I actually have several theories to this ancient race:
1.) The Remnant were the second race to be harvested (The first were the Leviathans; not all were.)
2.) The Remnant were the very first race who initially created the important elements of the crucible.
(Remember when you spoke to the catalyst, Shepard asked who created the crucible; the blue and red portion of the crucible. The catalyst told him that he wouldn't know them and there wasn't enough time to explain.)
3.) The Remnant were actually the first stage of Leviathan evolution...before they grew gigantic.
4.) The Remnant are the masterminds behind EVERYTHING: The Leviathans, Reapers, organic life, synthetics, biotics, technological advancement. The ones who foresee EVERYTHING. The true Alpha and Omega. And they were doing that from the Andromeda galaxy.
5.) Or they were in fact a race that fled the Reapers during the early stages of the Harvest.
I'm interested in learning who the Remnant are because the Reapers, in my opinion, are the best antagonist idea in video game history. There is something unique in their design, backstory, and their roll in the story is breathtaking. When at first when we saw the Reapers we thought they had a mind of their own; a lot of us thought they were created, which they were. However, we thought they also could think for themselves. When in fact, there was a bit of innocence about them when it was revealed that they were not interested in war at all; merely looking for a way to save organic lives by basically punching us in the throat.
So I'm curious just who the Remnant are. The Reapers sort of set the bar for main antagonists in a Mass Effect game will the Remnant go even higher? I myself am a Indie Game Writer and I know good storytelling when I see. As a writer myself, I also know that there is a more darker and deeper story to the Remnant than what is being let on. Trust me. And I also have my doubts that they are extinct and I doubt "Remnant" is their official name. The Reapers were given a name by organics, so I assume the new races gave name to the ancient race based off of their technology they left behind.
So, what are your thoughts about this excitingly new ancient race?
Let's try to keep things civil.

For once I hope the Remnants or the way they will be called are NOT related at all with the Reapers and all the consequent bs. We went to Andromeda to avoid dealing with the endings so I expect something new, exciting and fresh.

I hope the Remnants do not have anything to do with the Reapers or Leviathans.
I want something new and more advanced than the Reapers.

I am not confident that the remnants will have any relation to the reapers. The Khet as our adversary in Andromeda, and based off of what I saw of the enemy in the ME:A trailer, I am curious if the Khet are actually Protheans that migrated to Andromeda.

No, no, no. No Reapers, no Leviathans, these things should stay in MW.
So, what are your thoughts about this excitingly new ancient race?
They could be anything. Bioware will probably follow one of popular tropes regarding them. They could advance to next form of existence, or they were wiped out by their own super-weapon, or they simply lost interest in reproduction and went extinct. There is also probably Dark Secret behind them, so all their gathered technology will bite everyone's asses in next chapters.

I certainly hope that Reapers have absolutely nothing to do with Andromeda. That is kind of the whole point to moving to Andromeda... to get away from ANYTHING reaper/catalyst created.

I hope that Andromeda has its own share of baddies, so they don´t need to import Milky Way ones.

Here's a theory I posted about who created the plans for the crucible
Maybe a species built the Remnants to help fight their enemy like the dwarves built golems to help fight the darkspawn

Ah yes, "Remnants"...
While I did like some of the Lovecraftian aspects of the reapers I hope they'll come up with something new for the main villians this time around, be they Remnants or Khet or some other group.

Honestly, I kind of wished Bioware didn't do a "correct" ending DLC for ME3 because, although a lot of you may say the ending was disappointing, to me it left a lot of speculation: the indoctrination theory (which to me, before the DLC for the ending came out, it just made me realize that I, the player, who sat through this entire trilogy, completely underestimated the "actual" strength of the Reapers. I felt like they wasn't just these huge machines that could destroy everything...like there was a reason Sovereign said they were way beyond our comprehension and I wanted to know why. When I beat ME3 I realized why...the indoctrination theory was much more powerful than every single one of us realized. In fact, we were all indoctrinated...until the DLC came out and I was like..."blah" you ruined those interesting conversations about the indoctrination theory and whether anyone who existed in the game was indoctrinated.) I was mind f***** but it left a satisfying feeling like what did I witness...Almost like Bioware intended to indoctrinate us as the players.
But anyway, the reason I said I wished they didn't do that because I, for one, would like to see a connection between the Reapers and the Remnant. The trilogy didn't fill that void within me just yet. I want a even more darker and gruesome story behind the arrival of the Leviathans and Reapers.

The Remnant's technology is very dark and enigmatic. It has to mean they are a lot darker than the Leviathans.

I hope the Remnants have nothing to do with the milky way. The Mass Effect universe needs new exciting technology, and I am hoping the Remnants will provide it. The Remnants seem very similar to Protheans if what I remember from the survey is true. (Plot twist the Remnants are Protheans?
) I hope the mystery of the Remnants disappearance is what drives the story.
Maybe the Remnants left the galaxy because they realised Andromeda does not have much time left, or they were so much more advanced than all the races in this universe that they simply left for another. Whatever the reason I cant wait to find out.
The Reapers are amazing however they were not truly in control of themselves. I think we can do better.
Almost all the aliens Bioware have presented us with as of yet has been 'human'. I think its damn near impossible for us to create something truly alien.

The Remnant will be more giant machines, and then Shepard (God Shepard from Control ending) will lead the Reapers to Andromeda for a Transformers style battle.

I'd bet on the Remnant being Andromeda natives rather than exiles from the Milky Way.
Maybe they are now 'the remnant' because the Reapers were active in Andromeda as well? Having the Reapers annihilating the Remnant at the same time the Milky Way was being invaded might be an interesting way to reference the endings of Mass Effect 3, without having to worry about whether or not everyone in the Milky Way is a cyborg. When Shepard makes the end game decision aboard the Crucible, the Reapers in Andromeda either retreat after the Catalyst is destroyed or retreat on command from the Catalyst or its replacement.
