Another thing to consider is that it will probably be the 26th and a half century. The medical field, due to cryo suspension, will be nearly 23rd century plus whatever advancements they got from the Prothean archives. This brings into question, does this statement even have to be made?

I'm indifferent to this idea, even as a transgender person myself. Like others said, it shouldn't be the only thing about the character that makes them interesting. Having transgender characters would be fine, but I don't have much confidence in bioware to not fail at a romance with such a character. Besides, it is the future and maybe these things are just commonplace and don't mean much to the people of mass effect.

The singleplayer and multiplayer are worked on by two different teams with two separate budgets. SP's development wouldn't affect MP's development.

You don't need to represent every single demographic just for the sake of it.

If such a character was able to be implemented as a fully realised person with faults and flaws and their own characteristics I could maybe get behind the idea but at this moment in time I can only really see such a character being a one-note tickbox on a checklist rather than a fleshed out person.

Like Krem in Inquisition. That was a character that was handled REALLY well as a transgendered person.

I'm opposed to the idea of them adding characters for the purpose of filling a minority niche. That's the opposite of art. Are they supposed to give us a genderfluid romance as well? What about a gender-neutral romance? What about a non-sexual romance? If they start adding characters just to fill these sorts of niches there will be no to the demands for more and more "inclusivity" at the expense of creativity and artistic expression.

What about a non-sexual romance?

Haven't they done that already? There are a few romances now where any sexual activity is optional or left ambiguous. And then there is Sebastian's chaste romance. And personally I'm glad that they haven't made sex a mandatory part of the romances.

Or do you mean something else by non-sexual?

Nah, we don't even have so-called "plus size" romances.

We haven't made it to transsexuals yet. Although somehow gays cut in line ahead of the non-skinnies.

I support this. However, I think it should be handled differently to Krem in DAI.

To clarify, because this is a sensitive subject and often sets people from both sides of the coin off, so I don't want to say anything that may offend.

First off; as a kid I had some gender issues of my own. I have posted this a couple of times so I'm sorry if people don't wanna hear it again, but I always felt I should have been a boy.

In the present, I remain female and I'm happy being one. When I left school I realized I could dress and act in however manner I wanted, it didn't matter what junk I had between my legs. I am a tomboyish female interested in a lot of stuff that is stereotypically "boyish".

One thing that stands out in my childhood, in struggling with my gender issues, was this constant need for people to place you in groups or stereotypes. E.g I would express an interest in say, Marvel superheroes and want to buy the action figures and play with those, rather than Barbie dolls which I found utterly boring. If it came up in conversation I would have people say, "Eww but you're a girl! You can't be into that. You should play with dolls or Baby borns instead."

This pissed me off to no end. Now fast-forward to this day and age, and the concept is much more acceptable. That being, not having to fit stereotypes, label and even the transition from mtf or ftm itself.

What irks me however, is this new labeling mentality -- from both sides of the group. Transgenders and those who oppose or do not accept the idea. The point I'm putting across here is, this sudden need to have the name 'transgender' as a group separate from those who are 'cis'. It creates an us vs them mentality and makes matters far worse, it doesn't help the goal of 'understanding and acceptance' one bit.

Personally I find the term 'cis' offensive. Especially when it is coupled with 'white'. To me this is no different to racism and discrimination, just on a reverse angle. It's no better.

This is how I view the concept of transgenderism -- you are born in one gender, but feel you belong to the other. Eventually, you will make the transition and become the opposite gender of what you were born as. This then makes you either male or female, just like anybody else. As is your right. It's really that simple.

Having said that, the issue I had with Krem -- has nothing at all whatsoever to do with him being a transgender character, but rather how he was implemented.

With 8 romance options available in DAI, I couldn't see why he couldn't have been a romance option, better yet; a companion to take out onto the field, with his own personal quest and dialogue options.

Apart from that brief cinematic scene involving the chargers, you don't get to see a lot of him and the conversation was very limited. I would have liked to have gotten to know him as a person, find out a little back story and deal with his personal quest. Sure, let the audience know that he is a transgender, but make him more than that; make him a person, like anybody else, with his own issues and baggage, and his own quirks and positives.

Obviously, the game has been out for quite a while now and I don't expect any changes. I accept it how it is, I just think there is room for improvement.

So basically, I am all for a transgender character, and romance option, but for goodness sake flesh the character out more and give them more of a personality and a backstory. Acknowledge that he or she is a transgender but don't make it just about that. :)

Don't really care either way as long as Bioware don't try to lecture players about gender identity, identity politics or any of that.

MP is not even in alpha yet.

They said, that they will finish SP first.

If there is time and budget left, they will set up the MP-Team and budget.

To the OP:

I have read rumours that one of the new species on Andromeda will be hermaphrodite.

A pity that you aren't, for if you would, i could tell you to go and what you can do yourself without sounding insulting :)
