No returning characters in andromeda? Thoughts?

I'm not saying no codex. If garrus' journeys have ended y the time arkon (according to theories) begins, sure give us a codex entry telling us what became of him (assuming it reads choices we put into our hypothetical mass effect keep) based in our own choices.
But aside from that, I would be okay if nobody from he series talked to us.
Not that I would mind a bit of an inside joke. If Arkon sends out before the reaper war ends, and he genophage stuff hasn't happened yet (so they don't have to reference it), maybe have Conrad on the ship? Sure. But a character like Garrus being in both would be forced.
Tl;dr I hope the characters I love from Me:1-3 don't show up in Me:A

I'm fine with no cameos, though returning minor characters who can't die would be interesting

I'd like to see a codex on Commander Shepard.

Absolutely content. I want a clean break. We get cameos from characters of any kind from the last three games, people are just going to want more - first a more prominent character, then a squadmate, then something solid on Shepard. Even if centuries have passed between games.
I mean, I get it - we want to spend more time with the characters we love. I get it. But their story is done, and trying to add a post-script to that story is just going to lead to trying to go back and keep telling their stories. The story of Shepard and company is completed, for better or worst. Time for a new one.

You remember when they remade 'Clash of the Titans' and it was absolutely horrible?
Trying to re-tell an old story in a new way is infinitely worse than trying to tell a new story on its own.

I liked the bebo reference, but otherwise? Nothing was much improved.
See also 'The Karate Kid', 'The Parent Trap' , 'Conan the Barbarian' . . .

Now that I think about it, a better comparision is this:
You know how Disney is known for making good animated films? Do you also know how Disney tends to franchise the **** out of those movies, and that the sequels are rarely ever talked about unless they somehow get out of the basement and start terrorizing the neighborhood?

This reminds me of the Disney sequel that is never talked about but absolutely should be: The Rescuers Down Under. That was an amazing film but nobody ever talks about it.

Ontopic, I would love to have some of the minor characters from the Shepard Trilogy show up again or even in bigger roles as a way to connect to stories.

Maaaaaaaaan I just saw this movie about two months ago. It was glorious, but The Rescuers was never really franchised to the extent of 'The Little Mermaid' or 'The Jungle Book'. . . Tail Spin, why are you a thing?
. . .At least the 'Lion King' franchise gave us 'The Adventures of Timon and Pumba'. . .

Oh Oh, What if Andromeda is invaded by Humpback whales, and Shep and company have to travel back to 1986 Earth in order to find one since they are extinct in present day. And Shep has to like convince people in 1986 to stop killing whales and stuff, and Liara has to wear a funny hat to hide her weird headcrest thingies.

And makeup to hide her blue skin. Or tell them she's from France.
I like it. Sounds like a completely original concept.

That would be fine with me
At the moment, the only characters I can see making an appearance in the next game would be Barla Von, Bailey and Aethyta. There might be others, but I can't think of any at this time. I would be surprised about Bailey since he had family on Earth. So I could see him not going on the ark/ship. I guess the same could be said about Aethyta since she may want to know if Liara is ok.

Completely content not to see anyone from the previous series.
Reasons for this is I want a clean slate. If I bump into Liara, or Tali, Garrus or anyone else... I'm going to want my Shepard back and that isn't going to happen. Although I think we should get another game from Bioware with Shepard before he/she ended up on that fateful shake down run of the Normandy.
But no I want fresh companions, romances and enemies. If we are going to a strange new galaxy then I want all fresh faces. I don't even want to see any hair styles from the ME series in this game. Bring on the new.

Agreed. Fortunately, Colonel Radec wouldn't be a returning character for the Mass Effect series

Codex, writings, recordings, videos and sound clips etc. are fine but i agree that there should be no characters from previous games, none at all.
