Filming for the newest Michael Myers movie, Halloween Returns, is starting this month (or may have already begun). The newest film in the Halloween franchise will ignore the Rob Zombie movies and may or may not be a continuation of the original series (I've seen Wikipedia call it a standalone, but I can't find their source for it).

(not from the new film)
It is not a remake or origin film as the following is what is known of the plot: "The film is set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage. It will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers' case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line."
The keywords are "initial rampage" which would be the events of Halloween, so if this is the case then this movie would at least take place after Halloween 2 because he hadn't been seen between 1 and 2. Another thing to consider is the 18-year-old child of one of the victims, was the child born back in Halloween 1 or after? If after, then it seems that this movie might take place after Resurrection and thus be a sequel. They could even get around showing Michael's face -since he is in prison- by having had the mask melt to his face at the end of Resurrection.
One final tidbit of information is that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are writing the film; they're the guys that wrote some of the Saw sequels.

Anyone else excited, yet cautious? I'm sure the movie will be terrible, but boy do I want a new Halloween film.
