But that was almost the entirety of Traynor and Cortez' characters.
Can we have our first transgender romance option?

I will say that I agree with the assessment that Dragon Age will probably be the first to do this. I've said a few times that I see a transgendered LI as being a logical extension of the path Bioware's on, but it's really more a logical extension of the path that Dragon Age is on.
I've actually got money riding that Maevaris will be a romance option in Dragon Age 4. As a bonus she'd be the first blonde woman LI as well.

Oh my god, two gay people just happen to be employed in the same place at the same time? Stop the presses! Something nefarious is happening!
To quote my third favorite animated TV program
Cyril: Why do we always have to share a room?
Ray: The sinister gay cabal, Cyril. You have fallen victim to the sinister gay cabal.

I actually kind of hope that Mae won't be an LI. I don't need to see yet another grieving widow. Of course, they could skip that whole part of her backstory, but it just seems like it's too tempting for Bioware. An LI with a dead spouse? They just can't help themselves, right?

But it's game. Someone made a decision to make these characters to have one lesbian and one gay person on the ship. In DAI you have 2 characters for every orientation. It's just wierdly calculated to me.

I disagree. I think the bulk of Traynor's character was the nerd, the lab rat, being thrust out into the field and coping with the hazards of being on a ship that's on the front lines of the most horrific war in history.
It is true that the bulk of Cortez' story arc was centered around the grief of losing his husband, but the core of that is grief, not being gay. The fact that he's gay is incidental to the fact that he lost someone he loved.

I'd hope to behead the character personally.
But that's more them being a Tevinter and Magister then anything else.
Even the good Tevinters are apathetic to their destruction, the sheer indifference to life is offensive to me.

If anything I think that makes it more likely. They do love that particular story.

So you consider Kasumi to be a token straight person? And that she was only added to the game to talk about her sexuality? Because that's what the person was asserting about Steve and Samantha. The question wasn't if they were interested or not. It was whether they were 'token gays'.
Steve is, his entire character is about how his husband died.
Samantha is an example of a character that isnt a token gay.

All it means is that he finds sexy ladies to be sexy. Which makes sense since he's not gay. Finding sexy ladies sexy is in character for a bisexual guy. Now, if he had entered a male strip club and made comments about not finding them sexy, I would agree his bisexuality seems out of character. But since he doesn't, the point stands.
True, although I know a woman who gushes over attractive male characters but considers herself a lesbian. So I just consider Kaidan a gay man who doesn't mind admitting that a hot chick is hot.
You can fix this by "unlocking" kaidan romance but it's still not canon or intended to exist in ME1. And i don't see that whole "tension" between them, actually they behave like frends and nothing more. That way you can find "sexual tension" with any of the characters.
Another proof is that when femshem can't decide between Liara or Kaidan, Kaidan is confused and not like "it's fine, im bi too". You can't deny that Bio Ware just changed their minds with Kaidan, making him inconsistent character.
And yes Traynor and Cortez were token gays becouse "accidentally" they happen to be on Normandy together and their almost whole arc is about them being gay love options.
And i want to say it's my opinion only.
I don't even consider unlocking it a fix as the interactions between MShep and Kaidan are just fine as is. So yeah in all canons, Mshep and Kaidan don't start a relationship until ME3. That doesn't mean Kaidan never had feelings for MShep until ME3. There is a difference. If you wish to not see the tension then you are free to, you don't have to view the characters the same way I do.
Why does Kaidan have to tell FemShep he's bi? That makes no sense at all and why would he have to reveal this in your game to make it relevant for someone else's? The experience you had with Kaidan is just different from mine. There is no FShep for Kaidan to fall for, no confusion over him and Liara et al. as a matter of fact, if you play FShep, Kaidan isn't gay or bi at all. If you wish to see it that way.
So two gay people working on a ship together makes them token gays? I guess my gay MShep was also a token gay.. OMG! With Kaidan onboard that means that four gays were on the Normandy at the same time!
