Currently. As multiple people have pointed out, we are talking about the future here.
Sure, but we don't know the circumstances our explorers are in. They may have all been born in the Andromeda galaxy with very limited resources. Futuristic gender-swapping may not be feasible in the setting and if our expedition is in dire straits it wouldn't make much sense for a trans character to be focusing on their gender identity and trying to transition.
And at the end of the day I just don't want the cast to be determined via checklist of minorities, be they racial or gender minorities. It's just a really stupid, cynical way to produce games that also takes art and creativity out of the equation.

It was just a damn game back then; no one worried about real life implications or standards or anything of that nature.
There was no catering to demographics or positions of political controversy.
...it was a heck of a lot simpler back then.

@Former_Fiend: That's not what I said at all. You're inventing that for whatever purposes you need.
You also invented my "implication" that I was saying a transgendered person is not welcome in the game. I believe in said I was fine with it - just that I didn't care about it's inclusion or exclusion.
I DID say that any personal story so selfish as to be solely about the NPC's personal issues - I believe would be totally detrimental to a story of survival. Yes, you can tell a story about "humanity" - I'm totally down for that... but that requires more than just some throw away quest you finish in an hour and then everything is fine.
I hope the NPCs are coming to me with personal quests that are important to their agenda in helping everyone survive in a specific fashion. Not more family issues - personal issues - or whatever.
So IF the story is about survival - and IF there is a transgendered character... their super deep inner struggle isn't an interest to me. We're fighting for the species folks... not your personal little drama. ((Again, I admit this is Bioware - and they pretty much specialize is the self-aggrandizing story of the player)).
And they wouldn't have to tell me to dig - if the story is about survival - I would be soul searching in whatever free time I had... not pouring my life onto everyone around me.

Eh?
Too wistful to snort after that.
It was a different time; **** changed and to me the change is decidedly negative.

Personally I don't want them to include any type of character out of political obligation. My actual argument is one of "why not, if they want to". If they don't want to, if it's a story they aren't interested in telling yet, then sure, fine leave it out for now. Though as pointed out several times in this thread, trans-representation does appear to be part of the path Bioware's on, and that isn't necessarily a checklist.
And while I personally think that limitations breed creativity, there is something to be said for having a wide range of tools available to you. Without being obligated, being able to include people of multiple different races that haven't been featured heavily in games, and being able to include trans individuals, gives them a wider range of tools with which to tell stories than only what has been featured.
I don't want them to work off a checklist, but I also don't want them to exclude people out of fear of the perception of working off a checklist, either.

Your original post said, paraphrased, that you were against the inclusion of a trans LI because that distracted from the concept of survival. I'm not inventing that.
Given that I can't think of any inherent reason why a trans character would distract from that anymore than any other character would, and that you dismissed trans identity as "playing dress up", I don't think I'm inventing implications, either. Maybe I'm misreading your intentions- that's fair that happens a lot - but I'm not pulling anything out of thin air, either.
Now if there's any reason why a trans character is incapable of having a personal quest that actually furthers the agenda of survival in this frontier, I'd be happy to hear it, because I can't think of one.

I feel vaguely insulted every time that Cisgender label is attached to things...
People and their labels these days *snorts*
I feel like a new label comes out every week. Most of them are for obscure sexualities that I'm pretty sure don't exist outside of Tumblr.
I loathe the term 'Cisgender' because every time I see Cis, my mind reads it as Cyst. Grim. If we must label things, at least make it sound less like a growth.
As for the subject at hand.
No.
Please, No.
Don't get me wrong, I'd happily have a transgender LI. But not in ME:A. I just don't feel like the ME fanbase is one that would respond overwhelmingly well to it. I remember all the uproar when Kaidan started hitting on their manly man Shepards. I don't think I could cope with more rage over what parts a companion used to have and moderators having to swoop in and delete posts from people who misgender the character because it doesn't fit in with their beliefs.
*sigh*
I think I just want to shoot things in space. That'll do.

How many alts is this? 14? 15? I assume we can look forward to another, shortly. Along with more complaints about how unfair it is that you keep getting banned, I'm sure.
who is that? weird guy that keeps getting banned? how do you know it is him? ![]()
would we then need to have a polyamorous option too? pansexual? sapiosexual? asexual?

@Former_Fiend: There is no reason a character, regardless of whether they are trans or not, can have a quest that furthers the goal of survival.
The theme of this thread however might suggest that being trans is what is important about this character. And yes, I will assert... if being trans is what is important about the character - then it will only serve to get in the way of the story (for me).
Being a homosexual - I also disliked Dorian immensely as I felt his story was about being gay while the world is being crushed under the foot of Corypheus (who turned out to be a weakling, but we didn't know that at the start). Well - I also found his personality grating.
If this was a story about exploring transexuality - my tune would be quite different (even if I decided not to play it for the same reason I don't play Geralt)

Exafrikinactly 1st Character 2nd Personality 3rd Gender 4th Sexuality.
The character being trans should be as emportant as there hair colour.
Look at the recent Supergirl pilot. her gender was mentioned like 70 times in the first 10 minuits.then was made her only defineing quality for the rest of the episode.
that is not how you do it.
Whith Krem his peeing habits were only mentioned off hand and wasnt made a big deal. Serah's spelunking habbits wen't a big deal.

Yup, half the forum would complain. Whilst a trans LI would instantly become the other half's favourite character.
Right, because the BSN is nothing if not easily divisible into two neatly separated and like minded halves.

Easy. One side is correct and completely infallible and the other isn't.
