So I just read this book the other day, and I am confused. The book is all about the conflict between Celene and Gaspard, with Briala acting as Celene's closest agent and lover. But in the end Briala figures out that Celene had killer her parents when they were teenagers in order to evenutally take the throne. Briala leaves and Celene and Gaspard are both left alive to keep fighting for the throne of Orlais. However in Inquisition, it is a mandatory quest to resolve this fight for the throne while at the ball. You can actually kill one of Gaspard or Celene but either way it is resolved. Given that I would assume the game takes the role as canon, is The Masked Empire just a different, non canonical, version of what happens in Orlais? This may seem obvious but it has bothered me since I completed the book. Personally, when I played the game, I had Gaspard killed and I brought Celene and Briala back together. Obviously this would completely contradict the ending of the book.
