The good & the bad after 140 hours

I'd like to share my expirience with DA I after my second completed playthrough.I waited six month to buy the game becouse it was just too buggy at release and it was the right decision. Most games are not worth buying on release day anymore. Now that beeing said i went and got the game xbox one version. After downloading a 3.5 gb patch...i could finally fire up, start the game.
I will start with the good things first.
1.The enviroments and visuals are beautiful especially compared to DA O and DA 2 when they were released. Those games looked terribly dated back then. Not Inquisition, everything looks alive, strong colors, lush forests and beautiful mountains. They did a great job with all the areas. Each one is completely different from the next and i love it.High detailed armor and textures.
2.Great soundtrack, very fiting the whole fantasy theme.Journey to Skyhold scene comes to mind.
3.Top voice acting for the most part. The voices fit the characters very well, mostly.
4.The combat is fun for the most part, especially as a mage, rift mage.Control, weaken and zap enemies with lightning makes it very enjoyable. The tactical camera works good enough on console with a pad but i didn't use it very often. It is good to check status effects etc. on your enemies and or to reposition your party. So overall i find the combat to be well done compared to the last DA game.
5.The sliders and options of the character creator is a big improvement from the last two games. You get alot more variations of faces you can create. Many complexions to choose from and two voices for each female, male characters. So big step up in the character creation.
6.Almost forgot the dragons and fighting them. The dragons are very well made and actually feel, look, sound and move like a dragon would if they were real. Those fights have always been a highlight for me but sadly they don't respawn.Skyrims dragon fights were alright but this game really delivers with the ten high dragons.
And now the bad, THE BAD!...Mwwwwuuaaa!
1.The hairstyles especially for female characters are terrible.Where are the long hair, braided hair.Nothing appealing for female chars.Beards are terrible looking aswell. They all look like santa claus beards glued to the faced.I wish they had put more time, effort into the beards...like blackwalls beard. That looks more or less natural and fits his face.Hopefully they make a hair dlc with more long hairstyles.
2.Why do the npc armors look ten times better than what our Inquisitor gets to wear.Dorian, Viv..they all have such great looking armors. Was Bioware too lazy, not enough time.In a rpg loot and armor is a big motivation to keep playing to complete quests for rewards but in this game there is not much appealing gear.
3.The main plot and antagonist are very boring, plain and forgettable. The magister makes his first apperance half way into the game and stays very one dimensional as character and his personality.
I didn't hate or liked him he was just there and i never cared.Hopefully the promised story heavy dlc is going to be better.
4.Terrible hitboxes and weird focus system.Sometimes it is just aweful to see your character hit the enemy but no damage is dealt becouse of the hitboxes and, or character blocking the path.
The focus system has no place or gameplay impact. It takes too long to gather focus with some classes and it does mediocre damage.I found myself rarely using it if at all.And what has haste focus skill to do with necromancy? Each skill tree should have it's own focus skill...for example fire tree with firestorm etc. and not just the specializations. So in the end the focus system feels more like a afterthought than interesting, viable gameplay mechanic.
5.The sidequests and fetchquests.I can't think of a interesting or fun sidequest, side activity. It's nothing worth my time.Collectables like in Assassins Creed to fill up time, stretch the game artificially.A pretty bad, lazy design choice.
6.The power points and impact of the Inquisition as a organisation never impacts the gameplay or story other than unlocking new areas and quests. The system, idea has lots of unused potentional.Maybe Bioware didn't have enough time or they were just lazy.Maybe both but the result is a system that is slowing down your progress for no good reason.Hopefully there will be something done with it in a dlc.
In the end Dragon age inquisition is a decent game with lots of room for improvement.I enjoyed my time with it but Bioware needs to listen and improve it.There is still time to make things right.
PS: Give me the option to wear my armor in Skyhold i hate that leather outfit.Cheers
Thanks for reading and tell me about your expirience with the game.
Edit:If i had to rate the game i would give it 7.5 or 8.

Just to respond to the negatives:
1. The hairstyles do need improvement for sure.
2. The armors do need more variety, but I think some of the inquisitor looks are amazing.
3. I disagree as I feel like the main plot was vastly superior in this game then DA2 and most non-BioWare RPG's.
4. I never had a problem with moves missing, other then the occasion where my well meaning companions knock an enemy out of the area of affect.
5. The side quests are a too numerous and some of them are really tedious and boring (so I agree with you basically).
6. Yep, every one of my characters have a huge pool of power points that they have no real use for, but I never felt like the system slowed me down. In order to get high enough leveled for the quests I always had more then enough points to do whatever I needed. So in a way I think the power points at least does keep people from going into quests embarrassingly under-leveled at the start of the game.
Personally I adore DA:I and think despite it's flaws it's probably my favorite game ever. There are many things it does that no other game series has really tried to do, and that alone carries a lot of weight for me. Honestly I really really enjoy playing the game, and wouldn't change much even if I could for fear of somehow messing up the magic contained within. ![]()

I meant the fetch quests rift closing is artificially slowing, strechting the game and progress. It does not hold you back i agree but it has no gameplay value and after the 15th rift or so it get a little boring. But they could really do something with the excess power points acumulated by players.Put it to use for wartable missions or special quests.

Huh? Tempest's Thousand Cuts kills high dragons in seconds.

If you can't think of any interesting side-quests, such as the dwarven tomb or the chateau or Noble Deeds, Noble Heart or any of the companion/advisor content (just to name a few), then you're not thinking nearly hard enough.

Sry but i don't see how the "Tomb of Fairel" is a interesting quest...especially story wise. You get a few history fragments and five puzzles to solve with some nice items as a reward. But i didn't feel like completing the quest becouse i was eager to see what happens next "in the story".I completed it to get the items.I think the presentation of the side quests is at fault too.In other Bioware games even sidequests had dialog with cutscenes etc.But if you found the sidequests interesting that is your personal expirience, opinion.

Sure but besides that do you use it on trash mobs very often?...I almost forgot about focus abilities. Also it takes away one slot that i can use for other, better skills...but that is how i see it.

Mediocre pretty game with uninteresting side-quests.
Only memorable moments to me being the assault on Adamant Fortress or anything related to the Grey Wardens.

80% of the game was bad. The storyline was pretty terrible for Bioware standards.
I feel the same way story wise. Not at the old Bioware standards but i wouldnt say 80% of the was bad.For me it is a very mixed bag.If it had a better story and more interesting antagonist like saren in mass effect i would be fine with it.

Fair enough, but yes, I believe reducing all, or even most, of Inquisition's side content to boring or fetchy side-quests is flatly incorrect.

1. Honestly, I don't care about the hair problem other people seem to have.
2. You can blame that on Bioware wanting companions to have iconic looks. As far a armor goes in general, I liked most of the top tier armors.
3. I liked Corypheus, but I agree he needed more screentime.
4. Can't comment on hitboxes, but I learned over the course of my gaming years to save the large attacks for bosses. That includes Focus skills.
5. I can think of plenty of sidequests that interested me in the game, even in the Hinterlands. Of course what I find interesting is subjective, but the game has more sidequest variety than the collectibles and fetch quests most people like to complain about.
6. I agree with you here, Power is accumulated without a need for it eventually.
My overall opinion of Inquisition is it's better than ][ but only slightly worse than Origins.

Personally i find some of the medium armor to be the best looking especially the prowler armor and dalish scout armor.
The magister has charms i agree but he is not on the level of saren from ME.
What i mean with the hitboxes...my second playthrough is a drwarf two handed warrior. And when i attack (basic attacks), some of my hits wouldn't deal any damage despite hiting the mob several times right on it's head..and sometimes my companions would block the way even if they are a meter or so away.It does only happen in close combat.Bad, weird hitboxes.

Focus abilities are not intended for trash mobs. I use them all the time against elites and bosses. You can regenerate focus quite quickly on Frostback Basin.

I think if the focus system was only intended for elite mobs, bosses why does it do such pityful damage, firestorm for example.I don't know about rogue class but mage and warrior focus skills do only mediocre damage for the effort and time they consume to power them up.I think it is still a flawed system.

Uh, I can one-shot dragons on hard and almost one-shot dragons on nightmare with Firestorm. Its all in how well you are geared. Just using what ever gear you find is not the way to go. You really need to make crafted gear with the stat/ability enhancers your character needs.

The hitboxes are my personal pet peeve.
I suspect that they are human sized, irrespective of the size of the creature they belong to. This is why dragonlings have three hitpoint bars, or dragons have one for each leg and the head. Each hitpoint bar is actually a separate hitbox, and because each hitbox is human sized, those creatures need several of them. Try attacking a great bear in melee from the front... you can't hit it, because the model gets in the way and the hitbox is somewhere in the middle of the bear's body. It's especially obvious with melee rogues... they will "slide" to the side of the bear if you keep attacking, because they're trying to reach the hitbox and can get there only from the flanks. Ranged characters have no issues because projectiles got right through the model and reach the hitbox, but in melee the enemy's model can block yours from getting close enough to reach the hitbox.
That's why you sometimes don't do any damage. Imagine a human sized target right beneath a creature's hitpoint bar, and you'll have a much easier time. Or use melee attacks that cause AOE damage... they are a somewhat viable crutch.

Exactly, that is pretty much the problem i get sometimes.Pretty lazy from Bioware but it is nothing game breaking, annoying yes.

only dragon age game I never bothered to complete, the side quests kill the fun and the fact there's no life to the environments adds to the boredom of trying to trudge through it
also I have problems with the mage character in cut scenes, some noble flinging fireballs at me why not retaliate, I cant use magic in cut scenes which breaks the immersion, he goes for the sword during the fight with cory, even the dualist at bastians estate, my inquisitor couldn't do anything, just stood there full retard until viv steps in
