That is the build! Lots of Fade Cloak and Fade Step, high-risk high-reward play,

The Necro used to be a puzzle for me, and overall one of the least interesting characters. But after I came across this now super old but awesome video by Crucible, I fell in love right away. She has been my favorite character by far since then.

Warning extremely powerful player talking here

Normally skilled people do not take Fade Step on a hard difficulty

Fade Cloak has merits though

Eh, he was already using that build when I played my first perilous ever in March. It looked like a lot of fun, even back before having all the stats :)

I used to play with Crucible a while back, when he started using that build. He had a grand total of 11 constitution, and something like 40 cunning. He had no problem surviving, and he put out a ton of damage.

one of my favorite, but i'm kind of staying alive first then dealing damage later, auto staff my way to level 14 to get all skills.

winter grasp -> fade cloak (or fade step to your frozen target then walking bomb if mobs near by).

Yet, for the Necro Fade Step is making it 10x easier to stay alive and kicking than Fade Cloak. With the right gear and stats, Fade Step can deal 3K+ to every enemy on your way and get you out of tight spots.

Try to Fade Cloak into 5 Rage demons on Nightmare. It's awesome, you deal loads of damage, but then you're left vulnerable into the middle of 5 Rage demons when Fade Cloak ends because it didn't kill them.

Now try the same thing with Fade Step. You dealth 5K+ to all those Rage demons AND you're out of their reach in a safe place.

I rest my case...

Yes well it's obvious the player from that video has some moves.

He's also making a lot of use of the walls for cover and relying heavily on aggro control to make proper use of his Walking Bomb and Fade Cloak

This gets out of hand quickly if you get the usual knockdown spam and Fade step offers very little protection from projectiles if you don't immediately get behind cover.

You can also forfeit Gathering Storm and Winter's Stillness for cooldown reductions

I think it'll be a long time before I do 3k damage with Fade Step on Nightmare and when I do I'll be firing Energy Barrage ty very much

What are you going to replace for Energy Barrage?  If you're already bringing fade step and fade cloak (available on all mages) you will need to replace winter's grasp or you will have no abilities exclusive to the necro.  Unless you are just saying you are going to solo NM at some point regardless of the mage used.

At 6:45 in that video it looks like WB took half of the Despair Demon's health.  I assume this was before WB got knocked down a few pegs, but if it did that kind of damage on NM that would be awesome!

Well I think we're talking about an all crit necro

which unfortunately leaves you with limited options

-Flasfire

-Winter's grasp

-Fade Step

-Fade Cloak

-Energy Barrage

If you got the Hakkon staff then invest in crit dmg pretty much all the dot is going to look ridiculous

And yes the exact same options are going to be available to elementalist

You still have Virulence of course but something will have to change for the necro before more people get that tough and she's redundant

That video dates from March, before any balancing change was added (except for the infamous Reaver nerf). It took place in Perilous, so the damage there doesn't translate to NM. The build and playstyle do, though it is a very high risk approach and I find Crucible to be absolutely nuts to run it on Perilous with virtually no Con promote at all. Today it can be done easier with better armor rates than there were in the past.

I've promoted my Necro 92 times. I see her as a pure Walking Bomb platform. It's high AOE damage is the best feature she has to offer. The other three abilities can be anything that supports Walking Bomb best for one's playstyle, from stationary Flashfire/Blizzard/Ice Mine to vanguard FS/FC gameplay. I personally find FS/FC to work wonder on her, adding to survivability and Single target DPS. I am glad to have across Crucible's video when I was grinding the Necro's banner back in the day.

Walking Bomb was nerfed, but such nerf can go unnoticed with loot and stats progression, just like Long Shot nerf. Also, Walking Bomb and Winters Grasp cost much less mana now than they did in the past. The necro is certainly not the easiest mage to master, it takes dedication, loot and stats just like most glass cannons in order to be NM worth (Avvar, Reaver), but she can definitely get there.
I personally have a huge blast running her on NM, probably more than with any other kit.

Looks like the takeaway from this thread is:

1) She has a steep learning curve, but is a capable - and fun - character when in skilled hands, leveled up enough, and with mid to high-level gear.

2) Early leveling can be an issue given her starting setup. She could potentially need a skill tree redesign. (personally, I think Flashfire should have been switched with Horror)

3) Spirit Mark, Blizzard, and Ice Armor need changes/fixes.

4) DoT should crit or stack appropriately (Not sure if only for this character or all characters)

Both, and many skills' usefulness skyrockets. All DoT from different abilities should stack, and all DoT should be able to crit.

Considering that time to kill is a huge factor in survivability, and to nova-ing with walking bomb. If she is to retain the same abilities her dots really need to be upped to even remotely compare with other casters.

The new DoT character is Zither, and he hits for 300%/sec and 150% in AOE, which can quickly rack up to over 750% a second against 4+ targets.  This actually compares well to the Elementalist, who hits for 500% up front, and 200%/second and can crit.

The necromancer on the other hand does well to get 300%/sec against a group of targets after using ALL her mana doing so.

Some skill suggestions

- Walking Bomb;

Damage/Sec upped to 300%, to be on-par with cool beats at least.

- Horror

AOE size doubled.

Keep the animation, but now instant cast from caster OR speed that animation up by about 50%.

Rather than reducing armor, have the upgrade render enemies weakened, make it last after panic breaks.

Up Damage/Sec to 300% OR make panic harder to break OR make the Dot last after the panic breaks

- Spirit Mark

Spirit mark, can only be cast on one enemy, and is essentially removed from your skill-set when you have a pet.

To that end, have the pet take 50% of the casters damage for them, the pet then acts as damage mitigation (a necro problem) and will have spirit mark be useful more often.

All she needs is wb to do more damage what kind of damage specialist didn't deal damage. As for fs fc that's for babies. Horror. Wb. Sm. Fs. Figure out it. The necro is invincible as long as you have a pet. As far as no barrier who cares and she does not need damage mitigation you need constitution or an escape route. Then again I play mine like a warrior.

I don't even really know where to begin. It's pretty much all in the title.  Shes just comparatively bad these days and I feel like she has little to nothing to offer the team on these difficulties.

anything she can do can be done a heck of a lot better by another class. Shes trivial.

I think she needs some help.

Work on your stats and stop posting all day. That all the help she needs <_<

Theres a balance system we should all strive for.  Underpowered? Promote MOAR!!!!11!

lol.

Idk though. Bioware kinda took the fun out of the game last week.   Don't really feel like playing.  I'll probably get it for the PS4, but that isn't really exciting either at this point.  I'm interested in checking out other games.

I'm guilty.  I would rather play forums than play Dragon Age.  I have forced myself to play a few games today though.  You just missed it because your PS3 is a dedicated Netflix player ;)

Also.........

"The squad-based Metal Gear Online multiplayer will now launch at different times for consoles and PC. Multiplayer for the PS4 and Xbox One will launch on October 7, a little more than a month after the game’s September 1 release. PC gamers will have to wait longer, however, as the online component won’t arrive until sometime in January 2016."

Promoted Necromancer once, felt like butter surrounded by knifes. Even more so, since you can't rely on Ice Armor.

I think it's just my personal opinion about the class that I don't like it. Nevertheless having a necro in group annoys the hell out of me. It's such an anti group class that it's not funny anymore. You don't get any kill recognition when the enemy you kill is marked with spirit Mark, resulting in loss of chain and heal on kill. I'm pretty sure Walking Bomb is bugged the same way though not 100% sure. I like Blizzard only Necro's though, nice support.

Is nobody going to mention that it's crap how she has to dismiss her pet in order for a chest to open or for the key to drop?

That is precisely the truth. It is pretty much common sense that you need at least moderate Stats to make the best of several characters on Nightmare, such as the Avvar, Alchemist, Reaver, Hunter, dps-built Virtuoso and others. Obviously the Necro, who is the glass-cannon archetype among the Mages, it could not be any different.

Now now guys. No reason to be mean. Many people simply didn´t find out yet, that Spirit Mark can be toggled off.
