edit: Funnily, as for "Selkies", I had this cheesy backstory why my Cousland was darked haired. His mom secretly hooked up with a Selkie. :P

My first reaction was " :o Eleanor would never cheat on Bryce!"

And his name was Ronan.

And then this charmed me to pieces. I love significant names.  :P

I've never encountered a head canon that unusual for the Cousland origin. I like it.

Haha.. they had a rough patch once. Then she took a walk on the shore....

Anyways, as for interspecies stuff: The more human things are, the less repulsed. If it reminds me of something monstrous or deformed, I pull away. But I'm not against elves. Or selkie really. These are traditionally beautiful and human/human-like in ways.

The aliens are a bigger problem, actually.

But yeah, there isn't much to say once you open that door. If people in this fanbase want to get it on with some kind of chitinous creature, then a transgendered is nothing.

Personality goes long way :)

Maybe not for you.

I can admire someone sticking only with "personality", like say... with a badly wounded war vet.

Not in a game.

It works even better in fiction in my opinion. Personality can overrun looks quite lot.

As far as ME goes, I wouldn't know. All of the women are attractive. Maybe even Tali, if you count that stock image goofup. And all cool in their own way.

Garrus probaply is good example.

Works with "normal" looking humans as well though. Like Kaidan in my case, though only in ME1.

I haven't played Femshep. If they had a Garrus-like choice for males, I would never consider it.

They're free to test the waters with male players if they want. I''m not stopping them. Maybe some will go for it.

I guess it depends on person. I found LI's for male Shep quite boring myself, which is why I mostly have fem!Sheps. Female Turian LI or sth similar would likely change that to me.

Now I wonder if you're the shallow one. Not me. ;) They were all so different. And fit so many different kinds of Sheps. I'm surprised you could find them all boring.

I don't remember calling you shallow though ^^; And I'm going mostly by personality here. I guess Steve would have been fine, but waiting for three games is too much for me. I'd have liked Kasumi as well, quite lot actually, but sadly she's not option.

No, I'm calling myself that. And yet, now I feel like the one promoting the idea of "personality". They're all pretty complicated women, and different..

But if you don't like that them, that's cool. I just always thought straight male players lucked out with that series. There was a lot of options.

I agree that the are different and have different personalities. I just don't find them attractive for different reasons.

I guess Tali would be closest from the bunch.

How do you know she doesn't make an attempt?  Does she have to cut off her man parts even if she looks like a woman every where else just to be considered a woman?

Yes.

As a straight guy I might consider dating a post-op trans woman (and only because I know from first-hand experience that they can do a damn good job these days with sex-change operations). But pre-op "women" are automatically discarded. Why would I want to date a "woman" who is physically a man? I'm not gay.

Then again my gay best friend wouldn't date a pre-op trans "woman" either, so I suppose these "women" are stuck between a rock and a hard place. Not many people want to date with them.

I don't feel sorry for them though, they could just get the operation and be done with it. It's (almost) fully subsidized in almost every western country so money shouldn't be a concern here unless you live in a 3rd world country.

The very fact that some supposed transgender people don't want to transition speaks volumes to me though. If you're really trans then wouldn't you want to do everything in your power to actually be the gender you feel you're supposed to be?

Well, there's a lot of confusion in the first place. It's not like people just know themselves fully right away.

Even if those who want the transition may regret it. There's a high rate of attempted suicides later (up to 40% of patients apparently).

People think regretting a tattoo is bad.

And there is an even higher rate of attempted suicides for pre-op trans people.

A lot of people tend to forget that transgenderism is a mental illness which results in them feeling like they're born in the wrong body in the best-case scenario and in the worst-case scenario it results in severe depression, social anxiety, mental instability and schizophrenia. Getting a sex change operation might fix a lot for most transgender people, but certainly not all.

Transgenderism is a serious issue and that's why I get annoyed when people take that label and apply it to their perverse fetishes. People who get a kick out of pretending to be the opposite gender or people who seek attention by pretending to be different with nonsense made-up labels like "genderqueer" and "pangender". They are not only annoying, they're a disgrace to the real transgender people who are seriously suffering.

Nope.

I'm genderqueer.  I'm not in some silly competition with transgendered people to see "who has it harder."

I don't carve-up my lady bits because I have absolutely no desire to, and it would serve absolutely no point.  Believe it or not, you can have alternative views of the gender "binary" without it being a "mental illness."

Believe it or not but transgenderism is a mental illness by any medical or legal definition.

You aren't transgender though by the sounds of it. You're probably just a regular woman who's slightly more masculine than most other women and therefor you feel the need to label yourself "genderqueer" because everyone wants to be a special snowflake these days.

No, I label myself "genderqueer" because it's easier to find other people who share my views and with whom I can relate too.

And I'm not particularly "masculine" or "feminine."

And no, you can be skeptical of the gender "binary" without having a mental illness.

Its not as simple as that, as you no doubt seen in your research in the matter, the sex-change operations may end up in a perfect looking vagina for a transwoman, but it won`t be fully funtional. They won`t get naturally wet, and the almont of pleasure they feel in sex is greatly diminished. See the problem? And it`s even worse for transguys. So a transition like that it`s not a decission to be taken lightly. And certanly It can`t be done to please someone else.

Sorry for the typhos, I`m on my college`s computer and it`s not configured correctly.
