This topic was discussed ad nauseam in DA.  But, it needs to be addressed here as well.

Repeated idle animations while standing and talking makes the game feel amateurish. More so, when the animation does NOT match the tone of the conversation. I'd much rather have 95 instead of 100 planets to explore if the time and resources saved could go into more realistic  conversational animations.

We have already touched, elsewhere, walking/running hip swinging animations..,.just look at how female athletes run in soccer. Just take the time to do it right once and for all.   You can then re-use these "proper animations" in a future game. I won't say no to facial animations either, especially in emotional scenes.

But- I like the shrug, hand gestures, hands up a little forwards, and other quality animations!

(Deus Ex: HR's animations were a little worse than Bioware's IMO, with the constant 'but it was aliens' gesture being used.)

I'd imagine this has more to do with memory limitations than resources.

Maybe DA:I's cross gen release limited the number of animations BioWare was willing to put in the game.

The amount of animation re-use in DA:I was abhorrent and I literally saw a mage doing Mordins "talk/walk/pace" in Skyholds courtyard. They reused the "unarmed crouch" animation for Lelianas praying. I mean I understand its a lot of work but reusing animations from ME1? Atleast slightly modify the animations so they don't look so rigid and familiar.

Although admittedly I am no animator. Maybe I am asking too much. :(

No. It's not a memory limitation at all.

It's either a foolish cost cutting move or the Creative Director saying we have "good enough" animation library.  Think of the DAI loot animations. It the same one regardless of wether you pick elf root found on the ground or  iron found on the side of a large rock. It is much better to have the animation done once or twice for every resource, then auto-loot for the rest of the game.

LOL!

Yes, that too.  The problem, there, was twofold.

One, Bio failed to allow for a dynamic sleeve placed over the wireframe of the character... sleeve = armour = clothing. Therefore, once the animators did the scene with the PJs,... your'e stuck with whatever was decided the Quizzie was wearing... here it's PJs.. In other words, the animation and the Quizzies sartorial choice is cemented forever and ever.

Two. BIo decided to be "smart" and made the decision to re-use the sitting animations for both genders.... a foolish move, but from Bio's POV, who cares?
