Filming for the newest Michael Myers movie, Halloween Returns, is starting this month (or may have already begun). The newest film in the Halloween franchise will ignore the Rob Zombie movies and may or may not be a continuation of the original series (I've seen Wikipedia call it a standalone, but I can't find their source for it).

(not from the new film)

It is not a remake or origin film as the following is what is known of the plot: "The film is set to reintroduce audiences to Michael Myers years after his initial rampage. It will pit a new group of Haddonfield youngsters against Myers. The now 18-year-old child of one of Myers’ victims plays a central role along with the child of a cop whose long been obsessed with Myers' case, even putting it before his own daughter. Myers is now on death row and the two kids with their own personal vendettas against the killer sneak in to watch his execution. But when things go awry and Myers escapes, the pair, along with their friends, find themselves in the firing line."

The keywords are "initial rampage" which would be the events of Halloween, so if this is the case then this movie would at least take place after Halloween 2 because he hadn't been seen between 1 and 2. Another thing to consider is the 18-year-old child of one of the victims, was the child born back in Halloween 1 or after? If after, then it seems that this movie might take place after Resurrection and thus be a sequel. They could even get around showing Michael's face -since he is in prison- by having had the mask melt to his face at the end of Resurrection.

One final tidbit of information is that Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan are writing the film; they're the guys that wrote some of the Saw sequels.

Anyone else excited, yet cautious? I'm sure the movie will be terrible, but boy do I want a new Halloween film.

Why do I get the feeling this is gonna turn out like Friday The 13th '09?

Funny/sad thing about that, the next Friday the 13th film is going to be yet another reboot.

I feel like both series still have the potential for greatness, I just wish they'd stop with the reboots/remakes. In my opinion, this film could be good if they set a large portion of it in the prison. Running around a prison and trying to hide from Michael Myers... All sorts of hazards!

Yeah it could be potentially good, but still I'm hesitant. And I will say if it is good I hope we can go back to some good slasher horror. Too many Saw/goreporn and PA clones.

It'd be cool if Myers escapes, somehow kills a bunch of guards and inadvertently setting a cell block loose or what not. Then it could be Myers v. Teens v. Prisoners. Or some of the prisoners team up with the teens to try and survive Myers' bloodletting.

I was thinking of the teenagers trying to hide in prison cells with some of the prisoners, but that'd be sweet too. At least they (the courts) seem to recognize that Myers isn't mentally ill, but a force of evil. They acknowledge this by finally sentencing him to Death.

For the sake of the franchise this has to be a good Halloween movie, there hasn't been a good one in a decade or two.

Cool.

I remember the first Halloween in 1978 with Jamie Lee Curtis. The theme music was excellent

I actually liked the 09 movie. It was arguably better than the previous 6 movies at least.

Please tell me Rob Zombie has nothing to do with it.

Even the chicks wound up looking like Rob in it.

It is also highly unlikely that the movie is even connected to Rob Zombie's Halloweens. It is actually somewhat likely and speculated that it might be tied into the original series, but might break off at a certain point (maybe after 2) or might be a straight up sequel to Resurrection.

Actually it would be cool to see what if the curse took hold of his niece and she carried on his roll.

Micheal Myers killed her in the beginning of part 6.

(Obviously graphic)

He does have his niece's and his son that he could go after (yeah, he knocked up his niece thanks to some cultists).
