Why do venatori wear tighty whity underwear, and why do they wear clothes that show it?

It just makes them look so ridiculous that I have a hard time taking them seriously. I mean, look at this-

Holy crap, look at that! They are men wearing skirts that constantly show their tight cotton briefs, and I'm supposed to see them as a real threat?

I noticed recently that their Gladiators (shield guys) wear almost nothing, actually. I guess they're really relying on that bulwark of theirs! Anyway, it's only slightly less ridiculous than these "armours" we're getting in the Spoils packs. I hope the next one actually has some plate in it, be it medium or heavy. There isn't enough actual, metal armour in the game that looks like something a knight would wear.

So, in short: I agree.

They're modeled after gladiators, man. Given that, they dress pretty conservatively. Have you ever seen Spartacus?

That's another thing, how lightly armored they are. Red templars, they wear some proper armor with full coverage and plate and look very intimidating. These guys? Cloth, lots of exposed skin, and constant underwear flashing. This, and liking the future Redcliffe way more than the Envy demon mission, are why the vast majority of my playthroughs have the red templars being the enemies during In Your Heart Shall Burn. Red templars are rather freaky and cool, venatori look like rejects.

My theory is this.. when bioware decided that all inquisitor armor was to be long sleeve turtlenecks they realized someone needed to show some skin. So now we have these weirdos with banana hammocks.

Imagine that, scantily clad men look ridiculous and aren't taken seriously by players! Seems like I remember another group complaining about this problem since the beginning of gaming and being told to shove off!

I love you Bioware! Please, please, continue being you!

hmmm, wonder why it is that some people  are so threatened when double standards are pointed out? And, nope, I'll stay right here on my soapbox as the topic of scantily clad characters and how this makes the players view them is very relevant to my soapbox.

Oh for f*ck sakes, take your gender politicking out of here. Go spout that crap somewhere else, this is NOT the topic for it. I hate people who feel the need to turn every topic into their own little soapbox about their personal political issue of the day. You want to talk about sexism in video games, make your own topic.

Dude, I think you just hijacked your own thread.

Back to Venatori undies?

This is a perfect example of someone trying to control the conversation. You can assert all day long that your thread has nothing to do with gender politics and you'll be wrong all day long. Would you like to know what made it relevant to gender politics? Probably not, but I'll tell you anyway. You made the statement that the showing of venatori underwear caused you to view them as "ridiculous" and "not a threat". When I saw the pic I couldn't help but think about how this topic would be very different if a woman were in that pic. I also reflected back to how many times I've made the very point that many costumes, like Isabela's, made them look ridiculous and hard to take seriously. And, I was told so often that it was wrong. It strikes me as funny that no one has told you that you are wrong yet when a man is pictured. That's how we got here.

You don't own or control the conversation. You don't get to shut down my take on the conversation just because you don't like it or because I took it someplace that you don't want. You can ignore me all you want. But, you don't get to silence me. Be as nasty as you want. Try to bully me and tell me to 'get the **** off'. Not going anywhere.

Ugh... You're going on my ignore list. Back on topic.

By the way, I would consider just as ridiculous if they were female. But nope, Iet's assume my position based on no evidence at all so you can do your little hijack. Just like assuming someone mad at an atheist hijacker must be religious. Typical.

What statement? The nonexistent one where I said males showing underwear is bad but females showing underwear is fine? Here's a statement for you:

Showing underwear is ridiculous no matter who it is.

There, that enough "double standard" for you?

This humorous thread lasted less than two replies and turned into an astonishingly straight-faced, metal bikini/religion/lore quality-hybrid-discussion.

Nope, I responded to your over the top hostile statements towards 'gender politic soapboxes'. Glad to know that you actually agree with my position. You still don't control the conversation. I made a post about my take on it and you blew your top. So sad, too bad. Now, where's this ignore I was promised?

I know right? Jesus Christ, this is exactly why I hate people who insist on bringing hot button personal politics into discussions for no reason besides then feeling like it. This garbage was definitely not what this topic was made for.

No, here's what you just did.

"Venatori are a cult, but all religions are cults. This is why religion is garbage and should die out, it's all dangerous."

I'm an atheist myself btw, in case you think I'm bashing atheists. Anyway, that's basically what you did. You took a topic that has nothing to do with politics and used it as an excuse to talk about your little hot button topic of the day. And then did the classic trick of getting defensive when someone calls you on it, pretending that the topic creator only got mad because they must be part of the problem, like the atheist in that example getting defensive by claiming that the topic creator only got mad because they must be religious themselves. Instead of, you know, the fact that you turned someone else's topic into theirr own little soapbox and the someone who made the topic got annoyed about it.

I don't give a flying crap what your societal problem of the day that you're going to fix by posting on a video game message board is, I care that you felt the need to bring it into a discussion that had not a goddamn thing to do with it. Seriously, I could even agree with you and STILL be irritated about you bringing it up when it isn't remotely pertinent. Topic about enemy designs=/= topic about sexism in video games, and you're an ass to try to change it into that because you think your internet activism is more important than staying on topic.

etc etc...

That's going a little far there.  :? Save reporting trolls for the real trolls, not someone with an opinion.

OT though, be grateful they are wearing undies at all.

You come into my topic and post about your tumblr topic of the day to get mad about, subtly accuse me of sexism, tell me that you don't care that you're off topic because you're going to keep doing it, attempt a topic derailment, assume my positions on the societal issue you bludgeoned me with with no cause or evidence about my positions... And you're the victim? Uh, sure.

See, I don't agree that I'm off topic. In fact, I've already explained how my comment is on topic. Again, this goes back to that whole controlling the conversation issue; you not liking my take on the topic doesn't make it off topic. Try again.
