps that's supposed to show how the people of the previous cycle were implanted with reaper tech like Saren or maybe turned into reaper creatures like husks. I talked with a friend about it and their guess was that it might be showing how they were turned into the Collectors, which is also an awesome theory, imho. We know that BW wasn't planning too far ahead while making the first game so who knows whether it was supposed to really be them, but it would make a lot of sense, too.

A prothean being experimented on and turned into husk like creature seems to most likely. They're imagery in the first game was vauge because bioware hadn't quite nailed down their appearance just yet. The statues you find on Ilos have been confirmed to be protheans though or the the very least the place holder design bioware was using at the time.

Spoiler

The art of Mass Effect books says these statues were the protheans initial appearance before ME2 and the collector helped bioware finalize their design. While the Reaper's motivations might be a patch work of visibly changing ideas as the games go on it seems like they decided pretty early on that the Reaper (as you've pointed out with Saren) would be at least somewhat interested in implanting organics from the get go.

It's interesting that in the vision (and the codex) the citadel tower appears to be right above one of the wards, yet in every other instance it's in between two wards and looks radically different, too, for example it's much thinner in the actual game.

Javik in ME3 mentions that there were many races that were added to the Prothean Empire who came to call themselves 'Prothean' or were called such by the actual Prothean Race despite them being second-class citizens as far as that name was concerned. So I'd say that both designs (Javik's and the ME1 statues) are correct and 'canon'.

. . .but its been awhile so I may be remembering things wrong.

No, you're correct, you can ask Javik about Prothean civilization before the war after Eden Prime, back on the Normandy :)

He tells you that the others all were eventually called Prothean and did not have a choice in the matter.

So... good catch! :)

No, I'm never bored. I'm not quite sure why you think I couldn't be genuinely curious about it. Anyway, your point? Your response is so very on topic.

Even if that's what you think, why would care or even post it? That's just rude.

Finally got some time, so I've gone through the images of the Feros vision (The one you see when Shiala gives you the Cipher.) and it's in big part more of the same - especially with the destruction, tech and goo, glimpses of a Reaper. Some images are new but very similar to what we see on Eden Prime, like more tech and goo:

Spoiler

This is the screaming thing that "opens its mouth":

Spoiler

That sure doesn't make me any smarter. Personally, I like to go with the theory we've talked about - that the victims were being forcefully implanted and such, hence this image together with the screaming sound. It might not even be a mouth. Could be just flesh being torn apart. I don't know.

There are some new images which are in decent speed which I'm sure everybody has seen:

Spoiler

I assume those try to point to Ilos and the star system in which it can be found.

Oh, yeah, and then there's this bastard:

Spoiler

Interestingly enough, this vision doesn't show the Citadel at all.

After listening to Javik though I took these statues as the Innosanon who lived before the Protheans. Javik told that the planet Ilos; the research station there was built on a previous civilization.

Thank you again for those images!

The thing opening it's "mouth" could be the Protheans being implanted with Reaper Tech in a painful way... This or it could be a flesh being open (and it coincidentally forms a mouth)

So, the beacons are basically transmiting information on what happened to the various Protheans in the Milky Way(or beyond) to other Prothean survivors so that they could save themselves. (Like said in-game)

And then, in ME2, we get a brief modification on this image to confirm that tthe Protheans were being altered for the Reaper's purpose, being transformed into Collectors.
