BioWARE already indulged themselves with Krem, a forgettable character with the trans thrown in as a gimmick, and Maevaris. I didn't read the comics, and thought Mae was visually stunning, but not very interesting.

That line is a bit ironic in this case, because it could so easily be turned around to argue that Bioware can indulge themselves again and again (as much as they please, in fact) and say that anyone who disapproves or takes offense can stuff it.
