there is nothing generic about the electronic tracks from Mass Effect 1 (those tracks also play in the Cabin in ME2 so I assume that's the tracks you're referring to).
"Generic" was me being nice. What I meant was that those tracks were pure and unadulterated sh*t.
You'd probably end up with Jim Raynor in-game then though...
Jim Raynor kicks - both human and alien - @ss. If the game goes full cowboys-in-space - and wont be a total p.o.s. - i make my character as close as possible to Jim.
I wouldn't actually be averse to some Portal 2 style tunes:
That game actually had a pretty kick-ass soundtrack... and it's the only thing Valve have ever released with a 3 in the title (the Portal 2 soundtrack being in 3 parts).

Just one man's opinion.
You mean they were unique and really captured that nostalgic 80s sci-fi movie feel, with some of the tunes being awesome homages to Bladerunner, one of the best sci-fi movies ever.
Mass Effect needs more music like this:
PhroXenGold, KaiserShep et Amplitudelol aiment ceci
As much as I liked the feel of the tracks in the ME series I wonder if they won't try and new feel since we are in a new galaxy. Unless the music is just face slappingly wrong for the setting (Gallipoli is a move nearly ruined by the soundtrack) it should be ok.

Somehow can't see this being the theme song for fighting giant space monsters... unless you can get flared spacesuit trousers.
... though I suspect Bootsy Collins may be an alien from the planet Funktahalion IX ...

Mass Effect needs more music like this:
I was born in 89. I don't have any nostalgia for that decade.
Which isn't to say I don't appreciate it. Some of my favorite movies and songs are from the 80s, but I don't have any nostalgia for it.
But those tracts were at best boring, evocative of generic tracts I've heard in a dozen mixes that my techno-obsessed friends have subjected me to. At worst they were out and out annoying and unpleasant to hear.
I don't care what they were inspired by. They were crap. And I don't want anything remotely like them in the new games.
I really hope that the music has greater variety and higher quality than the first trilogy.
The score was fine, for the most part, if somewhat forgetable; nothing about it really stands out in my mind.
What does stand out are the atrocious, bland, generic, electronica tracks that you could set to play in your cabin and the generic "club crab" beats that you'd hear in the obligatory night club levels and during the loud version of the party.
I'd like to see a lot more effort put into the music this time around.
Don't totally agree with you - playing through ME1 again at the moment and...
Meh:
Hmmmmm:
... but I do quite like the tune in the lower level of Afterlife in ME2:
Hire Mick Gordon who made the new Killer Instinct tracks and all those weird germen remakes in Wolfenstein the new order. And i think the music in new Doom trailer from E3.

Funny, cause I was born in 1988 and I'm definitely nostalgic towards Bladerunner and Terminator and all that good stuff. I guess I can blame that on my dad. He introduced me to some epic sci-fi stuff very early on. He made me watch Bladerunner, Terminator, Star Wars and Star Trek as a kid.
I'm also a musician. I play the guitar, used to play in a black metal band and I compose my own music (as a hobby really). Not trying to one-up you or anything but I'm just saying, as a musician I genuinely think the tunes from Bladerunner and Terminator and other 80s sci-fi was great and well-done. So you can't say they're objectively bad, because they aren't. You might not like them personally and that is your right to hold that opinion, but I strongly, strongly disagree with you.
Another favorite sci-fi show of mine was Thunderbirds. I'd welcome music similar to Thunderbird's music in ME:A. It's orchestra music, but real orchestra music.
Imagine this song playing while the player's star-ship is prepped for launch to explore the Andromeda galaxy:
Clint Mansell, Jack Wall, Sam Hulick.. 'Nuff said.
Jack Wall and Sam Hullick definitely did great stuff for the ME trilogy, though I'd argue ME2's music was a bit on the generic side.
If BioWare really wants to go all-out, they should get Hans Zimmer. You can't go wrong with that guy. His work for Interstellar, Inception and Man of Steel really blew me away.
This has to be one of the best battle songs in recent history. If ME:A would get music like this I'd buy the game even if just for the music:
I trust Bioware to do justice with the game's soundtrack. The entire Mass Effect Trilogy had an incredible soundtrack, that had both a blend of orchestral and synth music. Dragon Age: Inquisition knocked it out of the park with Trevor Morris composing the game. Bioware seems to be a developer that takes music in it's games very seriously. They want you to feel immersed in their world, and they know how important it is to us.
That said I know a lot of us weren't fans of their choice of music for the Teaser Trailer, but that shouldn't reflect on the actual game's music. Hopefully.
(crap - shouldn't have linked to that video ... I find it really hard to watch; it was made after his wife died and it actually chokes me up somewhat - way more harrowing the the original)
One of my favourites. Also his version of "Personal Jesus".

Inquisition's main theme was incredible. You can hear this a lot of time, especially in epic scenes. Other than this nothing was memorable because of the artistic decision of playing music only for a few seconds every few minutes. I hope they wont pull that crp on Andromeda. It kills the mood.

Really, DAI knocked it out of the park? Honestly I found the music of DAI to be quite underwhelming. 70% of the time there was no music playing at all and those few moments that we do hear music it was quite generic and forgettable music. The sole exceptions are these two songs, which both are really amazing:
Edit: Granted, the main theme (menu theme) was also quite awesome.
Never liked the wonky, poor adaptation of 80's synth based ones though. Sounded like i was playing a parody of ME.
Easily the best part of the soundtrack. Gave the game incredible flare and sensation, especially when playing. Repetitive tunes might not sound great on your mp3 but sound great while fighting and having to focus on 100 things at the same time. I provides a rythm to the combat.
Not to mention vigil, galaxy map theme, illos theme, eden prime, all of virmire music
Not to discredit orchestral music, it works well in mass effect but usually in cutscenes only (citadel, suicide mission, me3 piano intro etc)
Mass Effect franchise already has unique and recognizable music theme. Changing it would have negative impact on the upcoming game. New themes are for new franchises.
I feel Bioware has done a good job, thus far, with the music in the Mass Effect series. Music really does make a big difference in my overall enjoyment of a game/movie/TV show - I do notice, and appreciate, a well-crafted score. Imagine Star Wars, having gone with some 70's disco inspired tracks, instead of John Williams' breathtaking score? Or Conan the Barbarian, with a heavy metal soundtrack instead of Basil Poledouris' evocative music?
Ghost Riders in the Sky is fine for the trailer but I don't think we'll be hearing it in-game very much. At least, I hope not.
